2. Introduction
O IoT is emerging as the next technology mega-trend, with
repercussions across the business spectrum by connecting to the
Internet billions of everyday devices – ranging from fitness
bracelets to industrial equipment – the IoT merges the physical
and online worlds with the help of unique identifiers(IP address).
O The emergence of IPv6 with increased address space as
compared to IPv4 is the important factor in the development of
IoT.
O Things, in the IoT, can refer to a wide variety of devices such as
heart monitoring implants, biochip transponders on farm animals,
automobiles with built-in sensors, or field operation devices that
assist fire-fighters in search and rescue. These devices collect
useful data with the help of various existing technologies and
then autonomously flow the data between other devices.
O So far, the IoT has been most closely associated with machine-
to-machine (M2M) communication in manufacturing and power,
oil and gas utilities.
3. Application
O Environmental monitoring:
These applications utilize sensors to assist in environmental protection
by monitoring air or water quality, atmospheric or soil conditions,
movements of wildlife and their habitats.
O Infrastructure monitoring:
Monitoring and controlling operations of urban and rural infrastructures
like bridges, railway tracks, on- and offshore- wind-farms is a key
application of the IoT.
O Manufacturing:
The IoT intelligent systems enable rapid manufacturing of new products,
dynamic response to product demands, and real-time optimization of
manufacturing production and supply chain networks, by networking
machinery, sensors and control systems together.
O Medical Systems:
IoT devices can be used to enable remote health monitoring and
emergency notification systems. It can range from blood pressure and
heart rate monitors to advanced devices capable of monitoring
specialized implants, such as pacemakers or advanced hearing aids.
4. Trends
O Intelligence:
Embedded intelligence presents an "AI-oriented" perspective
of Internet of Things, which can be more clearly defined as:
leveraging the capacity to collect and analyze the digital
traces left by people when interacting with widely deployed
smart things to discover the knowledge about human life,
environment interaction, as well as social inter connection and
related behaviors.
It is the application of IoT which will have a great impact in near
future.
O Daily Routine:
Current market include smart thermostat systems and
washer/dryers that utilize Wi-Fi for remote monitoring.
O Medical :
blood pressure and heart rate monitors
5. Interest Areas
O The area of my interest is intelligence.
My perspective of innovating in this area is to
incorporate it into daily lives of common people.
O Eg: I want to make an application that allows my
pc/television to receive my voice commands
and take actions accordingly,
O If given internship I would like to work on the
application that allows my pc/ television to
receive my voice command and take actions
accordingly.
