How our media product represents particular
social groups.
EVALUATION
This refers to a cultural group within a large culture often having different
beliefs and interests at a variance with those in the large culture.
Some cliché examples of these are;
Goths “Chavs” Jocks Hipsters Alternatives
Indies “Nerds”
Our movie would be more for Goth's, alternatives and indie sub cultures due
to its dark nature and quite different story line however anyone with an
interest in horror movies would enjoy this film.
SUB CULTURES
Our movie would be for those between the ages of 15-30 years old, as it is
aimed at adolescence and young adults due to its nature. Below the age of 15
wouldn’t be suitable for viewing the movie as some of the feature is quite
disturbing and scary for some immature viewers. The dark nature of the film
may scare the viewer. Ages 31-45 the movie might not be scary enough for
these viewers as we decided to go for a mild horror yet still too scary for
children and young teenagers. Over 45 wouldn’t necessarily suit the viewers
either due to the darkness as older aged people stereotypically like dramas or
mysteries.
AGE
Gender refers to the STATE of being male or female typically used to social
and cultural differences rather than biological ones.
With this in mind, the stereotypical female might not enjoy this horror movie
as much as males as our horror contains a lot of action which appeals more to
male genders. Female genders might find the horror movie disturbing or too
scary to watch. Females typically like rom-coms, or dramas with a traditional
uplifting ending. Males seek for action and showing masculinity whether they
could handle the horror movie or not.
GENDER
The class of a group refers to a system of ordering society whereby people are
divided into sets based on perceived social or economical status.
The class systems goes as follows;
Class A – Higher professional and managerial workers.
Class B – Lower managerial and professional workers.
Class C1 and C2 – Intermediate occupations, small employers, and non
professional self employed, lower supervisors and technical.
Class D – Semi-routine occupations and routine occupations.
Class E – long term unemployed.
CLASS
Our movie would probably be viewed more by people included in Class C1
and C2 to Class E. This is because stereotypically, more higher class people
prefer to watch mystery films, educational films and dramas. Many of higher
class people might not even have much time to sit down and enjoy movies,
stereotypically speaking, due to their work load. Those in lower classes are
more likely to sit down and watch movies, and enjoy horror movies as many
horror movies are based on the narrative of the main character being in Class
C1 and C2 to Class E as the villain has a higher class backstory. Thus, those
with higher-class wouldn’t want to be associated with the villain, meaning they
would avoid watching these sorts of movies.
CLASS (CONTINUED)
Ethnicity refers to the fact of state of belonging to a social group that has a
common national or cultural tradition. Some cultural traditions may not be
suitable to watch certain movies due to their nature. An example of this is that
those of English ethnicity may adopt Christianity and therefor will frown
upon blaspheme within a movie, which appears a lot in horror movies with
power control over a devil or God. Our movie is suitable for all due to having
no religious or cultural set backs. This makes the movie more enjoyable for all
ethnic groups.
ETHNICITY
The hero of our narrative is a female archaeologist. This is unconventional
due to usually in horror movies, the strong male saves the damsels in distress.
In this scenario, the typical adventurous woman saves a young damsel in
distress from the grasps of the killer. We decided to use a female as the
viewers wouldn’t be expecting the hero to be a female and will put a plot twist
in the story line.

  • 7. Ethnicity refers to the fact of state of belonging to a social group that has a common national or cultural tradition. Some cultural traditions may not be suitable to watch certain movies due to their nature. An example of this is that those of English ethnicity may adopt Christianity and therefor will frown upon blaspheme within a movie, which appears a lot in horror movies with power control over a devil or God. Our movie is suitable for all due to having no religious or cultural set backs. This makes the movie more enjoyable for all ethnic groups. ETHNICITY
  • 8. The hero of our narrative is a female archaeologist. This is unconventional due to usually in horror movies, the strong male saves the damsels in distress. In this scenario, the typical adventurous woman saves a young damsel in distress from the grasps of the killer. We decided to use a female as the viewers wouldn’t be expecting the hero to be a female and will put a plot twist in the story line. THE HERO
