2. My Brief…
‘‘I have been commissioned by the Northern
Echo to produce a new magazine or newspaper
product. My product could be in any style or
genre but it must be self financed through sales
or advertising. You must also produce your
magazine for a specified audience segment
within the 16 to 25 age group.’’
3. My idea…
The name of my magazine is going to be called
‘LostOtaku’. Otaku means being obsessed with
something in Japanese. In the western culture, Otaku
means being obsessed with Anime and Manga. This
will show people that this is for Anime and Manga fans
therefore making them think that this is a good source
for Anime and Manga news and adverts.
4. To ensure that I am able to meet the brief I have done the
following:
- My target audience is B C1 D1.
- Ensured that the quality is budget strategies.
- “Anime magazine” for 16-25 year olds.
- That there is a gap in the market and is commercially viable.
- That this magazine is self financed through sales and advertising.
How to meet the brief…
6. SECONDARY AUDIENCE
The secondary audience for
my magazine will include
Northern Echo readers like
friends, parents and siblings. I
will have to make sure I don’t
offend anyone with the
contents in my magazine. This
means that I will not be
allowed…
- No taboo
language
- No inappropriate
content
- No nudity
Things to consider…
7. So how will I appeal to them…
The target audience will be teenagers ages 16-24 as this is the
main age of people who watches anime. This would attract
them, as there will be different anime pictures and reviews. Also
there will be pictures of people dressing up as anime and
cosplay ideas, as teenagers sometimes likes to participate in
anime conventions so this will interest them. The unique selling
point is that this anime magazine will consist of all genre. Its
unique selling point would be that the entire magazine would be
about anime, everything that’s happening with anime at this
current time and anything else to do with it, this is unique in the
sense that other magazines that mention anime, merely mention
it and give a vague bit of knowledge of it and attempt to attract
other audiences.
8. The job of the Press Complaints Commission is to stop information
from being published to the public that could be harmful,
discriminating, offensive or damage reputation through magazines,
newspapers etc. It is a body who deals with complaints from
members of the public about these information. There are 16 codes
that must be followed by magazines and newspapers. The PCC look
into these complaints made by individuals who thinks that these rules
are violated.
I have created 5 golden rules I must follow to ensure I do
not break these rules…

Informed consent is very important before publishing information about
someone by questioning or interviewing an individual. To ensure this I
would need to make sure I know that they are fine with me asking questions
about ones personal live etc.
I will gain consent from the land owner to make sure I can access the
property to take photographs etc. This will ensure that trespassing does not
occur.
When talking about sensitive and personal topics with an individual such as
shock, illness and grief I will make sure to be considerate and caring to avoid
upsetting or offend them in anyway.
When I receive the information I will make sure it is confidential and not
leaked out to the public. Information about an individual e.g. name, age and
address will be kept private unless permission is given.
I must make sure that all information about a topic, organisation or an
individual that is published are accurate. I will not exaggerate or be bias
about it to avoid misunderstanding.
10. Not only does Lost Otaku show a form of art but it also
expresses the culture that it comes from. It also lean
towards the social aspects of an anime fan’s lifestyle
including makeup and hobbies. It dives deep into the
thoughts of the target audience, both experienced and
unexperienced with anime, focusing on both their
likings and opinions.
My unique selling point…
11. I briefed my idea which involved discussing the genre, design,
target audience and article ideas and gained this feedback…
Briefing my idea…
“A very unique magazine idea. This could get people very curious as it
is not mainstream.”
“Sounds interesting but research might be difficult as this is an very
untouched area”
“The genre is unique and the article ideas are interesting for people
who has not experienced this topic”

- Looks childish
17. Mock Up 2…
The Goods
- Clear layout

- Nice use of step by step
instructional pictures
- Good clear pictures
The Bads
- The title looks quite plain except
for the ‘Anime’ bit
- Text looks uneven on the page

• Interesting to
understand what it
means

Overall Product…
21. Unique Selling Point
There will be a gap in the market for it as there is a
growing interest in anime, and specifically anime,
therefore the other competition which mention anime
news within them won’t be of much interest to these
anime watchers, because my magazine will include a
lot more in-depth detail and up to date knowledge of
anime. So my magazine will create a gap in the
market by focusing on a specific audience rather than
multiple. I will be competing against Neo and MyM
magazines.
