About the workshop host
Bradley Jay Strawser is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy
in the Defense Analysis Department at the Naval
Postgraduate School and a Research Associate with
Oxford University’s Institute for Ethics, Law, and Armed
Conflict. Dr. Strawser taught previously at the University of
Connecticut and the US Air Force Academy, and he
served as a Resident Research Fellow at the Admiral
James B. Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership. He has
written on the ethics of war, just war theory, and related
themes in military ethics. He has also published in
metaphysics, ancient philosophy, and political
philosophy. His work has appeared in such peer-reviewed
journals as Analysis, Philosophia, Journal of Military Ethics,
Public Affairs Quarterly, Epoché, and the Journal of
Human Rights, among others. He has also been featured
in several popular media outlets such as the New York
Times, the Wall Street Journal, the UK Guardian, National
Public Radio, and the BBC World Service, on such topics
as the ethics of cyber warfare and unmanned aerial
vehicles. He recently published Killing By Remote Control:
The Ethics of an Unmanned Military (Oxford University
Press, 2012), a collected volume on the moral questions
surrounding the use of UAVs. He is currently working on a
manuscript defending revisionist just war theory.

Substitutions/Name Changes: If you are unable to attend you may nominate, in writing, another
delegate to take your place at any time prior to the start of the event. Two or more delegates may
not ‘share’ a place at an event. Please make separate bookings for each delegate.
Cancellation: If you wish to cancel your attendance at an event and you are unable to send a
substitute, then we will refund/credit 50% of the due fee less a £50 administration charge, providing
