The verbal code
‘once in, never out’
creates an enigma,
suggesting that
something negative is
going to have, perhaps a
death, hence the name of
the soap ‘Hanging Hill
Lane’ . Death is a rather
‘repeated’ (Steve Neale-
1980) theme within soap
operas.
The poster uses synergy to allow the viewers to talk
about the soap opera before the new episodes are even
release, thus generating ‘hype’ for the soap opera and
enticing people to ‘tune in’ and view it.
