Explanations for this led to a humanistic approach to learning theory that would eventually recognise three human needs the satisfaction of which motivated human behaviour (including learning). A) Thus, we were alert to the possibility of freedom of choice â especially in areas that the institution considers valuable such as assessment practice and the determination of appropriate subject matter for study; B) It means giving validation to aspects of studentsâ experience; C) It means striving to create identity groups within the student body, and across the student and faculty divide.

When viewed by one familiar with SDT it is clear that Sandelâs use of the intuitive moral sense of his student audience manages to recognise their competence, and respect their autonomy, whilst celebrating the community of seekers after the right.
