MAN NEEDS TO BE GUIDED
• Everyone of us has certain basic questions within
ourselves:
“Why have we been created?”
“What is the purpose of my being here in this
world?”
“Why do people die?”
“Does it end here?”
“ Where will we go to after death?” ... Etc.

• Some may ignore these questions, yet they are still
in us and we will have to seek the Truth regarding
this matter – sooner or later.
• Man’s limited knowledge of Reality, would not be
able to fathomed this mystery.

• Only Allah s.w.t. the Creator of every creation
knows the truth and Reality of our existence, the
reason for our being created and our destiny.
• Ever since Adam a.s., mankind has been promised
by Allah, guidance from Him. This is through His
sending men, who were Prophets and Messengers,
who received the Divine messages.
• And the basic fundamental Truth of the message
they bring must be universal, consistently similar
and unchanging, throughout.

TASAWWUR ISLAM

“And verily We have raised in every nation a
messenger, (proclaiming): Serve (worship) Allah and
shun false gods.
Then some of them (there were) whom Allah
guided, and some of them (there were) upon whom
error had just hold. Do but travel in the land and
see the nature of the consequence for the deniers!”
(Qur’an: An-Nahl: 16:36)

TASAWWUR ISLAM

“ Whosever receives guidance, receives it for his
own benefit: whosoever goes astray doth so to his
own loss: no bearer of burdens can bear the
burden of another: nor would We visit with Our
Wrath until We had sent an messenger (to give
warning).
When We decide to destroy a population, We
(first) send a definite order to those among them
who are given the good things of this life and yet
transgress; so that the word is proved true against
them: then We destroy them utterly.”
(Qur’an: al-Isra: 17:15-16)

PHENOMENON OF PROPHETHOOD
• We do acknowledge a category of people who
discover “Laws” in nature and regard them as
reliable and their findings learnt, applied and
continue to be taught.
• These are the people gifted with insights and
inspired with knowledge of the physical world.
We called them “Scientists”.

PHENOMENON OF PROPHETHOOD
• Yet there is another category of people, who
came in different place and time, yet all claimed
to receive Divine communication, asserted
similar universal message of God, of man’s
moral obligation, of the life in Hereafter etc.
• They delivered a message which transcend
knowledge of this physical world, inviting
mankind towards Faith in the One God. These
are the Anbiya’ [translated as “Prophets or
Apostles.”]

DISTINCTION BETWEEN ‘NABIY’ AND
‘RASUL’
• The word “Nabi” means
“prophet” refers to a
male person who
receives divine
inspiration, to assist
them in guiding the
people based upon
code of life which had
already been conveyed
by earlier Messengers
(Rasul).
• Word “Rasul” means a
“Messenger”, it refers
to a “Nabi” who were
tasked to convey a new
message, code of life to
the people,
complementing and
superseding what had
came before.

DISTINCTION BETWEEN ‘NABIY’ AND
‘RASUL’
• So not every “Nabi” is a
“Rasul”; whereas all
“Rasul” must also be a
“Nabi”.
• According to a tradition,
Allah has sent 124,000
Prophets (Anbiya’).

OUR BASIC STAND
“Say : We believe in Allah, and in that which has
been revealed to us and that which has been

Jacob, and the tribes, and that which was given
to Moses and Jesus and the prophets of their
lord; we make no division between any of them,

• Muslims do not regard al-Islam as a ‘religion’ or that
Islam was founded by Muhammad – as purported
in many history books.
• It is ‘Ad-Deen’ a total way of life, based upon
revelations from Allah (the One and only God),
proclaimed since the first Prophet Adam a.s.,
providing mankind with guidance through
submission to God’s Will (Islam) to be established in
accordance with their needs, until it culminated
with the coming of the final Prophet Muhammad -
as man’s life had gradually evolved from simple
nomadic life toward a higher or global civilization.31
CRITERIA

CRITERIA
• As man’s life and his needs differ from one era to
another, therefore some of the legal precepts (laws)
brought by these prophets would have to be
different – in accordance with differing times and
changing needs.
• Yet, in the fundamental Truth and the basic
teachings of Reality (Haqiqat),this would (and must)
be expected to remain unchanging and consistently
similar throughout – from Adam, to Noah, to
Abraham, to Moses, to Jesus and finally to
Muhammad. (Peace & blessings be upon them all).

• We believe these fundamental principles can guide
us to verify truth, whatever may remain amongst
the many ‘religions’ in today’s pluralistic world –
because in essence, all prophets advocating belief
in the One God, must be proclaiming the same basic
Truth.

TAUHIID
Say (O Muhammad): "I am but a man like yourselves,
(but) the inspiration has come to me, that your God is

admit no one as partner."

• Belief in the Absolute Oneness of God is the most
important teachings of every Prophet sent to
mankind since Adam a.s.
• The belief in One unique Divine Being (God) - Who
has neither partners nor image to be compared
with - was never a complex notion.
• Thus idol worship, or attempts to create images of
the Divine, ascribing anthropomorphic ideas into
theology etc. , cannot be attributed to teachings of
the Prophets - but were post-prophetic innovations
and theology introduced by others.

• Man’s inquisitive search to know about God’s
attributes and essence have led many to innovate
on their own, creating objects of worship
(ma’budat) – thus compromising the notion of God
being the Unique One – without likeness.
• This explain why certain religions, later became
infused with totem, anthropomorphism, myths,
superstitions etc.
• It is because of such deviations that subsequent
Prophets were sent - to correct and re-assert the
same universal Truth.

• So today, those who claim to being monotheistic,
must be sincere and eradicate whatever false
notions which certain theology may actually be
advocating, and return to adhere to the Truth.

• Such Truth ought to be simple (not simplistic), non-
contradictory and clear (not mysterious and
antithetical to reason). Message that can be
accepted by all levels of society. Thus:
“There is no other god except Allah (God)”
“Hear O Israel! your Lord our God, the Lord is One”
“God is One, but wise men call Him by many Names”
• Any subsequent teachings or theology which
deviate from, and opposed to, this basic Truth must
be regarded as crooked interpolation and false.

RISAALAH
“Praise be to Allah Who hath sent to His Servant the
Book, and hath allowed therein no Crookedness:
(He hath made it) Straight (and Clear), in order that
He may warn (the godless) of a terrible Punishment
from Him, and that He may give Glad Tidings to the
Believers who work righteous deeds, that they shall
have a goodly Reward.
Wherein they shall remain forever:”

RISAALAH
“Further that He may warn those (also) who say
"Allah hath begotten a son": No knowledge have
they of such a thing, nor had their fathers. It is a
grievous thing that issues from their mouths as a
saying. What they say is nothing but falsehood!
Thou wouldst only perchance, fret thyself to death,
following after them, in grief, if they believe not in
this Message. That which is on earth We have made
but as a glittering show for the earth, in order that
We may test them, as to which of them are best in
conduct.”
(Qur’an: Kahfi: 18: 4-7)

sperm, in order to test him; so We gave him
(gifts of) hearing, sight. Verily! We have
shown him the Way, whether he be grateful
or ungrateful i.e. disbelieving (rests on his
will).”

moulds. Then do We abase him (to be) the
lowest of the low― Except such as believe
and do righteous deeds: for they shall have a
reward unfailing. Then what can, after this,
contradict thee; as to the Judgment (to
come)? Is not Allah the wisest of Judges?”

RISAALAH
“Namely, that no bearer of burdens can bear the burden
of another; That man can have nothing but what he
strives for; That (the fruit of) his striving will soon come
in sight; Then will he be rewarded with a reward
complete; That to thy Lord is the final Goal;”

• The fundamental message from God throughout
human history, must be one and the same, and its
truth consistent and unchanging.
• It reveals man’s purpose and destiny; the reality of
existence that transcend this temporary worldly life
and warns mankind of the eternal destination in the
Hereafter; and provides mankind the guidance for
their salvation.
• It’s message, not only warns man of God’s Justice,
but also convey message of Hope of His Mercy and
forgiveness.

• The common theme of this is of man’s tribulation
against evil, since Adam a.s. - and the hope of
gaining Allah’s Forgiveness and Mercy through
repentance and submission to God’s Will (al-Islam).
• Neither does it contain anything which connotes
injustice towards man. Although having freewill to
choose his own destiny, it speaks of man’s potential
towards goodness, despite his shortcomings.
• And no one is made to bear the sins of another. And
no one shall the burden greater than what he can
bear.

hopelessness. Even if men were to sin, yet Allah is
willing to forgive any who repents and return to
the path of submission.

Forgiving, Most Merciful. Prophethood is fulfilment
of Allah’s promise to Adam a.s. for mankind:

AAKHIRAH
“Every soul shall have a taste of death: and only on the Day of
Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense. Only he
who is saved far from the Fire and admitted to the Garden
will have attained the object (of Life): for the life of this
world is but goods and chattels of deception.”

AAKHIRAH
“Fair in the eyes of men is the love of things they
covet: women and sons; heaped-up hoards of
gold and silver; horses branded (for blood and
excellence); and (wealth of) cattle and well-tilled
land. Such are the possessions of this world's life;
but in nearness to Allah is the best of the goals
(to return to).”

AAKHIRAH
“O ye who believe! (Be conscious of and ) Fear
Allah and let every soul look to what (provision)
he has sent forth for the morrow. Yea, (be
conscious of and) fear Allah: for Allah is well-
acquainted with (all) that ye do. And be ye not
like those who forgot Allah; and He made them
forget their own souls! such are the rebellious
transgressors! Not equal are the Companions of
the Fire and the Companions of the Garden: it is
the Companions of the Garden, that will achieve
Felicity.”
(Qur’an: Surah al-Hashr: 59: 18-20)

TASAWWUR ISLAM

• Every Prophet of Allah would convey the Reality of
the return – “the Day of Resurrection and eternal
life in the Hereafter.”
• Yet, it does not advocate rejection of this world
which mankind is expected to benefit from it, by
becoming grateful of every favours from Allah
contained within it.
• What it teaches mankind is to never neglect the
moral-religious considerations, and to be careful
not to be deceived by worldly greed into forgetting
that the eternal life in Hereafter is infinitely better.

• For every deed committed by man in this world,
good or bad, he would be held to account on
Judgement day.
• Every Prophet must surely have conveyed the
promise and warning – of reward and punishment –
resulting from man’s choices and own doing in this
world. Surely, good or bad, nothing is insignificant to
the scrutiny of God’s Justice.
• Belief and conviction in this aspect is crucial towards
the nurturing of a moral / ethical man – taught by
every of Allah’s Prophet without exception.

“O people of the Book! now hath come unto you, making
(things) clear unto you, Our Messenger after the break in
(the series of) Our Messengers, lest ye should say: there
came unto us no bringer of glad tidings and no warner
(from evil): but now hath come unto you a bringer of glad
tidings and a warner (from evil): and Allah hath power
over all things.”
(Qur’an: Ahzab: 33: 40)

“Say (tell them O Muhammad): "O my Servants who
have transgressed against their souls! Despair not
of the Mercy of Allah: for Allah forgives all sins: for
He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

"Turn ye to your Lord (in repentance) and bow to His
(Will), before the Penalty comes on you: after that ye
shall not be helped.”

"And follow the Best of (the courses) revealed to you
from your Lord, before the Penalty comes on you of a
sudden, while ye perceive not!”

“Say (O Muhammad): "If ye do love Allah, follow me:
Allah will love you and forgive you your sins; for Allah
is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."

“Muhammad is not the father of any of your men,
but (he is) the Messenger of Allah, and the Seal of the
Prophets: and Allah has full knowledge of all things."
(Qur’an: Ahzab: 33: 40)

“The parable of me and the other Prophets is
similar to that of a man who built a house and
perfectly decorated it except for a space of
one brick. The people used to go round this
house, wonder and say, ‘If only this missing
brick were put in!’
Thus, I am that brick and I am the Last of the
Prophets.”

THE BEAUTIFUL FELLOWSHIP
“All who obey Allah and the Messenger are in the
company of those on whom is the Grace of Allah―
of the Prophets (who teach) the sincere (lovers of
Truth), the witnesses (who testify), and the
Righteous (who do good): ah! How a beautiful
fellowship! Such is the Bounty from Allah: and
sufficient is it that Allah knoweth all.”
(Qur’an: an-Nisa: 4: 69-70)

“Our Lord ! Let not our hearts swerve from
the truth after You have guided us; and
bestow upon us the gift of Thy Grace
(Mercy): verily, You are the (true) giver of
Gifts (bestowals).”

َ‫ي‬ۡ‫ن‬ُّ‫ل‬‫أ‬ ‫ى‬‫ِف‬ ‫ا‬َ‫ن‬‫ى‬‫ت‬‫ا‬َ‫ء‬ ٓ‫ا‬َ‫ن‬َّ‫ب‬َ‫ر‬َ‫ر‬‫ى‬‫خ‬َ ۡ‫ۡل‬‫أ‬ ‫ى‬‫ِف‬َ‫و‬ ًٍ۬‫ة‬َ‫ن‬ َ‫س‬َ‫ح‬ ‫ا‬ًٍ۬‫ة‬َ‫ن‬ َ‫س‬َ‫ح‬ ‫ى‬‫ة‬
‫ى‬‫ار‬َّ‫ن‬‫ل‬‫أ‬ َ‫اب‬َ‫ذ‬َ‫ع‬ ‫ا‬َ‫ن‬‫ى‬‫ق‬َ‫و‬
"Our Lord! Give us good in this world and
good in the Hereafter and save us from
the torment of the fire!"
(Qur’an : al-Baqarah: 2 : 201)

ُُ‫ْل‬ََ‫أ‬ َ‫ُو‬َ‫ا‬َ‫م‬
“(May) Allah grant His Reward upon
Muhammad, salutations of Allah and
Peace be upon him and his family, in
accordance with what he deserves (in
Allah’s knowledge & estimation).”

َ‫ن‬‫ى‬‫ل‬ َ‫س‬ۡ‫ر‬ُ‫م‬ۡ‫ل‬‫أ‬ َ‫َل‬َ‫ع‬ ٰ‫ـ‬َ‫ل‬ َ‫س‬َ‫و‬َ‫ر‬ ‫ى‬ َّ ‫ى‬‫َّلل‬ ُ‫د‬ۡ‫م‬َ‫ح‬ۡ‫ل‬‫أ‬َ‫و‬‫ى‬‫ب‬
َ‫ن‬‫ى‬‫م‬َ‫ل‬ٰ‫ـ‬َ‫ع‬ۡ‫ل‬‫أ‬
”Glory to thy Lord the Lord, of Honour and
Power! (He is free) from what they ascribe
(to Him)! And Peace on the
Messengers! And praise to Allah, the Lord
and Cherisher of the Worlds.”
(Qur’an : Saffat: 37 : 180-182)
