Parent involvement is key to student success and comes in many forms. The document outlines 6 types of parent involvement defined by Joyce Epstein: parenting, communicating, volunteering, learning at home, decision making, and collaborating with the community. No matter parents' education level, not enough are involved in schools. The document provides examples for each type of involvement and stresses the importance of effective communication between parents and teachers.

Family Involvement: A Key Component of Student Success The term “parent involvement” is used to describe participation by a child’s primary caretaker(s) – whether that is a single mom, two parents, grandparents, foster parents, or an older sibling. Editor's Notes
Today schools and our community are preparing parenting workshops. This is a great resource to use, here they will teach the parents how to discipline children strategically inform parents of child abuse prevention, nutrition, mutual respect and power of engorgement. There is a program I wish to support as a teacher it’s called Choices for Children this program allows both Hispanic and Caucasian parents to be more aware of all the resources of education for parents. It is important to educate parents so that they can educate their children.
If parents and teacher come together they can stop this. There are different programs that can parents be more involved in school like PTA and parent tutoring. Volunteering in the class room will elevate the level of confidence in children and help form a bond between parents and teachers. This will help to avoid children to stay out of trouble and encourage children to do better in school A parent volunteering can change the life of a child.
I truly believe that what a parent dose at home with their children can make them highly successful or create a natural disaster. Parents need to spend quality time helping with home work or find a quiet place to talk about the how their child’s day was. It is important to provide a special and comfortable place to speak to kids. As a teacher I will implement a data worksheet that will provide an observation of every child in my class room this worksheet will also inform parent of their children’s best interest and what they need to work on. This sheet will also have homework for mom and dad to do with the student. I will also work on setting goals for students and parents and motivate them to learn along with their children.
