3. 3. Coordinate System <ul><li>A coordinate system is used to locate points. It can also be called a Cartesian system or coordinate plane . </li></ul><ul><li>The coordinate system is formed by two number lines that meet at right angles at their zero points. </li></ul>x -axis y -axis origin

Ordered Pairs <ul><li>The first number is called the x -coordinate . </li></ul>x -axis y -axis ( x , y ) A ( 3 , 6) ( x , y ) A (3, 6 ) ( x , y ) A (3, 6) <ul><li>An ordered pair is used to locate any point on a coordinate plane. </li></ul><ul><li>The second number is called the y -coordinate . </li></ul>A
