Nasional, eksistensinya sangat urgensif dalam rangka mewujudkan pendidikan
Nasional khususnya membentuk manusia yang beriman dan bertakwa kepada Tuhan
Yang Maha Esa. Di dalam UU Nomor 20 Tahun 2003 tentang Sistem Pendidikan
Nasional dijelaskan bahwa tujuan pendidikan nasional adalah untuk berkembangnya
potensi peserta didik agar menjadi manusia yang beriman dan bertakwa kepada Tuhan
Yang Maha Esa berakhlak mulia, sehat, berilmu, cakap, kreatif, mandiri dan menjadi
warga negara yang demokratis, serta bertanggungjawab. Pendidikan Agama Islam
adalah usaha yang lebih khusus ditekankan untuk mengembangkan fitrah keagamaan
(religiusitas) subyek didik agar lebih mampu memahami, menghayati dan
mengamalkan ajaran –ajaran Islam. Pendidikan Agama Islam hendaknya ditanamkan
sejak kecil, sebab pendidikan pada masa kanak–kanak merupakan dasar yang
menentukan untuk pendidikan selanjutnya. Secara umum Pendidikan Agama Islam
bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keimanan, pemahaman, penghayatan dan pengalaman
peserta didik tentang agama Islam, sehingga menjadi manusia muslim yang beriman
dan bertakwa kepada Allah SWT serta berakhlak mulia dalam kehidupan pribadi,
bermasyarakat, berbangsa dan bernegara.

Pengertian Pendidikan
Agama
Pendidikan agama adalah pendidikan yang memberikan pengetahuan dan membentuk
sikap, kepribadian dan keterampilan peserta didik dalam mengamalkan ajaran
agamanya, yang dilaksanakan sekurang-kurangnya melalui mata pelajaran/kuliah pada
semua jalur, jenjang, dan jenis pendidikan.” (Pasal 1/1, PP. 55/2007, tentang Pendidikan
Agama dan Keagamaan).
Fungsi dan Tujuan Pendidikan
Agama
1. Pendidikan agama berfungsi membentuk manusia Indonesia yang beriman dan
bertakwa kepada Tuhan Yang Maha Esa serta berkhlak mulia, dan mampu menjaga
kedamaian dan kerukunan hubungan intern dan antar umat beragama.”
2. Pendidikan bertujuan untuk berkembangnya kemampuan peserta didik dalam
memahami, menghayati, dan mengamalkan nilai-nilai agama yang menyerasikan
penguasaannya dalam ilmu pengetahuan, teknologi dan seni.” (PP. 55/2007, pasal

Sistem pembelajaran agama
”Setiap peserta didik pada setiap satuan pendidikan berhak: mendapatkan pendidikan agama sesuai
dengan agama yang dianutnya dan diajarkan oleh pendidik yang seagama…. “ (UU 20/2003, pasal
12/1).“Pendidik dan/atau guru agama yang seagama dengan peserta didik difasilitasi dan/atau
disediakan oleh Pemerintah dan/atau Pemerintah Daerah sesuai kebutuhan satuan pendidikan…”
(Penjelasan UU 20/2003 pasal 12 (1) a). Pendidikan agama dilaksanakan sesuai Standar Nasional
Pendidikan.
