Rich women dressed in elaborate, stiff clothing decorated with jewels and embroidery. Their hairstyles involved braiding long hair and mounting it atop the head. Byzantines favored silk fabrics and adopted styles from the Middle East, wearing form-fitting clothing that covered the skin fully. Jewelry such as bangles, necklaces, and headpieces were also popular.

2.  When the clothing of the roman went to basic to more fancy and
expensive, so did those of the Byzantine’s.
 They didn’t like to show their skin so clothing was worn tight to the neck.
 Rich Byzantine were quick to adopt the colors, fabrics, and patterns
inspired by the middle east into their costume.
 The favourite material of rich Byzantine was Silk.

3.  The main thing men wore was the tunica,
dalmatic, cloak and boots.
 Almost all men wore some type of leg
covering.
 Trousers were thought of as unmanly.
 Trouser usually had a drawstring waist and
were tight at the ankle.

4.  The basic clothing of Byzantine women
was the tunica and stola.
 Middle class women would wear flowing
clothing so they could work easily.
 Upper class women wore quite stiff,
jewelled and embroidered clothing.
 The shoes were mainly pointed toed
slippers.

5. HAIRSTYLE
Women wore their hair quite
long and tended to braid or pile it
on the top of their head.
They might use pins or a ribbon
to hold their hair in place.
JWELLERY
 Bangles were very popular
during this period.

neck pieces, head pieces
along with rings and
earrings.

6. Hairstyle: Men tended to wear their hairs
short and cut straight across the forehead in
what is today known as Caesar cut.
