4. EVE TEASING- (

Eve teasing is normally meant as teasing a girl
or women refers to, Public sexual harassment or
molestation of women by men, when it turns to
serious issue. Eve teasing is very common word
in India, Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

5. Legal redress
The problem first received public and media attention
in the 1960s.In the following decades, more and more
women started going to college and working
independently, meaning that they were often no longer
accompanied by a male escort as had been the norm in
traditional society
Indian law doesn't use the term 'Eve Teasing', victims
earlier usually seek recourse through Section 298 (A)
and (B) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which
sentences a man found guilty of making a girl or
woman the target of obscene gestures, remarks, songs
or recitation to a maximum jail sentence of three
months.

6. Section 292 of the IPC clearly spells out that
showing pornographic or obscene (ASHLIL) pictures,
books or papers to a woman or girl results in a fine
of Rs.2000 with two years imprisonment for first
offenders. In the case of a repeated offence, the
offender may have a fine of Rs.5000 with five years
imprisonment imposed.

very close friend. He made some
very good points and we ended up
categorising eve teasers, or sexual
harassers in two broad categories.

8. FIRST CATEGORY
“SEXUALLY FRUSTRATED.”
(CAUSES)- They will pass comments on you as
you walk past, sing songs, drive past with loud
music, grab your breasts as they zoom past, or
push themselves onto you in a crowded bus.
(REASONS)-They may either have fantasies, are
sexually unhappy with their spouses or they
just derive satisfaction when women react to
their acts.

10. SECOND CATEGORY(more dangerous)
“POWER SEEKERS”
(REASONS)-They harass primarily not because of sexual
urges but simply because they are capable of doing so.
(CAUSES)-This category of harassers will be defiant if spoken
against, will easily succumb to rage, will take every remark
on their ego and can come back for revenge. Sexual
harassment can be followed by physical assault, acid attacks,
rapes or murders. They will have powerful connections and
will flaunt them on every available chance.
(ACTION)-It is best to look out for personal safety and act
according to circumstances. Basically, get out of the situation
as fast and as smoothly as possible!!

If you are attacked with no warning, fighting back
needs to happen immediately. If the attacker tries to
take you to a second location and you can’t talk him
out of it fight back! Never go to a second location! Give
it all you’ve got where you are. Never go to a second
location! Yes I said that twice because it is that
important.

teasing, they are:
• Illiteracy and carelessness
• Psychological problem
• Sexually exaggerated nature
• To have fun and embarrass women

• Personal dislike and individual relations with the
women.

themselves with life fighting skills like martial
arts etc. and men in their families should be
make explicit that they shouldn’t cause such
disturbance to any women which promotes a
better and healthy society.

– “sexual harassmental is being forced to have

• Where it can be happen ?
– It could happen in the public place , in the privacy
of the home ,at the work place and in college /
campus. We will be dealing with each one
separately.

– No. Sexual harassment has nothing to do with your
clothes. Wearing Western/ tight/ short clothes is
not the reason for harassment. Men also harass
women who are „decently‟ dressed. They harass
ALL women, irrespective of their clothing or age.

– People might say that its u, i.e. your cloths, time or
attitude had something to do with it. It‟s not you
but the person who had committed a harmful act.
