My Desire To Serve In The United States Air Force
My desire to serve in the United States Air Force as a commissioned officer stems from the
environment in which I grew up and an underlying, deep–rooted desire for public service. Many
members of my family were privileged to serve in different capacities. In fact, I was able to obtain
academic credentials because of their service. I feel that it is only right that I spend a portion of my
life using the knowledge, skills, and abilities I have earned to serve my country in this capacity.
Another reason that I am seeking a commission is that I desire an opportunity to prove myself at the
highest level. In school, I have learned how to gather data and interpret it and I am confident that the
technical skills I have developed will be up to

United States Air Force Research Paper
United States Air Force Research Report
February 7, 2011
Executive Summary The United States Air Force has been able to carry on a great tradition of air
supremacy and advanced technology. They were born in September 1947, when they separated from
the Army Air Core, and became their own unit (www.peterson.af.mil). Providing for the troops that
serve always has been a top priority of the Air Force. The Air Force is run in management form, just
like any large organization, or small business. It has a rank structure, where tasks are delegated
down from the ranking Officers through the Enlisted Core. After significant evaluation, I have
researched and identified the following six categories necessary for the Air Force to preserve ...

Competition within the Air Force is similar to real–world businesses. Making rank equals more
money and respect. In the Marines and the Army, it is much easier to make rank. To properly
compete, the AF needs to recognize possible issues that may drive their hardworking employees to
another branch, or even separate from the military entirely. Management understands that
improvement on their employee's happiness is critical in completing the mission. The military
members have no incentive to work harder besides fear of reprimand, or paperwork. The military
has great job security; a person needs make a serious mistake to be discharged. Therefore, the AF
understands they need to keep their people happy and take care of them so the mission can be
delivered. Upper management needs to assert certain ways to collect data such as surveys, to see
how they can help their troops. Anonymous surveys are important because they may lead to more
honest answers discussing problems that they may not address otherwise (Cooper & Schindler,
2006). Another way to seek out possible issues is conduct focus groups. Conducting qualitative and
quantitative research using focus groups could be insightful, gathering pertinent data from the
people in each workplace (Cooper & Schindler, 2006). This research will lead to a better perception
for what needs to be focused on the most. Action needs to be taken quickly by senior leadership so
the workers see that they are not a low

Pros And Cons Of The United States Air Force
1. The purpose of this paper is to represent the position on why the United States Air Force (USAF)
should bring Warrant Officers (WO) back into service to fly unmanned aircraft. First, a positive of
having WOs would be to quickly fill the current manning shortage in the Remotely Piloted Aircraft
(RPA) community because more Airmen would qualify only needing a two year degrees. However,
the current solution is to push more cadets through Officer Training School (OTS) to fly RPAs. This
will fix the manning shortage over time while also fitting the current USAF structure. On the other
hand, another positive of WOs flying RPAs in the USAF would be saving money. After an overview,
one has to understand the current demographics of the USAF. 2. Today, the USAF needs 200 more
drone pilots to keep up with the current mission requirements.1 One area to pull the RPA pilots from
is the enlisted corp. The USAF currently has 248,317 Enlisted, of that 25.1 percent have associate's
degrees and only 8.5 percent have bachelor's degrees.2 Statistically the USAF has 16.6 percent more
enlisted personnel with an associates degree than personnel with bachelors degrees. If the USAF
allowed WOs with an associate's degree to fly RPAs, it would make an additional 41,220 enlisted
personnel available to apply. Next, one needs to understand the current ... Show more content on

The current solution is to increase commissioning thought USAF OTS. In 2016, OTS is expected to
admit 1,100 cadets into the USAF officer commissioning program.3 In comparison, OTS only
accepted 550 cadets in 2015.4 This solution allows the USAF to keep the current command structure
and invest little money and time in reorganizing new WO command structure. Also, field grade
officers can fill other staff jobs, while WOs cannot. The USAF would save some money not
changing the current manning structure. Also commissioned officers have more leadership training
than a typical WO. Despite that, the USAF would save more accepting

My Leadership Philosophy Of The United States Air Force
The intention of this paper is to introduce my leadership philosophy. I will start off defining
leadership as well as explaining my leadership philosophy. I will then share a summary of an
interview with a Squadron Commander about a difficult situation that he needed to use his
philosophy to work through and analyze how my philosophy applies to the same situation followed
by a brief summary.
There are numerous definitions of the word "leadership" and it can mean many things to many
people. For the purpose of this assignment I feel the best definition of leadership is "...the art and
science of motivating, influencing, and directing airmen to understand and accomplish the Air Force
mission in joint warfare."1 When taking over a new command it ... Show more content on

I believe without integrity as the cornerstone in building any relationships, higher levels of
productivity cannot be obtained and ultimately with crumble. It is important for your people to trust
that you have their interests and goals at heart while also laying out clear expectations early on in
your command and trusting, yet verifying all parties are meeting expectations. Throughout my life
and previous experiences I have witnessed firsthand how cohesive units are when these values are
incorporated into leadership philosophies and have also seen how detrimental it is to the unit if they
are not incorporated. An additional layer to integrity is that I would never ask of others what I would
or could not do myself. Nothing will alienate a follower quicker than a leader who is unwilling to
work as hard as or demonstrate that they are willing to get in the trenches with the people they are
leading.
For my interview, I interviewed a peer who is a squadron commander at Grand Forks Air Force
Base, ND4. He stated his most challenging leadership issue came about early on in his command.
Within the first six weeks of his command, seven of his Airmen failed their PT tests. One of these
failures was an Airman facing a medical evaluation board due to several back surgeries. The
commander states he was sympathetic to his situation but he had to remain tough since it was

The Role of Culture and Leadership in the United States...
The Role of Culture and Leadership in the United States Air Force Merriam Webster's dictionary
defines culture as "the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an
institution or organization" and leadership as "the act or an instance of leading." The United States
Air Force, like any other large organization, relies on leadership at all levels to effectively operate its
mission. Further, the United States Air Force since it's inception in 1947 has had a continuously
evolving set of cultures unique to the organization. Joining these two concepts together has directly
lead to the United States Air Force being held as the "Best Air Force in the World." The United
States Air Force began developing its own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Airmen assigned to the United States Air Force wear distinctive uniforms that convey membership
in the organization as well as facts about the individual. From their rank within the organization via
insignias, their functions via occupational badges to their past duty locations and accolades in the
form of ribbons on their chest, just merely seeing the individual in uniform will tell you much about
the person (Beyland, 2011). The United States Air Force's artifacts do not stop there, even
something as simple as what colors building are painted is unique to the service. Regardless of
location, most permanent building are painted a shade of brown colloquially known as "Creech
brown" after General Wilbur Creech who first prescribed its use (McCarthy, 2007). Ceremonies and
rituals (George & Jones, 2011) form the basis of every major event in an Air Force member's life.

playing of the retreat and the lowering of the flag at the end of the day; each act, regulated and

The Crash Of The United States Air Force
Unfortunately, crashes and crises aren't a new things in today 's world. Far too often we have car
crashes, boats sinking, car explosions, or bus crashes. Not too often do you hear about plane crashes,
however, when you do it is fatal. One truly amazing plane crash involved two amazing pilots, birds,
and one miracle landing on the Hudson. One captain of flight 1549 was captain Chesley
Sullenberger, age of fifty eight at the time. Sullenberger was no rookie to flying he had been flying
since 15 when he enlisted in flight lessons from a local pilot in his hometown. At the age of eighteen
Sullenberger went on to become a fighter pilot for the United States Air Force, he spent the next ten
years in the air force until being asked to be a pilot for U.S. Airways. Chesley logged a total of
20,000 hours of pilotry in his career and spent his free time learning and teaching pilots about flight
safety and how to prepare for the worst. Chesley spent hours learning the anatomy of a plane, as
well as various crashes and famous pilots learning exactly what needed to happen if such an
occasion were to occur. Of course we all know that every crash is different and no matter how much
you study you will never be truly prepared for such an event. Sullenberger has two daughters one of
sixteen and the other of fourteen and a wife. Thursday morning, before the crash Sullenberger woke
up early, he drove to San Francisco International Airport, he was to fly to Charlotte for a four day

State of Purpose to Enter the Air Force
Goal setting is vital to anyone with a mission. By having goals your capable of planning how your
going to reach those goals you've set for yourself. My personal goals are to leave a legacy on my
JROTC unit, increase my G.P.A and to become a general in the Air Force.
My first goal is to be able to bring my G.P.A. up to at least a 3.8 before this school year ends. I want
to do this because I want to be salutatorian of my graduating class. Since our G.P.As aren't that far
apart I figured this is an attainable goal for me since I'm highly capable of increasing my grades
dramatically by just Working hard in every class I have to receive straight As every quarter. So Far I
have almost reached that goal I only received one B on my report card but I can still receive an A for
the semester if I don't let my Grade drop below an A in that class. I want to achieve this goal
because I would like to prove to everyone that ever doubted my intelligence that I have the
capability to achieve success rather they are in my corner or not. Although I am number 3 at this
point being number 2 would be my biggest under dog accomplishment of my high school career.
The reason that I want to go t accomplish is to set the bar for my younger siblings behind me; to
show them that it is possible to achieve greatness although we have been through hard times in our
life.
My next goal is to leave a lasting impression on my JROTC unit. In order to leave a legacy on my
JROTC unit I'm going to have to do

The United States Air Force
1. The United States Air Force is the dominant force in the world in terms of air power. The mission
is to "Fly, fight and win in air, space and cyberspace." Currently, the Air Force accomplishes this
mission well, taking to the sky and dominating both air and space with little opposition. However,
the question remains whether the Air force can produce these same effects in the future. The purpose
of this paper is to advocate that the United States Air Force is unprepared to remain the dominant
airpower and should change their philosophy to better meet the demands of future conflicts.
2. A problem with the current United States Air Force philosophy is that it tends to favor efficiency
over effectiveness.1 With an increasing need to streamline procedures, the Department of Defense
claims it can operate more efficiently by reforming weapons acquisition with an emphasis on
operating jointly and attacking redundancies among military services.2 The Air Force continues to
decline in numbers and strength as the American perception of air threats decreases and the focus on
land campaigns increase.3 This shift is best characterized by a quality over quantity mentality,
upgrading the current fleet with new sensor suites, avionics and weapons.4 In terms of sustained
deployments and wars of attrition, mass quantities of advanced aircraft and highly skilled personnel
are needed to meet the demands of a worst–case scenario engagement.
3. To combat this problem, the Air Force should

Employee Development In The United States Air Force
Apart from leaders being aware of their employees' intrinsic values, they must be able to provide
honest and valuable feedback. This can be done formally or informally. Continuous feedback may
be more beneficial being that both parties are able to actively see growth, or the lack thereof, and if
the developmental opportunities are valuable (Lerner, 2016). When doing feedback, or even
determining which path to take, leaders must ensure the focus remains on the development of the
employee versus doing it just to have someone else trained on a task that falls under that leader.
Another factor to consider is leaders must ensure they are not biased to whom they want to provide
developmental opportunities to. Showing preferential treatment to star performers over those who
may be mediocre can portray a negative image to employees. Both could benefit from the
opportunity and the ending results could ultimately strengthen the organization from within due to
having a staff with increased aptitude which can lead to increased quality of results in the workplace
(Vuta & Farcas, 2015).
Example of Employee Development
According to the Air Force Doctrine Document 1–1, force development incorporates a multitude of
challenges and experiences combined with training and education opportunities that help develop
Air Force leaders (Scheiner, 2006). Within the United States Air Force, individuals are provided
skills needed to be an efficient Airman by being challenged physically and

There are careers in this world in which people may be subjected to many different religions. I have
been in the United States Air Force for seven years and have experienced religious differences on a
daily basis. The Air Force makes it mandatory to receive training on equal opportunity and treating
people with respect no matter what faith they may practice. Some of the training consists of
computer based training and also face to face training on how to adapt to religious and cultural
differences when representing the United States Air Force. In this career field you encounter

During my deployment I had to adapt to Islamic customs, courtesies and religious practices. I got
the opportunity to visit a village and eat with some local villagers. According to Buzzle.com,
"Dining in Afghanistan is a different experience and food is generally shared by everyone from the
same dish. While eating it is customary to sit on the floor and eat with your hands. It is considered
taboo to eat with your left hand and always leave something on your plate, or else it will get filled
up quickly." I had no idea about these customs and courtesies and felt very out of place during
lunch. The interpreter then explained to me that it is normal to eat from the same dish and that it is
customary not to grab food with your left hand. Once I realized some of the customs and courtesies I
had no problem adapting because I was in their place of residence and wanted to treat the Afghan
villagers with respect. Overall, I found the lunch to be a very memorable event and realized that the
Islamic religion can be very welcoming and respectful.
I also had the opportunity to work hand in hand with some local villagers on construction projects. I
found out very quickly that the Afghan villagers were very hard working and had pride in their work
ethic. I could see that they felt a strong accomplishment in their work quality. They received wages

Airpower Impact On The United States Air Force
From the early age of airpower development in the United States, airpower theorists, and advocates
believed and prophesized, that airpower can win the war by itself. Turning back to the age prior to
the independence of the United States Air Force (USAF) as a service, airpower advocates
emphasized that bomber will always get through and that it will produce decisive blow to the enemy
and win the war. Moreover, they argued that airpower alone could win the war quickly without the
need to employ other services, that it is cheaper because bombers replace large force employment
costs and precisely hitting only important targets avoids collateral damage. That promise of the early
airpower advocates continued to be the core belief of the new independent United States Air Force
after 1947. Looking its promise over the past 70 years the airpower gradually advanced toward its
fulfillment and with rapid technology advances, that the USAF is highly dependent on, airpower
finally achieved its promise. The airpower proved to end wars more quickly and save lives of
solders, to cost less in order to achieve military and political objectives, and to avoid collateral
damage with its precision capabilities. Nevertheless, implications of achievement of promise can be
that airpower can be used as a mean of political objectives that can severely limit or misuse
airpower's capabilities. At the early ages of the employment, the airpower gradually started to
achieve its promise through its

The History of the United States Air Force Essay
The United States Air Force is a dedicated and effective establishment, and has been a great
advantage in protecting the United States during numerous wars. It all started on August 1, 1907,
General James Allen, Cheif Signal Officer or the U.S Army created and established the Aeronautical
Division. He entrusted this organization with "All matters pertaining to military ballooning air
machines and related subjects." (Creation) Allen then put in command, Captain Charles D. Chander
who was assisted by two enlisted men. The Aeronautical Division is the very beginning of todays
U.S Airforce. Then in July of 1914, the aeronautical division was put under the Aviation Section. It

Then, nearly one and a half years later, the Army reorganization act of 1920 made the Air Services
into a combatant arm of the military. A few years later, the Air Corps act of 1926 replaced the Army
Air Service with the Army Air Force. In September of 939, when World War II was put into motion,
the Air Corps began to steadily develop. A few years later, on June 20,1941, the Departent of War
formed the Army Air Forces as it's aviation sector. Soon after, it was made equivalent to the army's
ground forces and the Air Corps remained one of the Army's combat arms, like infantry. When the
surprise attack on Hawaii took place, the development of the Army Air Forces oversaw the assembly
of the nation's aviation manufactury and establishment of the largest air armada of all time. By this
time, the Army Air Forces was the strongest they had ever been with 80,000 aircraft and 2.4 million
personnel divided into different commands, divisions, and groups. But after the conclusion of WWI,
the US demobilized it's armed forces right away. (Missions) Because of the Army Air Forces
wartime achievments and future potential, the AAF expanded and from then on it was called The
United States Air Force. This new name brought independence as a full partner with the army and
the navy. (USAF) The United States Air Force has traveled on a dangerous road to get to where it is

The future of air combat does not lie within how many ordinances a plane can carry, the size of its
gun, or the amount of time it can stay in the air; but rather how quickly, easily and precisely it can
accomplish these tasks. The F–35 has automated systems that allow the pilot to concentrate on
mission planning, while the very low–observable (VLO) stealth technology allows the plane to enter
the combat zone undetected and take out the enemy's ground fortifications.11 While the A–10 can
only fly in uncontested environments and the F–16 is easily captured on enemy radars, the F–35 can
fly in undetected using VLO and drop fifth–generation ordinances with remarkable accuracy.
Furthermore, when the major ground threats have been eliminated, the F–35 is capable of putting on
exterior armaments including an additional Gatling gun for close–air support and a mixture of air–
to–ground and air–to–air ordinances.12 Dave Deptula, the head of the Air Force Association's
Mitchell Institute, stated "fifth–generation aircraft are not 'fighters', they are 'sensor–shooters'
optimized for different threat regimes, and can perform the roles of "F," "B," "A," "RC," "E," "EA"
and AWACS aircraft of the past."13 The F–35 is the future of the United States Air Force. 5. This

My Personal Command Philosophy Of The United States Air Force
I am Joseph Maruska, I am currently a Major in the United States Air Force. This essay will
introduce you to my personal command philosophy. It will also summarize and analyze a brief
interview recently conducted with a current squadron commander using my own leadership
philosophy as a guide. Throughout this essay I will draw upon my own personal experiences and
thoughts, lessons discussed throughout the Leadership and Command Course, as well the discussion
with a current squadron commander. Leadership and command styles come in many different forms
and there is not necessarily a correct or incorrect way to lead depending on your organization or
current turn of events. This essay is simply my thoughts after being in the Air Force for the last
eleven years. Until being assigned this essay I do not believe I outright thought about having an
actual command philosophy. However, there have been many moments throughout my career when
I would think to myself, "If I am ever in command I will never do that to my Airmen" or the
opposite, "That is the kind of commander or leader I want to be someday." I believe most people in
the Air Force can definitely relate to those sentiments and draw upon those experiences to define
their own command and leadership styles. To answer the group commander 's question of what is a
concise description for my leadership style it would be mission first, people always, and command
by example. Expanding upon the first and most important

The Performance Report Of The United States Air Force
How much effort would the average employee put in at work if they quality and quantity of work
produced, did not have any effect on their annual performance report? Most workers would do the
minimum, because there are no incentives to exceed the standard. How can the senior leaders
effectively differentiate between employees, to ensure that the correct individuals are being
promoted when all the employees receive the highest ratings on their annual performance reports?
This is one of the problems with the current performance reports in the United States Air Force
today. This paper will begin with a brief background on the current performance report issues, the
new performance report, and the effect on the individual perceptions. The paper will continue with
how the group is using communication to influence, and finally, how a change in culture is needed
for the new system to work.
The United States Air Force has been using the same basic process for performance reports and
promotions, with only a few minor changes since their inception 45 years ago. With the manning in
the Air Force being the smallest it has been since it's inception in 1947, the senior leaders want to
ensure they are promoting the best performers (Harper, 2014). Since military leaders can give orders
that could mean an individuals death and is a hierarchy, it is very important that a leader be the most
qualified person in technical and leadership ability. The Air Force uses the Weighted Airmen

Overview of the United States Air Force Art Collection
The conditions of war are rather difficult and require a great deal of concentration and
determination. This is one of the reasons for which the United States Army has developed several
mechanisms through which its soldiers and recruits can ensure a wider variety of recreational
activities that drive them away from the stress of everyday assignments. These include art and
music, which are essential for relieving some of the pressures that soldiers face in their duty. There
have been numerous attempts through which aspects such as art and music have come to be
connected with war–like conditions and that have determined an improved state of mind of the
soldiers. At the same time however, there is a constant need to further contemplate the activities
undergone by soldiers through different manifestation of recreational endeavors that include, among
others, art and music. The United States Air Force has provided the necessary background to
encourage the establishment and further development of an artistic view on the activities undergone
by its members through the US Air Force Art program. One of the main aspects of the mission of the
program is "The United States Air Force Art Collection documents the story of the Air Force

United States Air Force Brainpower Analysis
The United States Air Force has secured our country in the air, as well as space through the skills
and talents of the brave Airmen of American. During the Cold War Era, the United States Air Force
assumed control of the Strategic Air Command(SAC), which controlled America's airborne strategic

generals gave way to the Fighter Mafia of the 1970's and the 1980's that had a different mindset that
had infiltrated the United States Air Force (Martin, 2015). The United Air Force had to be ready at
any given moment to use its nuclear arsenal power, due to the events that were taking place in
Europe, due to the Soviet Union and, the Middle East (Martin, 2015). Also, SAC had to be ready to
respond to the actions of the Union of Soviet Socialists Republics (USSR) overseas as well, due the
Soviet Union becoming the second nuclear power in the world (Martin, 2015).
The United States Air Force dedicated its brainpower analysis, and ability towards understanding the
USSR (Martin, 2015). President Reagan referred to the USSR as an evil empire (Columbia Southern

reconnaissance satellites (Martin, 2015). Due to the development of the ... Show more content on

The United States Air Force
In May of 1960, one botched Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) mission changed the espionage era
forever, as the planet anxiously awaited if the nuclear apocalyptic was approaching. American and
Soviet doctrines were oil and water, their militaries an unstoppable force and immoveable object.
The tension surrounding these two powers was known as the Cold War, and one incident spiraled the
bloodless war to the brink of full scale nuclear war as some thought the strained relationship was at
a point of no return. This paper analyzes how the different perspectives through newspapers articles

was flying a directed course well outside Soviet territorial limits but encountered severe winds
during this nighttime flight and may therefore have overflown the southern tip of Sakhalin, a

The U.S. note to the Soviets acknowledged that a USAF patrol craft may have been blown off
course into an unintentional violation of Soviet airspace north of Japan (Averhill).
The article stresses key words like, "accidently", "patrol craft", "unintentional", and "may have" to
effectively diminish this humiliating plunder in order to keep Americans to believe that the U.S. is
still superior to the USSR. Moreover, this article's purpose is indicative of the geological region as
it's an article published in a very urban city in the U.S.
A newspaper with a different approach was published by a Russian newspaper company and later
translated by the Los Angeles Times. The title of the article read, "On Khrushchev's Orders:
'Remarkable Rocket' Destroyed U.S. Plane". Just by the heading of the newspaper article, the
message was clear what the Soviets were trying to get across the table. A Soviet official said that the
"rocket forces such as that have become the main component of our armed forces" (Moscow Times).
Using the key words as "main component" was a gesture just to scare Americans, for it was later
revealed that the Soviets

The Death Of The United States Air Force
There has never been a moment in my life that wasn't colored with thoughts of other people. My
earliest memories are of butchering hogs on the farm, loading all the meat into huge coolers in the
back of my mom's truck to give away to the families of the disabled children she cared for. When I
was 15 I started volunteering in a local nursing home and my senior year of high school I took half
days so I could start pursuing a nursing degree through the local community college. So it seemed
only natural that I continued the tradition of service before self by joining the United States Air
Force. I can't even express how much I loved my job and I was good at it. I truly thought I had
found my path. So it was like mourning a death when an adverse reaction to a vaccine left me with a
rare disorder, a pacemaker and a medical retirement. The loss of my career, the demise of my health
and the havoc both wrought on my life led me down a dark road. It wasn't until I realized that the
silver lining in the situation was having the freedom and financial independence to spend my time
finding ways to help other people. If anything helping other people became my salvation and my
sanity. So when I ran across this contest I couldn't help but think how incredibly well timed it was as
Virginia is exactly the place I had planned on moving back to in 2.5 years when the love of my life's
military career finally came to a close. My mind immediately began racing with thoughts of all the

The Five Management Functions Within The United States Air...
The five management functions can be found in any successful organization and is the foundation
for achieving the organizations goals. Our text states, "management functions encompass innovative
planning, detailed organization, diligent leadership, systematic staffing and finally must possess
those abilities that permit the controlling of both human and organizational resources to accomplish
a company's pre–determined objectives. (Baack, Reilly, & Minnich, 2014, p. 1.3) "In this paper I
will address each concept of Planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling and how they
are implemented in day to day operations in the United States Air Force, with a heavy concentration
in the Special Tactics community.
Planning is the deliberate act of establishing goals, and formulating a game plan in order to
accomplish a long term end state. This process is done by leaders at the strategic, tactical and
operational levels. "Strategic planning is a management tool. It is used for the purpose helping an
organization do a better job – to focus its energy, to ensure that members of the organization are
working toward the same goals, to assess and adjust the organization 's direction in response to a
changing environment. In short, strategic planning is a disciplined effort to produce fundamental
decisions and actions that shape and guide what an organization is, what it does, and why it does it,
with a focus on the future." (Bryson, 1988, p. 73) The Tactical level consists of mid

Group Dynamics In The United States Air Force
The United States Air Force is arguably the most advanced military fighting force in the world and
these advancements go far beyond technology. The nine years I served in the Air Force afforded me
the opportunity to work and train alongside other branches of US and their allies fighting forces
which permitted me to observe each branch and their personnel management and now time to reflect
on it. There are several unique characteristics that separate the Air Force from the rest, but the most
obvious trait is it always sends the most qualified personnel into combat first regardless of rank. The
focus is on training, details of function and ability, and cohesiveness to the mission; a break from the
classical Theory X concept of military personnel management. This is a stark difference from other
US branches of service. But what does this have to do with conflict management? Well, the same
uniqueness of its scholarly approach to combat conflict correlates to group dynamics and managing
difference within them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One concept they subscribe to within both large and small group dynamics is conflict is not

on moving the group from the storming phase to the performing phase. However, the success of the

My Experience In The United States Air Force
Almost 18 years in the United States Air Force has brought out numerous differences between me
and other kids. Military life can be difficult for some people and tough to adjust, but for others it is a
chance for a fresh start, a chance for a change. As soon as one gets their surrounding settled, built
bonds with others, and explored their culture around them; we get orders to leave. The ability to
travel non–stop to be with family and friends across the country and sometimes across the world, is
the greatest experience a kid could ever ask for.
Over the years, lessons have been taught, stories have been told, engines have roared, and shots have
been fired. Knowing how to salute properly is one thing, knowing who to salute to is another. When
my brother and I were kids and occasionally today, we would march around the house singing
military jodies and reciting the American rights. I am a military brat, a part of a strong community ...

I learned the same things that my father, grandfather and brother learned in Basic Military Training
without even going. The military might look like a great deal of guns, planes, and violent weapons,
but airmen study just like any college student. We first learn the stripes on the shoulders, the ribbons
on their Blues, and responsibilities of every personal. Our parents train us to act like an airman and
speak the lingo. As a fact, one year for Halloween, I was dressed as one with an actual flight suit.
The best way I learned the stripes was watching my father climb the ladder of success. Starting with
two stripes in California and gaining one to travel to Portugal, now he has many more stripes and
running his own squadron. The possibilities and the opportunities they present are endless. Because
of the military, I learned, encountered, and traveled to different bases to meeting three star generals,

Who Is The For The United States Air Force?
TSgt Maggs you have currently completed all required all five and seven level upgrade training,
however, I am aware that you have desires to advance within your military career. There will be
some additional training opportunities and additional options we will discuss later that will allow
you to better achieve that goal and make you a more complete asset to the United States Air Force.
Team Member Most Probable Preferred Role:
I can often count on you to complete task in an effective and efficient manner. Your ability to
execute when needed makes you invaluable to me. Once the plan is in place you take the ball and
run with it. I have also noted that when issues arise you can step out of that preferred role of
execution, and offer constructive creative options. I would say you predominantly exhibit the traits
associated with the role of executor in a team setting, however, I believe you do have the capacity to
step outside of that predominant trait at any time accomplish the team goal. I think that versatility
will benefit you greatly as you move along in your career.
Cognitive Preference Behaviors/Indicators:
Based on what I have observed of your performance and problem solving skills, you tend to exhibit
traits I would consider closer to a mild adaptor. The reason I believe this is because while you tend
to utilize existing paradigms to solve problems or complete tasks, you certainly have no trouble
stepping outside of the box when the need arises to find

against all of those threats. You cannot resist such complex issues. You will need to embody a strong
company to be able successful. The United States Air Force is very reliable and efficient tool against

The ability of the Air Force to engage globally, using both lethal and non–lethal means, is vital to
today's national security strategy of Engagement and Enlargement. At present, almost a quarter of
Air Force personnel are deployed overseas at any one time. That is a very difficult effort to
maintain. You must be decisive to sustain that mission as a nation. So you have to do your job very
well. We can give as an example of Desert Storm and Operation Iraq Freedom. In these operations
USAF served very well and accomplished so vital missions. Getting air superiority, close air support
to ground troops, communication control, and reconnaissance were the duties of USAF. USAF has a
precise technology to achieve war goals. PGM bombs and intelligent capability also gave
opportunity to hit time sensitive targets. So with less collateral damage objectives could be
achieved. To be able catch that mission objective airpower is the most appropriate tool; fast, flexible
and maneuverable. Those operations were extremely complicated and large–scale experiences.
Rapid power maneuvers, air superiority requirement and planning framework as a global power
complexity were tested in those operations. Strategic Airlift, Theater Airlift, Air Refueling, Air Force

Winston Churchill once said, "Not to have an adequate Air Force in the present state of the world is
to compromise the foundations of national freedom and independence" (Quotes about Everything).
In this sense, the military is important to America, especially the Air Force. The Air Force provides
security and safety to the people. Military lifestyles are usually not everybody's first choice in the
beginning. Particularly, the U.S. Air Force is not always is not always the first branch that comes to
mind when thinking of the future. Most of the time, people come to conclusion of enlisting in any
branch of the military because of an uncertainty of their future. "...I had no career or education

If an airman becomes disabled or unable to work due to an illness, they will continue to receive
benefits (Insurance). Not only is insurance helpful and important to many airmen, but so are
retirement plans. An airman can retire after twenty years in the service (Retirement). Unlike the Air
Force, civilians have to wait until a certain age which can range from sixty–two to seventy years,
which is actually considered an early retirement (Social Security). Insurance and retirement are the
most thought about when thinking about the future. The United States' Air Force provides a sense of
easiness in both areas of economic safety. Not only is money in the economy thought of by a person,
but they also think about strain on their mind and body. Stress is something that everyone comes
across in life. Many people have emotional issues with they stress levels on a day to day basis. Often
times, civilians worry easily about their work ad daily lives just as often as their money problems.
Airmen, on the other hand, take a test to see how well they would react to certain situations they are
in put in. TAPAS, or Tailored Adapted Personality Assessment System, tests how strong an
applicant's personality and leadership skills are. Taking personality tests can determine if the
military life style is fitted for the applicant, or if they can handle certain obstacles put in front of
them. Even then,

purpose and to be a part of something larger and more than myself. The first step to becoming a part

Essay about The United States Air Force
The United States Air Force This paper deals with the contributions of the United States Air Force to
the eventual victory of the Allies in Europe during World War II. The Allied powers had no idea how
important a strong air force would be against the Axis powers during World War II. The fact that
Hitler moved east in 1941 and had planned to do so since 1940, had important implications for the
British war effort. Though still powerless to prevent German initiatives from being successful in
Greece and Crete, the British government was given a long period during which to prepare adequate

Throughout 1941 the aid continued to expand." (Overy 60) Allied Military aircraft became more
sophisticated in variety, effectiveness in war situations, and special maneuvering techniques
throughout the course of World War II which in turn produced a victory for the Allied Nations over
the Axis Powers. Towards the beginning of the war the United States did not have an air force
compared to that of Germany and Japan. Knowing this fact the president of the United States
ordered manufacturers of fighter planes and long range bombers to start coming up with new
designs for longer range and for planes that were easier to fix. Having planes that did not take that
much knowledge of that specific model plane helped the United States at airfields located in the
middle of nowhere that only had a few knowledgeable mechanics. The first of these more modern
and advanced planes is the Grumman G–40 (TBF Avenger). The Avenger proved its worth at sea

The United States Air Force, USAF, was recognized on 18 September 1947. It was on this day that
air activities were reassigned from the United States Army. The mission of the USAF is to fly, fight,

Vigilance, Reach and Power. That vision circles around three core competencies: developing
Airmen, technology to war fighting and integrating operations. These core competencies make our
six distinct capabilities possible. The Public Health Technology, AFSC 4E0X1, career field is 1 of

The Public Health career field is typically a part of either the Aerospace Medicine Squadron or the
Aeromedical Dental Squadron belonging to the assigned medical group. The Public Health Flight is
comprised of at least one officer in charge (OIC), at least one senior non–commissioned officer
(SNCO), several non–commissioned officers (NCO/NCOIC), and several airmen. Within this flight
there are two elements: Community Health and Force Health Management and between the two
elements there are six different sections. Each of the six sections has a NCO that is responsible for
the daily oversight and operation. In addition, both of the elements have a NCO that is responsible
for the daily oversight and management of the sections assigned to their respective element. The
element NCOs report to the Flight Chief or Flight NCOIC, who in turn reports to the Flight OIC.
The organizational structure for an airman will differ dependent on the section in which they are

that has many different people in charge in such a small flight.

The United States Air Force Academy Essay
On Nov 2013, the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) awarded the contract to "modernize"
its existing custom developed application Cadet Administrative Management Information System
(CAMIS) II to the Solers Corporation (Solers Corporation, 2016). CAMIS was developed over
several years and began to encompass support for many disparate business processes at the
Academy, but primarily served as a Student Information/Management System. This modernization
effort or CAMIS III was the third iteration of moving CAMIS from a legacy system to a new
platform. Almost 2 years later: Mar 2016, this project ended with the government decision to
discontinue the modernization effort. This was done by primarily not exercising option years and
stopping funding on the modernization development line item of the contract. (Paulson, 2015)
Despite modernization effort ending, the government continued to support the CAMIS III operations
and support portion of the contract, as well as the legacy CAMIS II contract. This paper attempts to
analyze why this software project failed, based on the personal experiences and perspectives from
the overall combined team and attempts to understand why. The major reasons for failure included:
gross underestimates (scope, cost, and schedule). However, there were opportunities to achieve a

The United States Air Force Doctrine Essay
"In short, doctrine is what is officially approved to be taught. But is far more than just that. Doctrine
is the departure for virtually every activity in the air arm." – I. B. Holley, Jr.
Doctrine, is a thought that leads to best practice, this thought is flexible, takes the structure of air
power theorists and generates a focus from the tactical to the strategic. The doctrine of air force is of
vital importance because it represents the consolidation of air power theories and the variables that
affect the success of air power in relation to the technological possibilities and the strategy of the
nation. The development of the air force doctrine after 1947 represents the greatest impact on the
employment of American air power. Because, the United States Air Force doctrine changed its
perspective of the war and adapted to meet the challenges of the war in Korea. Additionally, the
adaptability of air power during the Vietnam War was indispensable to meet challenges due to the
technology gap and lack of training. Lastly, reconciling the doctrine of the Air Force with the other
services to work in a joint environment, and addressing the challenges of the future. Furthermore,
the bad perception of air power during the Vietnam War was due to several factors such as poor
organization, lack of a robust command and control structure, and lack of training planning.
Moreover, the theorists of air power of the interwar period over emphasized strategic bombing.

The Role Of Logistics Air Force ( Usaf ) Operations And By...
I. INTRODUCTION
Background The role of logistics in United States Air Force (USAF) operations and by extension
United States military operations cannot be underestimated nor undervalued. People of both
professional and academic backgrounds have spent considerable time studying and capturing the
relevant points of its application. While critical to almost all military units and corporations alike,
logistics in definition and application is not easily defined. It is an over–arching word covering
many disparate topics such as supply, sustainment, production, transportation, warehousing,
maintenance, planning, and others.
The USAF implements logistics at the tactical, operational and strategic levels with the Air Force
Materiel Command (AFMC) being its largest logistics focused organization. AFMC is home to
strategic organizations such as the Air Force Sustainment Center (AFSC) and the Air Force Life
Cycle Management Center. Organizations such as the 635th Supply Chain Operations Wing
(SCOW), logistics readiness squadrons and aerial port squadrons implement logistics at the USAF
operational and tactical level. AFMC and the agencies it commands are the USAF's primary
interfaces for both internal and external logistics support; it interfaces with suppliers such as the
Defense Logistics Agency and General Services Administration and vendors like Boeing,
Lockheed–Martin, and Kovach Mobile Equipment.
The USAF employs a significant number of Airmen, civilian, and

My Desire To Serve In The United States Air Force

  • 1. My Desire To Serve In The United States Air Force My desire to serve in the United States Air Force as a commissioned officer stems from the environment in which I grew up and an underlying, deep–rooted desire for public service. Many members of my family were privileged to serve in different capacities. In fact, I was able to obtain academic credentials because of their service. I feel that it is only right that I spend a portion of my life using the knowledge, skills, and abilities I have earned to serve my country in this capacity. Another reason that I am seeking a commission is that I desire an opportunity to prove myself at the highest level. In school, I have learned how to gather data and interpret it and I am confident that the technical skills I have developed will be up to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. United States Air Force Research Paper United States Air Force Research Report February 7, 2011 Executive Summary The United States Air Force has been able to carry on a great tradition of air supremacy and advanced technology. They were born in September 1947, when they separated from the Army Air Core, and became their own unit (www.peterson.af.mil). Providing for the troops that serve always has been a top priority of the Air Force. The Air Force is run in management form, just like any large organization, or small business. It has a rank structure, where tasks are delegated down from the ranking Officers through the Enlisted Core. After significant evaluation, I have researched and identified the following six categories necessary for the Air Force to preserve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Competition within the Air Force is similar to real–world businesses. Making rank equals more money and respect. In the Marines and the Army, it is much easier to make rank. To properly compete, the AF needs to recognize possible issues that may drive their hardworking employees to another branch, or even separate from the military entirely. Management understands that improvement on their employee's happiness is critical in completing the mission. The military members have no incentive to work harder besides fear of reprimand, or paperwork. The military has great job security; a person needs make a serious mistake to be discharged. Therefore, the AF understands they need to keep their people happy and take care of them so the mission can be delivered. Upper management needs to assert certain ways to collect data such as surveys, to see how they can help their troops. Anonymous surveys are important because they may lead to more honest answers discussing problems that they may not address otherwise (Cooper & Schindler, 2006). Another way to seek out possible issues is conduct focus groups. Conducting qualitative and quantitative research using focus groups could be insightful, gathering pertinent data from the people in each workplace (Cooper & Schindler, 2006). This research will lead to a better perception for what needs to be focused on the most. Action needs to be taken quickly by senior leadership so the workers see that they are not a low ... • 9. Pros And Cons Of The United States Air Force 1. The purpose of this paper is to represent the position on why the United States Air Force (USAF) should bring Warrant Officers (WO) back into service to fly unmanned aircraft. First, a positive of having WOs would be to quickly fill the current manning shortage in the Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) community because more Airmen would qualify only needing a two year degrees. However, the current solution is to push more cadets through Officer Training School (OTS) to fly RPAs. This will fix the manning shortage over time while also fitting the current USAF structure. On the other hand, another positive of WOs flying RPAs in the USAF would be saving money. After an overview, one has to understand the current demographics of the USAF. 2. Today, the USAF needs 200 more drone pilots to keep up with the current mission requirements.1 One area to pull the RPA pilots from is the enlisted corp. The USAF currently has 248,317 Enlisted, of that 25.1 percent have associate's degrees and only 8.5 percent have bachelor's degrees.2 Statistically the USAF has 16.6 percent more enlisted personnel with an associates degree than personnel with bachelors degrees. If the USAF allowed WOs with an associate's degree to fly RPAs, it would make an additional 41,220 enlisted personnel available to apply. Next, one needs to understand the current ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The current solution is to increase commissioning thought USAF OTS. In 2016, OTS is expected to admit 1,100 cadets into the USAF officer commissioning program.3 In comparison, OTS only accepted 550 cadets in 2015.4 This solution allows the USAF to keep the current command structure and invest little money and time in reorganizing new WO command structure. Also, field grade officers can fill other staff jobs, while WOs cannot. The USAF would save some money not changing the current manning structure. Also commissioned officers have more leadership training than a typical WO. Despite that, the USAF would save more accepting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. My Leadership Philosophy Of The United States Air Force The intention of this paper is to introduce my leadership philosophy. I will start off defining leadership as well as explaining my leadership philosophy. I will then share a summary of an interview with a Squadron Commander about a difficult situation that he needed to use his philosophy to work through and analyze how my philosophy applies to the same situation followed by a brief summary. There are numerous definitions of the word "leadership" and it can mean many things to many people. For the purpose of this assignment I feel the best definition of leadership is "...the art and science of motivating, influencing, and directing airmen to understand and accomplish the Air Force mission in joint warfare."1 When taking over a new command it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe without integrity as the cornerstone in building any relationships, higher levels of productivity cannot be obtained and ultimately with crumble. It is important for your people to trust that you have their interests and goals at heart while also laying out clear expectations early on in your command and trusting, yet verifying all parties are meeting expectations. Throughout my life and previous experiences I have witnessed firsthand how cohesive units are when these values are incorporated into leadership philosophies and have also seen how detrimental it is to the unit if they are not incorporated. An additional layer to integrity is that I would never ask of others what I would or could not do myself. Nothing will alienate a follower quicker than a leader who is unwilling to work as hard as or demonstrate that they are willing to get in the trenches with the people they are leading. For my interview, I interviewed a peer who is a squadron commander at Grand Forks Air Force Base, ND4. He stated his most challenging leadership issue came about early on in his command. Within the first six weeks of his command, seven of his Airmen failed their PT tests. One of these failures was an Airman facing a medical evaluation board due to several back surgeries. The commander states he was sympathetic to his situation but he had to remain tough since it was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Role of Culture and Leadership in the United States... The Role of Culture and Leadership in the United States Air Force Merriam Webster's dictionary defines culture as "the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an institution or organization" and leadership as "the act or an instance of leading." The United States Air Force, like any other large organization, relies on leadership at all levels to effectively operate its mission. Further, the United States Air Force since it's inception in 1947 has had a continuously evolving set of cultures unique to the organization. Joining these two concepts together has directly lead to the United States Air Force being held as the "Best Air Force in the World." The United States Air Force began developing its own ... From their rank within the organization via insignias, their functions via occupational badges to their past duty locations and accolades in the form of ribbons on their chest, just merely seeing the individual in uniform will tell you much about the person (Beyland, 2011). The United States Air Force's artifacts do not stop there, even something as simple as what colors building are painted is unique to the service. Regardless of location, most permanent building are painted a shade of brown colloquially known as "Creech brown" after General Wilbur Creech who first prescribed its use (McCarthy, 2007). Ceremonies and rituals (George & Jones, 2011) form the basis of every major event in an Air Force member's life. • 21. The Crash Of The United States Air Force Unfortunately, crashes and crises aren't a new things in today 's world. Far too often we have car crashes, boats sinking, car explosions, or bus crashes. Not too often do you hear about plane crashes, however, when you do it is fatal. One truly amazing plane crash involved two amazing pilots, birds, and one miracle landing on the Hudson. One captain of flight 1549 was captain Chesley Sullenberger, age of fifty eight at the time. Sullenberger was no rookie to flying he had been flying since 15 when he enlisted in flight lessons from a local pilot in his hometown. At the age of eighteen Sullenberger went on to become a fighter pilot for the United States Air Force, he spent the next ten years in the air force until being asked to be a pilot for U.S. Airways. Chesley logged a total of 20,000 hours of pilotry in his career and spent his free time learning and teaching pilots about flight safety and how to prepare for the worst. Chesley spent hours learning the anatomy of a plane, as well as various crashes and famous pilots learning exactly what needed to happen if such an occasion were to occur. Of course we all know that every crash is different and no matter how much you study you will never be truly prepared for such an event. Sullenberger has two daughters one of sixteen and the other of fourteen and a wife. Thursday morning, before the crash Sullenberger woke up early, he drove to San Francisco International Airport, he was to fly to Charlotte for a four day flight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. State of Purpose to Enter the Air Force Goal setting is vital to anyone with a mission. By having goals your capable of planning how your going to reach those goals you've set for yourself. My personal goals are to leave a legacy on my JROTC unit, increase my G.P.A and to become a general in the Air Force. My first goal is to be able to bring my G.P.A. up to at least a 3.8 before this school year ends. I want to do this because I want to be salutatorian of my graduating class. Since our G.P.As aren't that far apart I figured this is an attainable goal for me since I'm highly capable of increasing my grades dramatically by just Working hard in every class I have to receive straight As every quarter. So Far I have almost reached that goal I only received one B on my report card but I can still receive an A for the semester if I don't let my Grade drop below an A in that class. I want to achieve this goal because I would like to prove to everyone that ever doubted my intelligence that I have the capability to achieve success rather they are in my corner or not. Although I am number 3 at this point being number 2 would be my biggest under dog accomplishment of my high school career. The reason that I want to go t accomplish is to set the bar for my younger siblings behind me; to show them that it is possible to achieve greatness although we have been through hard times in our life. My next goal is to leave a lasting impression on my JROTC unit. In order to leave a legacy on my JROTC unit I'm going to have to do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. The United States Air Force 1. The United States Air Force is the dominant force in the world in terms of air power. The mission is to "Fly, fight and win in air, space and cyberspace." Currently, the Air Force accomplishes this mission well, taking to the sky and dominating both air and space with little opposition. However, the question remains whether the Air force can produce these same effects in the future. The purpose of this paper is to advocate that the United States Air Force is unprepared to remain the dominant airpower and should change their philosophy to better meet the demands of future conflicts. 2. A problem with the current United States Air Force philosophy is that it tends to favor efficiency over effectiveness.1 With an increasing need to streamline procedures, the Department of Defense claims it can operate more efficiently by reforming weapons acquisition with an emphasis on operating jointly and attacking redundancies among military services.2 The Air Force continues to decline in numbers and strength as the American perception of air threats decreases and the focus on land campaigns increase.3 This shift is best characterized by a quality over quantity mentality, upgrading the current fleet with new sensor suites, avionics and weapons.4 In terms of sustained deployments and wars of attrition, mass quantities of advanced aircraft and highly skilled personnel are needed to meet the demands of a worst–case scenario engagement. 3. To combat this problem, the Air Force should ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Employee Development In The United States Air Force Apart from leaders being aware of their employees' intrinsic values, they must be able to provide honest and valuable feedback. This can be done formally or informally. Continuous feedback may be more beneficial being that both parties are able to actively see growth, or the lack thereof, and if the developmental opportunities are valuable (Lerner, 2016). When doing feedback, or even determining which path to take, leaders must ensure the focus remains on the development of the employee versus doing it just to have someone else trained on a task that falls under that leader. Another factor to consider is leaders must ensure they are not biased to whom they want to provide developmental opportunities to. Showing preferential treatment to star performers over those who may be mediocre can portray a negative image to employees. Both could benefit from the opportunity and the ending results could ultimately strengthen the organization from within due to having a staff with increased aptitude which can lead to increased quality of results in the workplace (Vuta & Farcas, 2015). Example of Employee Development According to the Air Force Doctrine Document 1–1, force development incorporates a multitude of challenges and experiences combined with training and education opportunities that help develop Air Force leaders (Scheiner, 2006). Within the United States Air Force, individuals are provided skills needed to be an efficient Airman by being challenged physically and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The United States Air Force There are careers in this world in which people may be subjected to many different religions. I have been in the United States Air Force for seven years and have experienced religious differences on a daily basis. The Air Force makes it mandatory to receive training on equal opportunity and treating people with respect no matter what faith they may practice. Some of the training consists of computer based training and also face to face training on how to adapt to religious and cultural differences when representing the United States Air Force. In this career field you encounter differences in faith with your co–workers, supervisors and customers. You also have the possibility of being deployed to numerous countries around the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During my deployment I had to adapt to Islamic customs, courtesies and religious practices. I got the opportunity to visit a village and eat with some local villagers. According to Buzzle.com, "Dining in Afghanistan is a different experience and food is generally shared by everyone from the same dish. While eating it is customary to sit on the floor and eat with your hands. It is considered taboo to eat with your left hand and always leave something on your plate, or else it will get filled up quickly." I had no idea about these customs and courtesies and felt very out of place during lunch. The interpreter then explained to me that it is normal to eat from the same dish and that it is customary not to grab food with your left hand. Once I realized some of the customs and courtesies I had no problem adapting because I was in their place of residence and wanted to treat the Afghan villagers with respect. Overall, I found the lunch to be a very memorable event and realized that the Islamic religion can be very welcoming and respectful. I also had the opportunity to work hand in hand with some local villagers on construction projects. • 49. Airpower Impact On The United States Air Force From the early age of airpower development in the United States, airpower theorists, and advocates believed and prophesized, that airpower can win the war by itself. Turning back to the age prior to the independence of the United States Air Force (USAF) as a service, airpower advocates emphasized that bomber will always get through and that it will produce decisive blow to the enemy and win the war. Moreover, they argued that airpower alone could win the war quickly without the need to employ other services, that it is cheaper because bombers replace large force employment costs and precisely hitting only important targets avoids collateral damage. That promise of the early airpower advocates continued to be the core belief of the new independent United States Air Force after 1947. Looking its promise over the past 70 years the airpower gradually advanced toward its fulfillment and with rapid technology advances, that the USAF is highly dependent on, airpower finally achieved its promise. The airpower proved to end wars more quickly and save lives of solders, to cost less in order to achieve military and political objectives, and to avoid collateral damage with its precision capabilities. Nevertheless, implications of achievement of promise can be that airpower can be used as a mean of political objectives that can severely limit or misuse airpower's capabilities. Imagine flying all around the world and meeting so many varieties of people, seeing lots of different cultures. (Lieutenant Colonel Jerry Quincy) Although the USAFA has its disadvantages, it teaches future service men and women many qualities that they can use in their lives. It also shapes these cadets for the military by teaching them discipline, responsibility, and good work ethic. The United States Air Force Academy is a campus located in Colorado where future service men and women go to school to gain knowledge and experience before committing to the Air Force. • 57. The History of the United States Air Force Essay The United States Air Force is a dedicated and effective establishment, and has been a great advantage in protecting the United States during numerous wars. It all started on August 1, 1907, General James Allen, Cheif Signal Officer or the U.S Army created and established the Aeronautical Division. He entrusted this organization with "All matters pertaining to military ballooning air machines and related subjects." (Creation) Allen then put in command, Captain Charles D. Chander who was assisted by two enlisted men. The Aeronautical Division is the very beginning of todays U.S Airforce. Then, nearly one and a half years later, the Army reorganization act of 1920 made the Air Services into a combatant arm of the military. A few years later, the Air Corps act of 1926 replaced the Army Air Service with the Army Air Force. In September of 939, when World War II was put into motion, the Air Corps began to steadily develop. A few years later, on June 20,1941, the Departent of War formed the Army Air Forces as it's aviation sector. Soon after, it was made equivalent to the army's ground forces and the Air Corps remained one of the Army's combat arms, like infantry. When the surprise attack on Hawaii took place, the development of the Army Air Forces oversaw the assembly of the nation's aviation manufactury and establishment of the largest air armada of all time. By this time, the Army Air Forces was the strongest they had ever been with 80,000 aircraft and 2.4 million personnel divided into different commands, divisions, and groups. But after the conclusion of WWI, the US demobilized it's armed forces right away. (Missions) Because of the Army Air Forces wartime achievments and future potential, the AAF expanded and from then on it was called The United States Air Force. This new name brought independence as a full partner with the army and the navy. This paper will advocate why the United States Air Force is prepared to remain the dominant air force of the future due to the capabilities of the F–35. It will discuss the Air Force's aging fourth–generation fighters and the need for something new, followed by the argument of why the capabilities of fourth–generation aircraft are viewed as better than the F–35. Finally, this paper will argue why the F–35 is the plane that will make the Air Force the dominant air power of the future. 2. The main argument made against the F–35 is comparing the aircraft to current fourth– generation platforms in the United States Air Force that have niche roles. The A–10 and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The future of air combat does not lie within how many ordinances a plane can carry, the size of its gun, or the amount of time it can stay in the air; but rather how quickly, easily and precisely it can accomplish these tasks. The F–35 has automated systems that allow the pilot to concentrate on mission planning, while the very low–observable (VLO) stealth technology allows the plane to enter the combat zone undetected and take out the enemy's ground fortifications.11 While the A–10 can only fly in uncontested environments and the F–16 is easily captured on enemy radars, the F–35 can fly in undetected using VLO and drop fifth–generation ordinances with remarkable accuracy. Furthermore, when the major ground threats have been eliminated, the F–35 is capable of putting on exterior armaments including an additional Gatling gun for close–air support and a mixture of air– to–ground and air–to–air ordinances.12 Dave Deptula, the head of the Air Force Association's Mitchell Institute, stated "fifth–generation aircraft are not 'fighters', they are 'sensor–shooters' optimized for different threat regimes, and can perform the roles of "F," "B," "A," "RC," "E," "EA" and AWACS aircraft of the past."13 The F–35 is the future of the United States Air Force. 5. This essay will introduce you to my personal command philosophy. It will also summarize and analyze a brief interview recently conducted with a current squadron commander using my own leadership philosophy as a guide. Throughout this essay I will draw upon my own personal experiences and thoughts, lessons discussed throughout the Leadership and Command Course, as well the discussion with a current squadron commander. Leadership and command styles come in many different forms and there is not necessarily a correct or incorrect way to lead depending on your organization or current turn of events. This essay is simply my thoughts after being in the Air Force for the last eleven years. Until being assigned this essay I do not believe I outright thought about having an actual command philosophy. However, there have been many moments throughout my career when I would think to myself, "If I am ever in command I will never do that to my Airmen" or the opposite, "That is the kind of commander or leader I want to be someday." I believe most people in the Air Force can definitely relate to those sentiments and draw upon those experiences to define their own command and leadership styles. To answer the group commander 's question of what is a concise description for my leadership style it would be mission first, people always, and command by example. The Performance Report Of The United States Air Force How much effort would the average employee put in at work if they quality and quantity of work produced, did not have any effect on their annual performance report? Most workers would do the minimum, because there are no incentives to exceed the standard. How can the senior leaders effectively differentiate between employees, to ensure that the correct individuals are being promoted when all the employees receive the highest ratings on their annual performance reports? This is one of the problems with the current performance reports in the United States Air Force today. This paper will begin with a brief background on the current performance report issues, the new performance report, and the effect on the individual perceptions. The paper will continue with how the group is using communication to influence, and finally, how a change in culture is needed for the new system to work. The United States Air Force has been using the same basic process for performance reports and promotions, with only a few minor changes since their inception 45 years ago. With the manning in the Air Force being the smallest it has been since it's inception in 1947, the senior leaders want to ensure they are promoting the best performers (Harper, 2014). Since military leaders can give orders that could mean an individuals death and is a hierarchy, it is very important that a leader be the most qualified person in technical and leadership ability. • 73. Overview of the United States Air Force Art Collection The conditions of war are rather difficult and require a great deal of concentration and determination. This is one of the reasons for which the United States Army has developed several mechanisms through which its soldiers and recruits can ensure a wider variety of recreational activities that drive them away from the stress of everyday assignments. These include art and music, which are essential for relieving some of the pressures that soldiers face in their duty. There have been numerous attempts through which aspects such as art and music have come to be connected with war–like conditions and that have determined an improved state of mind of the soldiers. At the same time however, there is a constant need to further contemplate the activities undergone by soldiers through different manifestation of recreational endeavors that include, among others, art and music. The United States Air Force has provided the necessary background to encourage the establishment and further development of an artistic view on the activities undergone by its members through the US Air Force Art program. During the Cold War Era, the United States Air Force assumed control of the Strategic Air Command(SAC), which controlled America's airborne strategic forces which were the B–29 bomber (Martin, 2015). During 1940, 1950 and,1960 the Bomber Mafia generals gave way to the Fighter Mafia of the 1970's and the 1980's that had a different mindset that had infiltrated the United States Air Force (Martin, 2015). The United Air Force had to be ready at any given moment to use its nuclear arsenal power, due to the events that were taking place in Europe, due to the Soviet Union and, the Middle East (Martin, 2015). Also, SAC had to be ready to respond to the actions of the Union of Soviet Socialists Republics (USSR) overseas as well, due the Soviet Union becoming the second nuclear power in the world (Martin, 2015). The United States Air Force dedicated its brainpower analysis, and ability towards understanding the USSR (Martin, 2015). My earliest memories are of butchering hogs on the farm, loading all the meat into huge coolers in the back of my mom's truck to give away to the families of the disabled children she cared for. When I was 15 I started volunteering in a local nursing home and my senior year of high school I took half days so I could start pursuing a nursing degree through the local community college. So it seemed only natural that I continued the tradition of service before self by joining the United States Air Force. I can't even express how much I loved my job and I was good at it. I truly thought I had found my path. So it was like mourning a death when an adverse reaction to a vaccine left me with a rare disorder, a pacemaker and a medical retirement. The loss of my career, the demise of my health and the havoc both wrought on my life led me down a dark road. It wasn't until I realized that the silver lining in the situation was having the freedom and financial independence to spend my time finding ways to help other people. If anything helping other people became my salvation and my sanity. So when I ran across this contest I couldn't help but think how incredibly well timed it was as Virginia is exactly the place I had planned on moving back to in 2.5 years when the love of my life's military career finally came to a close. Planning is the deliberate act of establishing goals, and formulating a game plan in order to accomplish a long term end state. This process is done by leaders at the strategic, tactical and operational levels. "Strategic planning is a management tool. It is used for the purpose helping an organization do a better job – to focus its energy, to ensure that members of the organization are working toward the same goals, to assess and adjust the organization 's direction in response to a changing environment. In short, strategic planning is a disciplined effort to produce fundamental decisions and actions that shape and guide what an organization is, what it does, and why it does it, with a focus on the future." The nine years I served in the Air Force afforded me the opportunity to work and train alongside other branches of US and their allies fighting forces which permitted me to observe each branch and their personnel management and now time to reflect on it. The Public Health Flight is comprised of at least one officer in charge (OIC), at least one senior non–commissioned officer (SNCO), several non–commissioned officers (NCO/NCOIC), and several airmen. Within this flight there are two elements: Community Health and Force Health Management and between the two elements there are six different sections. Each of the six sections has a NCO that is responsible for the daily oversight and operation. In addition, both of the elements have a NCO that is responsible for the daily oversight and management of the sections assigned to their respective element. The element NCOs report to the Flight Chief or Flight NCOIC, who in turn reports to the Flight OIC. The organizational structure for an airman will differ dependent on the section in which they are assigned. As one can imagine, there is a lot of room for miscommunication within an organization that has many different people in charge in such a small flight. Outside of the flight, the organizational chain continues to grow. The Flight Commander reports to the Squadron Commander. As I previously mentioned, the Public Health Flight is assigned to one of two squadrons. Within either of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United States Air Force Academy Essay On Nov 2013, the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) awarded the contract to "modernize" its existing custom developed application Cadet Administrative Management Information System (CAMIS) II to the Solers Corporation (Solers Corporation, 2016). CAMIS was developed over several years and began to encompass support for many disparate business processes at the Academy, but primarily served as a Student Information/Management System. This modernization effort or CAMIS III was the third iteration of moving CAMIS from a legacy system to a new platform. Almost 2 years later: Mar 2016, this project ended with the government decision to discontinue the modernization effort. This was done by primarily not exercising option years and stopping funding on the modernization development line item of the contract. (Paulson, 2015) Despite modernization effort ending, the government continued to support the CAMIS III operations and support portion of the contract, as well as the legacy CAMIS II contract. This paper attempts to analyze why this software project failed, based on the personal experiences and perspectives from the overall combined team and attempts to understand why. The major reasons for failure included: gross underestimates (scope, cost, and schedule). However, there were opportunities to achieve a better outcome. These opportunities were failures by the program manager, vendor team, and management stakeholder expectations. "No one starts a war––or rather, no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 149. The United States Air Force Doctrine Essay "In short, doctrine is what is officially approved to be taught. But is far more than just that. Doctrine is the departure for virtually every activity in the air arm." – I. B. Holley, Jr. Doctrine, is a thought that leads to best practice, this thought is flexible, takes the structure of air power theorists and generates a focus from the tactical to the strategic. The doctrine of air force is of vital importance because it represents the consolidation of air power theories and the variables that affect the success of air power in relation to the technological possibilities and the strategy of the nation. The development of the air force doctrine after 1947 represents the greatest impact on the employment of American air power. Because, the United States Air Force doctrine changed its perspective of the war and adapted to meet the challenges of the war in Korea. Additionally, the adaptability of air power during the Vietnam War was indispensable to meet challenges due to the technology gap and lack of training. Lastly, reconciling the doctrine of the Air Force with the other services to work in a joint environment, and addressing the challenges of the future. • 153. The Role Of Logistics Air Force ( Usaf ) Operations And By... I. INTRODUCTION Background The role of logistics in United States Air Force (USAF) operations and by extension United States military operations cannot be underestimated nor undervalued. People of both professional and academic backgrounds have spent considerable time studying and capturing the relevant points of its application. While critical to almost all military units and corporations alike, logistics in definition and application is not easily defined. It is an over–arching word covering many disparate topics such as supply, sustainment, production, transportation, warehousing, maintenance, planning, and others. The USAF implements logistics at the tactical, operational and strategic levels with the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) being its largest logistics focused organization. AFMC is home to strategic organizations such as the Air Force Sustainment Center (AFSC) and the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center. Organizations such as the 635th Supply Chain Operations Wing (SCOW), logistics readiness squadrons and aerial port squadrons implement logistics at the USAF operational and tactical level. AFMC and the agencies it commands are the USAF's primary interfaces for both internal and external logistics support; it interfaces with suppliers such as the Defense Logistics Agency and General Services Administration and vendors like Boeing, Lockheed–Martin, and Kovach Mobile Equipment. The USAF employs a significant number of Airmen, civilian, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
