2. Cyber bullying uses technology to harass, threaten, embarrass or
target another person.
It is most common in young people
1 in 2 teens and 1 in 6 preteens have been affected by cyber
bullying
Many times cyber bullies don’t know they are being mean, they
think it might be a harmless joke
You shouldn’t say or send anything rude that you wouldn’t say
in person.
3. Some cyber bullying can be easy to depict:
such as; someone might be shown a text,
message or tweet that is hurtful
Some are less obvious than that such as;
posting personal
information, pictures or
videos to hurt or embarrass
someone
4. Direct Attacks: These would be done in the form
of instant messaging, text messaging, stealing
passwords, blogs, websites, sending pictures,
internet polling or interactive gaming
Cyber bullying by proxy: In this situation, the
cyber bully gets someone else to do their work
for them
Many times the person doesn’t know they are
being used for cyber bullying
This is the most dangerous form because adults
can get involved in the harassment without
knowing they are working with a kid
The most common way this is done is by the cyber
bully getting a hold of the victims account and
sending something out to everyone.
5. Those who are cyber bullied are at greater risk of
anxiety, depression and other stress related
disorders- some have turned into suicide or suicide
attempts
Signs:
Emotional distress during or after using the internet or
phone
Being productive or secretive with their
digital life
Withdrawal from friends and activities
Avoidance of school or group gatherings
Slipping grades and “acting out” in anger at
home
Changes in mood, behavior, sleep or appetite
6. Many of those who are cyber bullied are scared to tell an
adult because they are ashamed of the social stereotype
or they might fear losing their computer privileges

Bring up any past experiences you
might have so they know they aren’t alone

friends
Limit access to technology
Know your kids online world

about what they are doing and the negative
effect it has on others
Let them know that any form of bullying is
unacceptable
Talk to teachers and guidance counselors to
help identify what might cause their student
to bully someone
8. Many schools have a protocol against
bullying and it will be dealt with immediately
However, some schools can be sued if they
overstep any boundaries
It is important to be aware of the incidence
and know everything that has happened
before taking any extreme actions.
