2. Brief
“You have been commissioned by the Northern Echo to produce a new magazine
or newspaper or product. Your product could be any style or genre but it must be
self financed through sales or advertising. You must also produce your magazine
for a specified audience segment within the 16 to 25 age group.”

3. My idea
My magazine is specifically cricket related
Cricket within the North East, Durham being successful and potentially having a
women's super league team
After my family works in cricket and I have played it all of my life it has led to me
being very passionate about the sport
A massive gap in the market because no cricket magazines that just focus on the
North East

4. Unique Selling Point
Only Cricket magazine in the North East that focuses primarily on the North
Yorkshire South Durham cricket league (NYSD) as there is no other magazine in
the North East that does this. This will allow my magazine to differentiate from
other cricketing magazines.
It can work well in the magazine as it will work in partnership with the section that
appears in the newspaper every Friday which can also give the magazine an extra
edge to it that other magazines don’t

5. Local Cricket
Everyone has to start somewhere.
Still entertaining even though they don’t earn as much as professionals.
Deserves more recognition.
Can help it’s popularity grow and help the league become even better.
By making the local cricket better, regional cricket will improve then eventually the
national team would benefit from this.

6. Target Audience
16-25 year olds
A, B, C1 as it is going to be distributed with the Northern Echo the readers of the
magazine will be the same as the paper is going to be.
52:48 male female split - Cricket is primarily a male sport however it is still played
by females in the region as well and it is a growing market and this magazine is
only going to contribute to this.

Accuracy - misleading and inaccurate information

Discrimination - not allowed to pre judge
Harassment - no intimidation, harassment or pursuit
Clandestine devices and subterfuge - unable to use hidden cameras to take
photos

12. Branding
To give my magazine a specific brand I will:
Use the colours red, white and black
The fonts that I will use throughout my magazine is sans serif
The layout of my magazine will involve of several images and lots of columns
The word “Howzat is something that you hear all of the time in a game of cricket

13. Front Cover
Large image of the model in the middle of the page - only one image
Taglines either side
Masthead in large red writing across the top of the page just above the image
The date of the magazine will be placed just below the masthead
The barcode in the bottom right hand corner

14. Contents Page
The title of contents in the top left hand corner of the page
The page numbers in red writing down one side of the contents page with black
writing next to the page number
On the right hand side there will be an image of the editor and a few notes from
the editor underneath it

All Good Things Come in 4’s
A yellow and blue will be used on this page as this is the colours of the team that
is being talked about in this article - goes away from the red, black and white
synergy that is being used
The top left hand corner of the page will have the title - it will be in blue writing in a
yellow box
The left hand side of the page will be the article and a photograph next to it
Right hand will have a photo on top of the text and text will be below it in 4
different columns

16. DPS 2
One to One with Liam Foster
The top left hand side of the page will be where the title is, the writing will be white
with a red background
Below this will be 3 rhetorical questions that will be answered in the text below
The article will be a Q&A with the questions in bold and the writing in normal text
A red fact file box will be used to describe the interviewee this will have yellow and
white writing
The right hand side of the page there will be a large image of the model, this will
be the only image on the page and it will have a quote placed on it.

17. DPS 3
A week in the life of Bob Carr
The page will be divided up into 7 boxes for each day of the week with 4 boxes on
one side of the page and 3 on the other side
A couple of images will be used on this DPS, these will be action shots from the
week that the DPS is set on

I will have a total expenditure £14,275
Editorial Personnel - £1149
Equipment - £3396
Printing - £9730
However… I will receive £20750 from advertising income
Leaving a profit of £6475
