Being involved with the daily activities to keep www.TheosBookshelf.com updated and running smoothly, we often connect with many parents with the self-publishing spirit.
Many do not want to share profits going the traditional route of publishing, and many just simply want to direct their own ship and write their own checks. But also... many of those same people don't know where to start, or where to go from where they are currently at. Are we speaking to you?
Today we have compiled a list of resources and suggestions in relation to self-publishing children's books, and shared them throughout these slides.
What you will discover is that there are a variety of solutions available to assist self-publishers of children's books. Everything from creation tips, talent discovery, and distribution & marketing resources, and all that is in between can be found when following along the mini-web that we created in today's resource.
We sure hope that it is valuable to your journey!
2. 1. Edit, edit, edit again
Is your book ready for publishing?
Barb Nefer (@themeparkwriter), a contributor at eHow
offers this suggestion:
"Read it to children in your target age range, and make
changes based on their reactions."

3. 2. Get quality binding
Poor binding results in a poor product.
David K. Israel, self-publishing father of Smart Aleck
suggests that quality binding is an important factor to
consider when choosing a printing company for your book.

4. 3. Get Funding
Consider crowd-funding to help with publishing costs.
An article on WikiHow.com suggests to seek funding for
your project. There can be costs associated with
illustrating, printing, and promotion. Crowd funding sites
like Kickstarter can provide the needed startup and
marketing dollars.

5. 4. Print on Demand
Avoid printing costs by printing on demand.
Using services like Amazon's Create Space can provide an
affordable or free way to get books into the hands of your
readers by not having to print in bulk. Printing happens
only when sales are made.
6. 5. Go Beyond Bookstores
Get your books discovered... anywhere you can.
Darcy Pattison, long time self-publisher of children's titles
offers that "you must go anywhere and everywhere
necessary to sell books", and continues that "bookstores
are only one sales channel."

7. 6. Try Different Formats
From digital to hard cover and soft cover and more.
Many authors put their books through: print on demand
services with hard and soft cover options, eBook or PDF
formats on their own sites, other eBook formats for
distribution through sites like Barnes & Noble, Lulu,
Amazon Kindle, and more.
Some are also offering audio and video versions!
8. 7. Get Reviewed
People trust other people's opinions.
Positive reviews on web sites that sell your products can
encourage more sales. Positive reviews on sites like
www.TheosBookshelf.com can encourage exposure.
