1. Introduction begins with a close up of the
artist playing piano, places the character
in a friendly environment for her to play.
Close up of artists pinpoints the main
character, black clothing similar to Emilie
Sande’s style also making my character
mysterious and keeping to herself.
Black clothing and nails represent a dark
side to the character this relates to how
she keeps to herself. She continues to
play the introduction till the sound of the
piano fades.
2. Hand reaches towards camera to
receive phone, Insert a long
distance shot of character walking
out of house
Close up as main chorus plays,
character sings these lyrics
confronting the meaning of loyalty.
Behind the shoulder shot of
character reading the message,
brand of phone highlighted
relates to advertisement.
3. Side on shot while lyrics are sung
the empty space to her side
represents how she is alone this
theme is focussed on later in the
video. The dark tones in frame
shows her dark thoughts.
Extreme close up of her
response relates to why she is
outside.
Mid shot of her singing lyrics “I can’t
grant you any wishes I can’t promise
you the stars” looks away from
camera showing she is in her own
world.
4. Long shot main character walks
towards camera, footage adjusted to
be slightly overexposed to show the
narrative is from her memories.
First shot of male character by
himself , camera positioned above to
look down on him. Wears similar
style of clothing to female character
represents they are the same.
Behind the shoulder shot from male
characters position this is to place
the two characters in the same frame
for the first time. Male character
moves out of the frame to greet her.
5. A close friendship is shown as they
hug this is to show the two have a
strong friendship this is in relation to
the meaning of the song.
The two characters return to the
bench to talk, the narrative story
begins relating more to the song.
From this shot we see the two play and
enjoy each others company this creates a
more lightened mood in comparison to
their previous facial expressions, the
audience are meant to assume from this
point the two characters are more than
friends a closer relationship is present.
6. Narrative story line is shortened and
shots of the female character
performing the song increase this is
to put emphasis on the lyrics making
the meaning stand out.
Long shots of the two running towards
the swings. Camera place in between
the swings to vary the angles and
creates a playful image similar to the
original music video. I have kept with the
setting of a play area as it is significant
location for friends to meet.
Return to female camera pans
around her she shows no attention
towards the camera avoiding
contact.
7. Camera to be placed around the front
of the characters as the audience can
see them talking, the characters smile
and laugh representing the fact they
are close.
Dark tones brought back represents the
present only the female character is in
focus as she is left alone on the swing
shows how the memories are recent.
Male character reaches for his
phone and leaves the female
character, camera follows his
movement as he walks past the lens
into the distance.
8. Cuts back to female character singing
the last verse of the song with cut
scenes of the male character meeting
another female.
The audience witness a twist as the male
character is with a different female leaving
his friend behind the assumption that the
two main characters are a couple is proven
wrong.
Main female character looks on as the male
character walks away. From this point the
audience will begin to understand the lyrics
and the message. Finally female character
looks straight into camera for the first time.
Shows how she is alone this relates to the
beginning of the video.
