Company Description Background - Vaco was founded in Nashville, TN in September 2002 by a group of former Big Four CPAs with project consulting leadership experience. Vaco’s goal is to provide flexible solutions for our clients’ project, consulting, and recruiting needs. Vaco Raleigh, LLC was formed in September of 2004. Dave Rhode, Sid Mitchener and Crystal Hughes are the local partners. Vaco Raleigh was the fifth Vaco office formed. David Rhode, CPA
David began his career as an auditor spending four years with a regional CPA firm.
David spent 12 years with a $10 billion Fortune 100 environmental company and, during his tenure, served as the Senior Division Controller, Division VP and Controller, and Region Sales Manager.
Before joining Vaco , David was the Division Director of a multi-billion dollar national consulting and recruiting firm.
David is a CPA and holds a BS degree in Accounting from St. Norbert College (Cum Laude).
David is one of the founders and serves as the anchor partner of Vaco Raleigh.
Crystal Hughes, CPA
Crystal relocated from Texas in 1995, where she began her accounting career in manufacturing focusing on cost accounting and inventory control.
Crystal then spent six years in public accounting assisting clients with tax compliance, and serving as an audit lead in a variety of industries. She also utilized her second degree in Trust Management providing Trust and Estate Planning Services.
Crystal is active in the NCACPA, having served on the Young CPA Cabinet as chairperson for the Social Committee. She is also involved with PLM Families Together, a non-profit organization focused on assisting the homeless with a variety of housing needs.
Crystal is a CPA and holds a BS degree in Accounting and a BS degree in Trust Management from Campbell University (Cum Laude). She is a partner of Vaco Raleigh.
Nick has over ten years experience in finance and financial systems.
His career has included positions as both a senior financial analyst and systems analyst.
Nick’s expertise includes financial system migrations and conversions, including Hyperion and SAP.
Nick graduated with honors with a BS in Finance from Liberty University.
Beth spent 20+ years working in Big Four public accounting and Accounting Manager and Controller positions in various public and private companies.
Beth spent over three years in financial and accounting placement as a Recruiting Manager and Division Director for a large, publicly traded recruiting agency.
Beth is active in the community and is a member of TSHRM, CED, and Triangle Business Builders in the Raleigh/Durham area where she has lived for over 20 years.
Beth holds a BBA degree in Accounting from Stephen F. Austin State University.
Chris began his career in Public Accounting where he spent six years working extensively in the tax and estate planning area, including tax implications of mergers/acquisitions, corporate reorganization, multi-state tax planning, S corporations, partnerships and LLC consulting.
Chris relocated from Florida in 2003. Before joining Vaco , he spent five years with the world’s largest staffing firm in their specialty staffing division for accounting and finance.
Chris holds a BS degree in Accounting from the University of South Florida.
Chris volunteers at Duke Children's Hospital in the Pediatric Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit as a Best Buddy.

Prior to joining Vaco , Sid worked as a producing Branch Manager with a S&P 500 recruiting firm in Raleigh focusing on developing the IT staffing and accounting / finance consulting divisions.
Sid has 13 years of recruiting, sales, and sales management experience in the engineering, IT staffing and consulting industries.
Sid is a founder and partner of Vaco Raleigh, LLC.
Sid holds a BS degree in Economics from the Virginia Military Institute.
He is an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity
Vern is an experienced business consultant with over 12 years in the IT staffing industry.
During this time he served on a leadership committee to develop recruiting best practices and search engines for a multi-billion dollar agency that are still in use today.
For the past 7 years, his experience has been focused on account management, new business development of application, infrastructure, and telecommunication specific projects.
His portfolio of customers served as a list of "who’s who" in the fortune 500, as well as smaller to mid-size companies in banking, manufacturing, government services, and technology markets.
Vern also served 8 years in the United States Marine Corp.
Rupa brings 10+ years of hands-on IT experience, the vast majority with one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical firms.
Rupa led teams of 30 IT professionals providing infrastructure and telecom support, designed and implemented training programs, and identified and selected technical talent.
Rupa holds a BS degree in Psychology from East Carolina University (Cum Laude).

Beth has spent her entire career as a recruiter in the Information Technology discipline where her ability to build strong relationships, and a drive to always respect and put her candidates and customers first has earned her high regards and respect in the marketplace.
Her training and experience enables her to develop trust, respect and strong communication avenues with internal and external customers in the process of sourcing, screening and recruitment of top-tier candidates.
Beth earned her degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was a scholar athlete on the women’s golf team.
Tommy has 15 years experience in IT focused primarily in product implementation, administration, support and executive management. His background in software development, manufacturing, retail and healthcare IT enables him to clearly understand client needs and provide accurate solutions.
For the past 8 years, his experience in healthcare software solutions allowed Tommy to lead teams of up to 25 employees and multiple consultants in project management, field service and sales engineering to increase revenue year over year.
Tommy holds BS degree in Business Administration from Campbell University and served 11 years in the US Army, National Guard and Reserves.
Tommy Dalton Adam Staton
Adam has six years of consulting and recruitment experience in the areas of technology, leadership, and niche’ placement in capacities of talent acquisition, business development and overall account management.
Working with clientele ranging from startups to Fortune 50 companies, he has worked in the nation’s top three technology-driven markets of Silicon Valley, Research Triangle Park and Austin, TX.
One of Adam’s crowning achievements includes the launch of a startup IT Consulting branch from scratch for a national Technology service provider that took first-place national awards in its first year of inception within a Fortune 500 organization.
Adam holds a BA degree in Communication from East Carolina University, and enjoys staying abreast of new developments within bleeding-edge technology.

Troy brings 15 years of experience within the design, eLearning, gaming, and media industries. His focus has primarily been in design and development, project management, division and team management and establishing and maintaining client relations.
Troy has established and managed global production departments in the US, Canada, London, Italy and India.
He has 8 years of experience in setting up company organizations, business development, optimizing operation efficiencies, and developing branding/marketing strategies.
Troy has managed multiple 1+ million dollar developmental projects and acted as liaison with global vendor management.
Before joining Vaco Troy managed global production teams in the US and Europe of 100+ Designers, Developers, Instructional Designers and Project Managers that produced eLearning and training applications for fortune 500 companies.
He currently holds board positions on the Contemporary Art Foundation and the North Carolina Advanced Learning Technologies Association and an active member in the ASTD, IGDA, and AIGA groups. He is also an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity
Troy has degrees in Architecture, Mechanical and Civil Engineering.
Gary has 15+ years of human resources and operations experience.
Before joining Vaco , Gary served eight years as the VP of Corporate Services for a software company focused on the transportation sector. His responsibilities included finance, accounting, human resources management, facilities, network administration, internal audit, purchasing, risk management and contracts.
Gary holds a BS degree in Psychology (with an Industrial/Organizational focus) from Radford University.
Paul brings over 25 years of experience in Operations, Logistics, Asset Management and Import/Export Compliance plus a wealth of Marketing and Sales experience to Vaco .
While working for a Fortune 500 transportation firm, Paul was responsible for equipment management operations of a $3 billion business unit. The key performance indicator was to meet customer requirements while increasing efficiency and reducing costs.
Prior to joining Vaco , Paul served as the Chief Marketing Officer and the Chief Operating Officer for a transportation-related IT software company with responsibility for developing corporate business strategy while overseeing Customer Service and Data Center Operations.
Paul holds a BS degree in Management from Rhode Island College and attended graduate school at Drexel University.

Dan is the founder and 20-year publisher of Business Leader magazine. As president of Business to Business Inc., he also founded several specialty magazines and conferences.
Dan is also the creator of two of the region's most popular networking events for executives: the Business Leaders' Breakfast and Breakfast in The Park. In this role, he has presented over 100 of the region's top CEOs.
He has served on the board of the Council for Entrepreneurial Development, the Triangle United Way, the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and Raleigh Sales and Marketing Executives where he also served as president. He has also headed up work groups for the Emerging Issues Institute and served on the Business Committee for Higher Education. He is currently president of the Fifty Group.
Dan is a graduate of the University of Miami. Prior to founding Business Leader, he held various management positions with Gillette, Six Flags and North Hills corporations.
Bob Reuss - Vice President Business Development CPA Minnesota June 1967 to May 1994
Bob works with Vaco in the Triangle as the Vice President of Business Development and is also available as a high level financial project consultant for Vaco clients.
Bob has been a CEO, CFO, Investment Banker and private investor. He has extensive M&A experience as a seller, buyer and intermediary in transactions involving both public and private companies. He has been a CFO in two IPO’s.
He has a degree in Electrical Engineering and a Masters of Industrial Management from Purdue University. He worked with Deloitte and Touche and held a CPA in Minnesota from June of 67 to May of 94.
He has also attended the advanced management program at the Wharton School and been a licensed financial principal with the SEC.
