Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia's capital and largest city, is experiencing rapid population growth that is straining its infrastructure. Its population is expected to reach 1.7 million by 2030, up from the current 1.3 million, but infrastructure development has not kept pace. A 2013 master plan approved by Mongolia's parliament aims to guide Ulaanbaatar's development through 2030 with investments in transportation, utilities, and housing to support the growing population. Public-private partnerships will be important for funding major infrastructure projects valued at over $16 billion that are needed to modernize Ulaanbaatar's infrastructure network by 2030.
