2. INTRODCTION
• At first when the electricity is
produced they are transferred
into multiple levels of stations
so that the power can be
brought down to the level
where the power can be
supplied for domestic purpose.
Because at the time when
electricity is produced it will
be step up to 440kv which is
impossible to be used for
domestic purposes.
3. OVERVIEW OFSHARAVATHI
RECEIVING STATION
• Sharavathi receiving station is one of the station
in the above conversion process where the power
is received in the capacity of 220kv from guthuur
and further supplied to next station at 66kv
4.
5. 220KV RECEIVING STATION EQUIPMENT’S
• Control room
• Battery room/auxiliary DC supply
• AC/DC distribution room
• Yard
7. AC/DC DISTRIBUTION ROOM
AC Distribution room SRS DC Distribution room SRS
To provide ac power to auxiliaries,
station lighting system etc., located
inside switchgear building.
To meet energy requirement of tripping
and closing of breakers independently
and to meet annunciation and lighting
and indication requirement as well as
protective relays.
8. YARD
AT 220KV SIDE
There are five incoming lines (220kV) which are connected to the buses Aand B
namely Guttur1, Guttur2, Guttur 3, Honnalli, Shivamoga.
Gutturals 1, 2, 3 lines are always incoming, where as Honnalli is outgoing Line
and shivamogais sometimes outgoing and incoming line.
All five lines are bidirectional and overhead lines
AT 66KV SIDE
Eight outgoing lines of 66Kv connected to the buses A and B namely; Sokke,
Davanagere,Avaragere, Chitrudurga-2, Industrial, Yaragunta, Kukkuwada and
Harihara-Hospete.
There are Two 20MVA transformers (make; NGEF and BHEL.) circuit breaker
are both SF6and air operated (simens, ABB).

11. LIGHTNING ARRESTERS
CAPACITOR VOLTAGE
TRANSFORMER (CVT)
Lightening arrestors are the
instruments that are used in the
incoming feeders so that to
prevent the high voltage entering
the main station
A capacitor voltage transformer
(CVT) is a transformer used in
power systems to step-down
extra high voltage signals and
provide low voltage signals
either for measurement or to
operate a protective relay.
12. WAVE TRAP
ISOLATOR
(Group operating switch GOS)
Wave trap is an instrument using for
trapping of the wave. The function of
this wave trap is that it traps the
unwanted waves.
• Isolators are the no load switches
and used to isolate the equipment.
• The line isolators are used to isolate
the high voltage from flow through
the line into the bus.
13. SF6 CIRCUIT BREAKER CURRENT TRANSFORMERS (CT)
Sulphur hexafluoride (SF-6) gas is
used as the arc quenching medium.
The function of CT is as same as
CVT
14. POTENTIAL TRANSFORMER BUS-BAR
Potential transformers are
connected in lines to supply
measuring instruments and
protective relays.
When number of lines operating
at the same voltage levels needs
to be connected electrically, bus-
bars are used.
15. TRANSFORMER OVER CURRENT RELAY
Transformer refers to the static
electromagnetic setting which can
transfer power from one circuit to
another one.
In an over current relay or o/c
relay the actuating quantity is
only current. There is only one
current operated element in the
relay, no voltage coil etc. are
required to construct this
protective relay.
16. BUCHHOLZ RELAY 66KV CAPACITOR BANK
Buchholz relay in transformer is an oil
container housed the connecting pipe
from main tank to conservator tank.
For compensating reactive power of
lagging power factor. To improve power
factor. Switched in during heavy loads,
switched off during low loads.
17. SCADAANTEENA (SRS)
SCADA in SRS
SCADA (SUPERVISORY CONTROLAND DATA
ACQUISITION)
The system has a number of advantages, including real-time data acquisition,
facilitated by satellite communication, and the ability to monitor and control
the entire distribution network and integrate customer billing systems.
18. HOTLINEMAINTAINENCE
In electrical engineering, live-line working, also known as hotline maintenance,
is the maintenance of electrical equipment, often operating at high voltage,
while the equipment is energised. Although this is more hazardous for
personnel than working on electrical equipment with the power off, live-line
maintenance techniques are used in the electric power distribution industry to
avoid the disruption and high economic costs of having to turn off power to
customers to perform essential periodic maintenance on transmission lines and
other equipment.
19. CONCLUSION
• Establishing substations near the load center makes it possible
to supply quality and reliable power by the utilities competitive
prices by minimizing losses in transmission and distribution.
• Proper design of substation and by the use of efficient
equipment provides a high level of service continuity and
flexibility of operation reducing the cost of operation and
maintenance.
• Planned maintenance schedule keeps the substation
equipment’s in proper condition to provide efficient operation
with reduced down time.
• Selection of site plays a very important role in construction of
substation
