4. • Textbook: None (lecture materials from open
sources will be distributed)
• References: Research papers from top
journals/conferences will be distributed in the
class for references. Each student will select
two papers in a similar area for study. A paper
study report is required.
• Prerequisites: Knowledge of Programming
5. • Grading:
– Team Project 50% (programming project)
• Two students in a group
• Project proposal presentation (10%)
• Project in-class demonstration (20%)
• Project written report (20%)
– Paper study presentation 10% (per person)
– Paper study report 20% (per person)
– Quizzes 20% (per person)
• Late Penalties: Reports are due at the beginning of
the specified class time. For each day late, 10% of the
total graded points will be deducted. No work will be
accepted after two days late.
6. • Objectives:
– Distance Learning is considered as an application of
Information Engineering and Computer Science,
especially in the areas of multimedia presentations
and communications. This course is designed for
students with a background in Computer
Engineering (i.e., from CSIE or CS department).
Students are expected to learn knowledge of how to
develop distance learning software systems, as well
as to understand basic pedagogical issues for the
usability of these systems.
