  1. 1. How AMajorBeverageDistributorLeveragedMobileTechnology toGain aCompetitiveEdgeTo learn more about retail inteligence on demand, contact sales-team@surveyanalytics.com or call1-800-326-5570.An international leader in the manufacture, marketing, and distribution of alcoholic beverages is leveragingmobile technology to gain a competitive edge using theSurveyPocket tablet and smartphone app from SurveyAnalytics.Previously, the distributor had provided paper andpencil questionnaires for their representatives to fillout in-store, in order to collect information about theway their products are presented in the retailenvironment. However, there are many drawbacks to paperquestionnaires - most importantly, it takes a long timeto get the information to decision-makers.The distributor approached Survey Analytics aboutusing the companys mobile field data collectionapplication, SurveyPocket, to collect competitiveintelligence.A critical differentiator was SurveyPockets native barcode scanner.SurveyPockets barcode scanner is dynamicallyconnected to the Universal Product Code (UPC) barcode database. For the distributor, Survey Analytics built andintegrated a proprietary bar code database of itsproducts.Today, the distributors representatives use theirmobile devices to collect a vast amount of informationduring their in-store visits, including bar code scans oftheir own and competitive products. They take photos and videos, and they answerquestions about the store and the placement ofproducts. The retail intelligence collected by distributionrepresentatives on smartphones and tablet devices issynced securely to a centralized database for analysis. This near real-time information gives the distributor acompetitive advantage in the beverage marketplace.
