The first case recorded in 1871 in JAPAN.
There was a large outbreak , involving >6000
cases.
Subsequent outbreak- 1927,1934,1935.
In KOREAN PENINSULA – first case recorded
in 1933.
On CHINESE MAINLAND first in – 1940.
In PHILIPPINES, first case in early 1950s.
5. JE reached PAKISTAN. – 1983.
In RUSSIA, first reported – 1986-1990.
6. Transmission Of JE virus
Transmitted by rice field breeding
mosquitoes, mainly Culex tritaeniorhychus
mosquitoes infected by feeding on
infected pigs and wild birds (amplifying
hosts)
Human as dead end hosts
No person-person or animal-person
transmission

Prevention of Mosquito Bites
•Avoid going to rural area during dusk and dawn
when the mosquitoes are most active
•Wear light-colored, long-sleeved clothing and
trousers
•Apply DEET-containing mosquito-repellents
over exposed parts of the body and clothes
every 4 to 6 hours
•For DEET products used by children, its
concentration should be less than 10%

• Place of accommodation should
have air-conditioners or mosquito
nets; or
• hang mosquito screens around your
bed, use insecticides or coil incenses
to repel mosquitoes
