Primal Water Roman Culture
Many cultures have myths as to how mankind were created, and how their destruction came about,
which led to a more pious and religious humankind being created. The use of water plays a major
role in the creation and destruction myth in both Roman cultures, and Christianity, which share
many similarities and some differences. The use of water in creation and destruction myths
demonstrates that primal water is a significant force towards both the creation and renewal of
mankind, to a race better accepted by the gods. This is particularly true to the Roman culture were
the creation and destruction of man, integrated water.
The Roman gods created mankind because they believed the world was missing something.

This is a comparison to how rain and water is required on earth for things to grow. Similar to
plants, people sprouted from the ground and were nourished by water. In addition, water in
nature is seen as a destructive force, floods, hurricanes, torrential downpour, and the open ocean
can lead to the destruction of towns, crops, ships, and people. After the destruction, the
rejuvenation of the land occurs and thus the ability to create and grow new things. Another
reason why rain might have been used as a force of obliteration instead of fire, is because in
Roman mythology fire is the apocalyptic force that will end the world, and all its people for
eternity. It is prophesied that mankind as well as the world will end by fire. Furthermore,
according to some Christian mythology, the world will also end in flames. Making water an
important tool of destruction because it removed the current group of mankind, but it is also a
form of life giving, and renewal. It renews the world and its inhabitants to its original purpose
which was to worship the

Happiness Vs Happiness
Happiness is an emotion that many individuals try to search for throughout their lives, whereas
people view happiness as an essential factor in living a quality life. All over the world, there are
individuals who believe that they can find true joy through distancing oneself from social
interactions and by living life independently. Many believe that this is true because you are
allowed to make your own choices when living independently. When we are independent, we tend
to make choices that surround ourselves. In addition, the choices that we make as independent
individuals tends to be selfish and egocentric. To this, these choices are selfish because we are
independent and only worry about our own selves. Although living life independently may seem as
a road to happiness, it is not the way to live. An individual should live life compassionately and
surround themselves with people they cherish. To live life compassionately, we should be
understanding of other individual s and show empathy. Each and every individual experiences
different upbringings that make us unique. Often when we re uncompassionate, we tend to
misunderstand other individuals because we hold them up to our own moral standards. Whenever
you feel like criticizing anyone.... remember that all the people in this world haven t had the
advantages that you ve had (Fitzgerald 1). Without compassion, we are quick to assume and judge
other individuals, whereas we only think of ourselves. When being consumed with our own
thoughts and own well being, we become self centered individuals with our default settings on. In
This Is Water, Wallace defines these default settings as the, unconscious belief that I am the center
of the world and that my immediate needs... determine the world s priorities (Wallace 236).
Contrary to the thoughts of self centered individuals, we are not the center of the world. As
individuals that live in a world with an abundant amount of other individuals, it s essential to not
maintain an aura of selfishness.
While it is true that living compassionately isn t always easy, a compassionate lifestyle is still
essential to develop a kindhearted character. Those who oppose a life of compassion may argue
that to feel emotion and

Smoking And Drinking While Pregnant
Smoking and drinking not only damages the user s body, but also causes mental and physical
deformities of the fetus. Drinking alcohol and smoking while pregnant leads to brain damage and
birth deformities of the newborn child. The chance of miscarriage increase along with the
possibility of the baby being born early. A premature birth results in delayed comprehension,
behavior problems, and lung deformities. Specifically, drinking while pregnant leads to growth
problems and spinal damage to the infant. In the long term the individual will need countless
surgeries, braces, and pain medications. Some research has shown that expectant moms who have
as little as one drink a week are more likely than nondrinkers to have children who later exhibit
aggressive and delinquent behavior.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This coverage is best if a family prefers the convenience and predictability of copayments for
routine health care expenses. In addition, it covers families with young children that have regularly
scheduled doctor visits and want copayment benefits.
The Health Savings Account combines a lower cost, high deductible health insurance plan with a
tax favored savings account. HSAs allow you to deposit the money an insurer saves on
premiums into a tax favored HSA, subject to federal limits. The individual uses these savings to
pay qualified health care expenses until the out of pocket maximum is met, then insurance starts
to pay the covered health care costs, once the deductible is met. Any leftover savings roll over
year after year and continues to earn interest. This is a good insurance option if a person wants
more control over how their health care dollars are spent, it has lower monthly premiums and it is a
tax savings.
High Deductible or Traditional insurance is a more economical way to help protect a person s
health. This is a preferred option for those that prefer to pay a higher deductible, understanding that
subsequent covered expenses are paid by the insurance plan. With this plan, the deductible is
higher, but the premium is lower. The individual is responsible to cover minor or routine health
care expenses until the calendar year deductible is met; once it has been met the

How Does Norman Bates Relate To Psychology
Alfred Hitchcock s original contemporary film Psycho shocks the conservative audiences of the
1960s era by delving into the demented intricacies of Norman Bates mind, and questioning the
façade of normality that society expects of us. Sigmund Freud s Psychoanalytical lens allows the
audience to expound Bate s unhinged character and to bring some meaning to the pure
psychoticism of his actions.
Hitchcock s manic antagonist Norman Bates disturbing behaviour can be scrutinised using Sigmund
Freud s psychoanalytical perspective; thus perusing the motives behind his horrifying matricide and
subsequential murders. Bates childlike disposition throughout the film, seen through his poor social
skills, stutter and obsessive candy chewing could be

The Law Of The Sea
What do you understand by the Law of the Sea in Public International Law? Critically discuss the
different principles, mechanisms of the Law of the Sea, and how they are applied.
Law of the Sea
The seas have long standing recognition as routes linking all parts of the world and as a treasure
full of resources. This has given significant rise to established rules. The Law of the Sea central
principle is that Land rules over the Sea. A state will have the right on the sea, until a certain
distance, according to the parameters of its land territory. This will be the territorial sea which
forms part of a state s area subject to its authority, and any further range will be the high sea. The
high seas were not to be appropriated. International law made the high seas one of its main
principle. States have been demanding to extend the perimeter of the sea around their coasts to get
more of the seas under their jurisdiction. Under these demands, developments in International law
have brought about extended zones known as contiguous zone, continental shelf, exclusive
economic zone etc. The Law of the sea will govern these characterised zones and see if a state
should be entitled to such territorial sea extensions. The change of perception of states towards the
seas have led to each state having their own principles which gave rise to clashing principles, this
has led to conferences to find a solution to the problem. The conferences eventually led to four
conventions on the law of

George Herbert Walker Bush and George Walker Bush Essay
Like Father Like Son George Herbert Walker Bush and George Walker Bush
Although all individuals are unique no matter how closely related they might be, sometimes their
similarities over shadow their differences, and yield a very interesting combination of events that
almost have a deja vu effect on its audience. The Bush family serves as the perfect illustration for
this phenomenon. From their family history and business life, to their life as the Presidents of the
United States, Bush Senior and Junior have led quite parallel lives. The thesis seems to be more
complex than this.

eventually led him to buy the Texas Rangers Baseball franchise with a group of friends in 1989.
He married Laura Welch and had twin daughters, Barbara and Jenna. On November 8, 1994 he
was elected Governor of Texas with 53.5% of the votes. He became the first governor of Texas to

The Effects Of Reading On Reading For Pleasure
Forced/required/assigned reading has a significant effect on all students. Forced reading is reading
assigned by school teachers to students who will eventually be tested over the plot, characters,
themes and/or other details in the book. Many students don t realize that required reading is much
different than readingfor pleasure. Testing over assigned readingrequires a student to pay attention
to several small details that would otherwise be overlooked if they were reading on their own.
Although it is required reading, many students find ways around it by searching the internet for
Sparknotes, Cliff Notes, plot summaries, character lists, etc. to give them an overview of the bookto
excel on the tests they are given. Required reading can have an effect on a person s idea of reading
for pleasure for the rest of their life. So, how does assigned reading affect a student s view on
reading for pleasure both positively and negatively?
Although almost all students despise assigned reading, it can have significant positive outcomes.
There are so many other forms of entertainment that have become more popular in today s world,
such as video games, movies, athletic event and social media. With this in mind, forced reading
can be positive, because most students would never have the motivation to pick up a book,
magazine article, newspaper, etc. on their own time if they did not have assigned reading for
school. It exposes some of these students to reading that would otherwise

Henri Mintzbergs Model On Organizational Structures
Mintzbergs Model on Organisational Structures
The Five Parts
This note summarises the key features of Henri Mintzbergs theory on the structuring of
organisations, which he presented in his book The Structuring of Organisations and Structure in 5
s: Designing Effective Organizations in the early 1980s.
According to Mintzberg organisations are formed of five main parts:
Operating core
Those who perform the basic work related directly to the production of products and services
Strategic apex
Charged with ensuring that the organisation serve its mission in an effective way, and also that it

Machine bureaucracy type structures are performance organizations not problem solving ones.
Professional Bureaucracy
The professional bureaucracy relies for coordination on: * the standardization of skills and its
associated parameters such as design, training and indoctrination. * In professional bureaucracy
type structures duly trained and indoctrinated specialists professionals are hired for the operating
core, and then considerable control over their work is given to them. * Most of the necessary
coordination between the operating professionals is handled by the standardization of skills and
knowledge especially by what they have learned to expect from their colleagues.
Whereas the machine bureaucracy generates its own standards the standards of the professional
bureaucracy originate largely outside its own structure (especially in the self governing association
its operators join with their colleagues from other professional bureaucracies). The professional
bureaucracy emphasizes authority of a professional nature or in other words the power of expertise .
The strategies of the professional bureaucracy are mainly developed by the individual professionals
within the organization as well as of the

Asthma Case Study Essay
This paper will review a case study of a 30 year old patient who has been diagnosed with asthma
and allergies. The patient was put on the medications; albuterol, (Proventil), salmeterol (Sere vent),
and montelukast (Singular). The patient s provider told the patient to come back in two weeks for
follow up. If at that time she is still wheezing, he would put her on an oral corticosteroid (Kelleher,
Sheryl MS, CFNP, Class Assignment). This paper will define what asthmaand its pathophysiology
is, as well as review the patients prescribed medications of albuterol, salmeterol, and montelukast.
Lastly, a review of corticosteroids and their adverse effects, dosing, and other implications will be
discussed.
Asthma can be defined as a chronic pulmonary disease that involves inflammation and
bronchospasms. To fully understand asthma and its attributes, one must understand the
pathophysiology of asthma, including the lower respiratory tract, and the bronchiolar smooth
muscle.
Stated simply, the major role of the respiratory system is to bring oxygen into the human body, and
remove carbon dioxide (Adams, Holland, Urban,). This is nonetheless respiration, or the exchange
of gases. Another phenomenon occurring in our respiratory system is ventilation. This is when the
air moves in and out of the lungs.
Bronchiolar smooth muscle is located in the Bronchiole and plays a very important role in the
physiology as well. They either contract or relax. Relaxation of the bronchiole smooth

How the Battle of Midway was the Turning Point of WW2 for...
In May of 1942, Japanese Admiral Isorosku Yamamoto devised a plan to draw the US Pacific
fleet into battle where he could completely destroy it. To accomplish this master plan of his, he
sought out the invasion of Midway Island which would provide a base for the Japan troops to
attack Hawaii. Unfortunately for Yamamoto, America decrypted Japanese radio transmissions and
Admiral Chester Nimitz was able to establish a counter attack against this offensive. Nimitz sent
three aircraft carriers, The USS Enterprise, The USS Hornet and The USS Yorktown to destroy the
Japanese. This is just a short overview of The Battle of Midway, or as commonly referred to as, the

It was a severe psychological shock to the nation of Japan. The Army thought Japan s main
interest was in the war in China and defending Manchuria against the Soviet Union. Its support
for the Navy s southern strategy was limited due to the fact that it conflicted with its interests and
was the reason many Army divisions were willing to divide. This indifference was the decline of
the influence of the Naval General Staff over the planning of naval strategy of the Combined Fleet
under Admiral Yamamoto. This was in due to the personality of Yamamoto and his low opinion of
the Chief of the Naval General Staff, as well as his opinion after the success of the attack on Pearl
Harbor
. What might have been a major strategic opportunity wound up being nothing, as the Germans
offered no proposals for joint operations under the new Tripartite Axis agreement. It was
important that the Japanese lure the remainder of the US Pacific Fleet to battle around Midway
and that the Imperial Navy achieve a strategic victory as Yamamoto believed that Japan could
then offer peace to the United States from a position of strength. Yamamoto added Carrier
Division 5 to the naval forces assigned to the operation which increased the risks to the Midway
operation. The Combined Fleet plan was finalized and presented to the Naval General Staff on
April 2. Yamamoto played the resignation card as he strongly

Aboriginal Australia as a Dream Culture
To better understand Aboriginals as a Dream Culture I want to give more insight into Aboriginal
Australians general culture and their conceptions of Dream Time. In his discussion of religion,
Mircea Eliade describes a concept of Cosmos vs Chaos (Eliade 1957). In this notion an
unordered world is chaotic only until is it transposed during a sacred time: By occupying it and,
above all, by settling in it, man symbolically transforms it into a cosmos though a ritual repetition
of the cosmogony (Eliade 1957:31). In other words until a land is tamed or created it is
considered unordered. This can be applied to Aboriginal s understanding of the world prior to their
current presence. Aboriginals believe that in a time before the Dreamings, the land and world was a
featureless earth. It was not until the dreamtime, or time of creation: where there is contact with
appearances from both realms of inside the earth itself as from ill defined upper region that the
earth began to have its composed landscapes (Cowan 1992:26). The Dream Time is not only a
period but more of a dimension where ancestral beings moved across the earth and created not only
land, but every aspect of the earth including animals, plants, and man. It is important to realize that
the ancestors created the natural earth and that is why Aboriginals live a particular lifestyle. Most
Aboriginals living in this cosmogony are hunter gatherer tribes. This aspect of their life can be
traced to stem from the idea of

The Causes And Factors Of The Mexican American War
The Causes and Factors of the Mexican American War
The extent through which the Southern desire for slavery was important in the casus belli against
Mexico, as were two other factors being the political fighting and upheaval of the time, and the
threat of foreign intervention by European powers namely, England.
Slavery as an issue was always at the forefront of national politics, whether we consider the
Missouri Compromise and the balance created of one state slave, and one state free, or the gag
rule in Congress which restricted the discussion of the very issue. However, in the Presidencies
of John Tyler and James Polk the main topic accompanying slavery was its expansion and none
illustrated this more than Texas. Texas although formally a state of Mexico, starting at the
beginning of the century was being flooded by migrants from the South, slave owning migrants
who represented a trend of the time illustrated by Document A which showed the gradual shift of
slaves from the more condensed areas of the Old South the fertile pastures of the West. This was
all in search of land to grow cash crops, this always was in the background of the Texas issue,
Texas may have been a catalyst to speed the process along but the process was on its merry way.
Mexico was displeased at the large numbers of Protestant slave owning Americans at their borders
and although it called for no slaves within its borders the calls went unheeded. Finally the newly
elected President Santa Anna decided

Seeing One Country as 2
Seeing One Country as Two
At the turn of the 19th century the United States had accomplished a change in power without
violence. The inauguration of Thomas Jefferson marked a time in history when things everywhere
started to progress rapidly. The two dominant regions the North and South, looked like it would
be bearable to work with each other and be able to discuss any problems with healthy debates.
However as time progressed toward the 1860s, the North and South proved to differentiate among
each other with few similarities. Economically, the North was based on manufacturing while the
South was rural based. Socially, the North was generally anti slavery while the South was pro
slavery. And lastly, politically, we see the return of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Abolitionist movements began to arise in the North and this did not delight the Southern
slaveholders. Slavery was encouraged by Hinton R. Helper in this publishing of Impending
Crisis of the South. But it didn t create a lasting effect for emancipation was dropped. Due to
this, stricter slave laws were placed as many slaves attempted to rebel such as Prosser and Vesey.
Their differences on social issues were the main cause of why the civil was even erupted. With the
inauguration of Jefferson As President, it seemed as political issues in the new republic were not
going to be that much of an issue. This political tranquility did not last the first 60 years of the
1800s. As the era of good feelings came to the end with the Whig party, the two party system, had
returned to the United States. This development created further separation between the South and
North as one party was dominant in one region and a different one in the other. As this separation
was created, it helped create the inevitable was between the North and South. The only noticeable
political similarity would be their Southern Code of Honor system and Northern character . It both
represented that they each strived for living a specific way of life. The differences far outweigh
their similarities and the economical, social, and political issues all contributed to the divergence of
the North and South. What had started as a country rich on relying itself on unity, turned into a

The, Liberals And The Neo Orthodox
Throughout the Church history, details in which to interpret Scripture and the place of it, has
been debated among major groups for centuries. Three major groups that all read and interpret
scripture to a different standard are the Evangelicals, Liberals and the Neo Orthodox. Each group
holds the Scriptures sacred in their own way, but not everyone agrees to the others use. The first
group was the Liberals. The Liberals were by far the most unique of these three groups because
were prepared to disregard standard traditions to get to a more contemporary way of practicing their
faith. One way they did this was in the way they looked at scripture. When reading Scripture, they
did not see it as inspired in the same way that other groups did. Typically, across denominations,
most everyone views scripture with the most authority because it is God s Word and they believe
that the text is directly from God s mouth, but the Liberals didn t see it that way. They believed that
Christianitywas meant to change as time progressed. For example, they believed many of the
statements that are made throughout the Bible, both New and Old Testament, were not meant to be
the standard in which Christians were to be held at today because times have changed and
changes in beliefs are to be made as society and culture changes. The next group was the
Evangelicals. Evangelicals were a group that was predominantly popular in England. Evangelicals

Impact Of The Great Leap Forward Movement
The Great Leap Forward Movement of the People s Republic of China was an economic and social
programme carried out by the Communist Party of China from 1958 to 1961. The movement was
led by Mao Zedong, and aimed to rapidly transform the country from an agrarian economy into a
communist society by means of accelerated industrialization and collectivization. Before the
occurrence of the movement, Chinahad been suffering from foreign invasions, civil wars, unequal
treaties and political disorder, which left the Chinese Communist Party with a backward economy;
one that was unable to sustain itself. In addition to this, the widely applied political and military
ideology of Maoism, established by Mao Zedongand the Communist Party of China, claimed that
instead of the peasants being a revolutionary class, hand in hand with their industrial working
comrades , they were the revolutionary class. This belief system contributed to the lack of poor

The Issue Of Health Care
Prison Health Care in Canada
The issue of health care reform has been a major concern for various households and members of
the society for a long while. Health care reforms in North America seems to be a topic of
discussion that each government of the comprising nations considers a priority based on the major
issues related to financing, instituting health care, supporting education programs, and increasing
the number of heath care services to meet the demand of health care users. While health care is a
problematic topic when considered generally, in specific occasions and settings, health care is
approached in different ways rather than the standardized approach. The Canadian Prisons are an
example of places where health care is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The difference between the normal budgeting and prison budgeting for health care makes a logical
case in this essay. However, the inscribing of health care issues into the prison environment
provides an opportunity to assess how the different settings approach the same issues and a chance
to recommend methods of increasing health care awareness and viability in Canadian Prisons.
Ethical Issues
Conditions of Canadian Prisons
Prison health care in Canada is approached from a number of perspectives. There are proposals
that more funding should be allocated to ensure that medical equipment in prisons is vamped up to
accommodate the demand for health care services (CanLII, 2014). The Code of Ethics for
Registered Nurses delineates the ethical standards for nurses across all settings, levels and roles,
setting expectations as well as providing guidance (Canadian Nurses Association [CNA], 2008).
One of the common ethical concerns that arises for the correctional nurse relates to demonstrating
caring in a custody environment. Correctional nurses must find balance in displaying an attitude of
care and compassion while recognizing and maintaining safe boundaries. Another area of ethical
concern is the nurse s responsibility for ensuring that patients have access to care. The values
associated with nursing practice include nurse advocacy, respect for humans and eliminating
barriers to care (CNA, 2008). The correctional

The Importance Of Being A Working Mother
We live in a world where we are criticized for practically everything, from what we wear, how we
act, to the decisions we make. Being a parent comes with many criticisms, such as how you raise
your child, what you feed your child, or how much attention is given to the child. More controversy
lies on working mothersmainly due to the growing concerns for the childs well being. It is
important to see the negative aspects of being a working motheras well as the positive outcomes.
First and foremost the term mother must be addressed. In this _____ the term mother will refer to
______. In a study done, the mothers working schedule was evaluated in order to see if it was
correlated with the child s behavior. This study was mainly focused on low income mothers
working a non traditional schedule, the nightshift or graveyard shift. The results were what would
be expected, that children experience a higher aggression behavior if their mothers took a nightshift
job than if the mother did not work. (QUOTE) This is partly due to the fact that although mothers
are physically present when their children arrive home, they may not be fully mentally there. That
is, mothers who work at night may be exhausted in the morning due to the lack of sleep. Instead of
paying attention to the child, their minds might be wondering somewhere else. This then raises the
question of the quality of time spent with the child. Taking a look at the different working
schedules of working mothers we see that

Should You Get an MBA Before Launching Your Startup? The Value of an MBA or Business
Education in Today s Competitive Arena for Entrepreneurship
Engineers, self made entrepreneurs and bootstrap enthusiasts believe that the right person with the
right work ethic can succeed in business with a good idea activated at the right time. However, in
today s complex, collaborative and highly technical business environment, a degree in business or
at least some strong business courses can give you the knowledge and tools to handle a startup like

The Graduate Management Admission Council s Alumni Perspectives Report chronicles a rise in
the number of business graduates who start their own businesses. Entrepreneurs are growing
younger, better educated and committed to applying business skills to their own startup ideas. [3]
Although the demands of modern marketing, software implementations and integrating software
applications into sales platforms make it difficult to succeed in business without a thorough
grounding in modern sales, marketing and financing techniques, experienced engineers often
succeed in business without receiving formal educations on standard business practices. The
United States encourages this technology boom with its West Coast IT industry headquartered in
Silicon Valley and other areas. Education is a big key to business success even if it isn t limited
to business courses. Engineers, coders and developers are coming up with big ideas, but it often
takes people with business backgrounds to transform these ideas into practical ideas for sales and
marketing. Benefits of Getting a Business Degree
The benefits of getting a business degree can set you up for business success even if your
revolutionary idea for a startup doesn t succeed. Although there s no single path to business
success. A business degree and ideally an MBA will stand you in good stead when you encounter
typical business problems as your company grows. The benefits of

Essay of Comparison between The Tiger and The Lamb, poems...
Essay of Comparison between The Tiger and The Lamb, poems by William Blake
The Tiger and The Lamb were poems by William Blake, a poet who lived in the 18th century. In
this essay I am going to compare the two poems and examine links between them relating to
rhymes, patterns and words used.
Blake s background relates on the poems he wrote, and many of his works reflected his early
home life. Blake in his childhood was an outcast, a loner, and didn t have many friends. His family
believed very strongly in God and were extremely pious Christians but did not agree with the
teachings of the church, so young William Blake often was made to think about God and his
teachings during his studies.
Because his parents were rebels ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Lamb the poem is mainly very well structured and flows. In the first verse it has the
questions and in the second verse it has all the answers. If you were only to look at the poem
briefly you would believe it was a children s poem, a hopscotch poem or playground chant, until
you remember that Blake could not have known these as he did not attend school. The reader
would think this because of the simple vocabulary, and also if you notice, the poem uses soft
alliteration little lamb this gave a much softer feel to the poem, obviously putting one in mind of
children and their innocence.
Blake was a very holy and pious person. He often out biblical discourse into many of his poems,
as I have stated before. I found some plain biblical tones in The Lamb the next quotation shows
this point. He is meek, and he is mild . . . became a little child .
This quotation is from the New Testament, where God was forgiving, whereas in the Old Testament
God was believed to punish people for their sins i.e. Noah and the Ark, in which God drowns the
entire human race apart from Noah and his family. The fact that there is biblical content in The
Lamb is inspiring and was maybe meant to give a sense of hope. The lack of biblical discussion in
The Tiger gives the reader a sense of lack if reprieve, lack of hope and a sense of the
prison of the world and all

Essay about Devil in the Grove
The Fear of a Nation and the Bravery Within: Devil in the Grove
It was President Franklin Delano Roosevelt who famously said, We have nothing to fear but fear
itself . There was a deep seated irrational fear in Lake County, Florida in 1949 four black boys
accused of raping a 17 year old girl. White supremacists obsessed over controlling the black race,
and protecting the flower of southern womanhood . While blacks feared for their lives. And with
the influential but extremely courageous help of the NAACP, especially Thurgood Marshall, some
fought back. Gilbert Kings Novel, The Devil in the Grove, tells the story of a rather suspenseful
tragic time for our Nation that should never be forgotten or repeated. A time when irrational... Show

Fear had taken over the south, whites were afraid to stand against the crowd, and blacks had to fear
their lives every day. Two black men saw a car stopped on the side of the road and offered to help,
little did they know they re kindness would turn so ugly because of racism.
The Groveland Four Boys were beyond any doubt innocent. But the KKK was so scared of
racial integration. Because a young white woman was accusing them of rape they thought they
had a case. Although only three were on trial, Ernest Thomas, was running away for fear of
being murdered when he was shot by Willis McCall, the merciless Lake County sheriff, and by
chance became the fourth boy. Two of the boys were not even in the area of the rape . McCall
was a notorious violent racist who abused his power as sheriff. He beat confessions out of the
Groveland boys. Although the facts clearly freed the boys of the crime, it would never matter
when it came to the matter of blacks and whites. When a white female accused a black male of
taking her innocence the fear grew even stronger for the white supremacists. The KKK burned the
innocent Groveland boy s homes. And although mobs wanted to take the boys away and lynch
them immediately, McCall saves them from the mobs, only to take matters into his own hands.
Evidence is tampered with, false evidence is displayed, and the case is unbelievably hard to take in

The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn Satire Analysis
In Mark Twain s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn , Twain uses satire to criticize many
aspects of American society. His first use of satire may be overlooked by many. Twain s
decision to set the novel in a time where slavery was allowed, despite the book being published
in 1959, is one of his ways of making fun of American society. This detail mocks how little
progress the United States made with civil rights in the century. Twain continues to mock ideals
such as religion, family feuds, and greed, all of which were engrained in American society
during his life time. One of the first characters that are introduced in the novel are Miss. Watson
and Widow Douglas. Both women are portrayed and described as proper Christians, despite the
fact that they own slaves. According to the bible, anyone who kidnaps someone is to be put to
death, whether the victim has been sold or is still in the kidnapper s possession (Exodus 21:16).
Disciples in the New Testament also spoke out against slaveryin their testaments. Despite this, the
women continue to own and sell slaves. By portraying Christians in this light, Twain mocks the
religion as hypocritical. The escaped slave, Jim, also serves as a mockery of religion. Jim is
known to believe in almost all superstations. In the beginning of the novel, Jim is able to tell Huck

401 Games As A Successful Business
401 Games has a wide variety of customers due to extensive amount of diverse games that are
offered in their store. When analyzing 401 Games as a whole, we decided on two determining
variables and one qualifying variable for the best target market. We chose buying behavior and
loyalty status as our two determining variables. For our qualifying variable, we selected location.
We broke buying behavior down into two categories, entertainment and competition. The
entertainment segment includes board games and card games. This would target both married
couples and families with children looking for fun, at home entertainment. The competition
segment would include individuals who compete in different gaming tournaments like Magic. 401

401 Games has very competitive prices for games compared to other retailers, which helps
customer s loyalty. Another big aspect of loyalty is word of mouth to recruit new customers,
which 401 Games has currently. A loyal customer, not only comes back and continues to buy from
the store, but is more likely to tell their friends too, thus keeping the business thriving. Next, we
selected entertainment over competition for buying behavior. Although 401 Games sells magic
and items for gaming competition, the best selling items are for entertainment. According to
Exhibit 1: Breakdown of Sales by Product Category, 401 Games top sellers include board games
with 30% of total sales and card game sets with a total of 20% of sales, which are both in the
entertainment category. They together make up $300,000 worth of revenue. Adults, couples, or
families with children will be the ones purchasing good board games or card games to play on
game night for entertainment, especially families with children because it is cheap family fun.
Lastly, we picked individuals who prefer in store shopping over online. At 401 Games, we hire
individuals and train them to be the experts on all games. We want customers to come in and look
at different games. Customers can ask our employees if they have questions, which is a benefit that
is not online. Customers also have the ability to come in

The Theory Of The Social Learning Theory
The act of learning is an innate characteristic belonging to people across the globe. Learning can
take place in many different forms (reading, writing, speaking, listening, excellency in a particular
skill, etc.) and settings, generalizing from one content area to another. It also occurs at varying rates
across a diverse spectrum of populations and can be influenced by any number of factors including
personalities, perceived abilities, societal values and environment. Some individuals acquire
information best in formal settings, like the direct instruction or supports found in a classroom,
while others may benefit more from informal instruction, learning incidentally from their
surroundings. Throughout the course of history, there have been many perspectives regarding
education and the manner in which individuals learn best. I will primarily focus on the educational
perspective of the Social Learning Theoryand briefly discuss its history as well as its prominent
figures, components, and implications in regard to language and literacy both inside and outside of
the classroom.
In 1954 Julian B. Rotter developed the Social Learning Theory that gravitated away from Freud s
psychoanalysis and Skinner s behaviorism that focused on behavior rather than intrinsic thought.
They were the most popular theories during that time, focusing on experimental methods,
emphasizing variables that are observable, measurable, and manipulatable, avoiding whatever is
subjective, internal,

Drug Testing And The Workplace
In many years, companies adopted many programs to monitor substance abuse in the workplace.
The implementation of drug testing by companies grew in recent years. American workers have
seen a dramatic increase in the use of drug testing in the previous years. Drug testing is
implemented to assure safe workplaces for American workers. Drug testing can reduce the
company s health care and insurance costs. Even though drug testing has become common in
the workplace, there is little research that exists regarding this matter. Overall, drug testing
affects the decisions of workers by adopting a zero tolerance policy. Experienced users try to
beat these tests by using drug to cancel the tracking of the drug itself. These workers attempt to
avoid the detection of drug use for long periods (Borack, 1995). Literature implies that employee
drug use in the workplace may create high costs to firms in the form of lower productivity,
increased absences, and an increase in workplace accidents. As a response to these costs,
employers have implemented a variety of policies and programs to decrease employee drug use.
Educational programs and standards such as Zero Tolerance policies, employers have turned to
drug testing programs more in the past decades. About 46 percent of American workers report that
their employer conducts drug testing, although other sources indicate that 90 percent of Fortune
200 companies use some type of drug testing (Flynn 1999). The factor behind workplace drug

Compromise Of 1850 Dbq
The Compromise of 1850 was constructed by Henry Clay in desire to keep the nation from a

ongoing conflicts over slavery. This is a significant part in history because this compromise moved
the country towards the Civil War. It had brought conflict because it seemingly caused more riots
throughout the nation. However, it also had created compromise because their initial plan was to

The five bills constructed by Henry Clay and passed by the United States Congress were created in
attempt to solve the crisis between the Northern and Southern states. Bringing these bills into the

brought the United States into smaller tensions and resolved many issues due to the difference of
viewpoints in slavery distributed along the United States. This compromise had fundamental
significance on individuals, communities, nations, and the world. The amount of trouble between
both areas of the United States started to lessen when the compromise was created and brought

Historical Background Of The Golden Summer Of 1991
(III) The Golden Summer of 1991
A] Historical Background:
India followed Import Substitution Industrialization policy up to 1991. The major highlights of this
policy included significant restrictions on imports (ensured by high tariffs and import control),
limited incentives to private sector, a large public sector (with focus on heavy industries) and an
overvalued exchange rate. Furthermore, there were restrictions on consumer goods too.
Quantitative restrictions such as import licensing and exchange control existed too. All of these
policy measures were part and parcel of what is known as barriers to an economy. The quantitative
restrictions prevented the opening up of the Indian economy. Thus, integration of Indiawith the
global village was to wait till 1991.
The period from 1976 to 1991 is known as ad hoc liberalization. It is during this period that
businesses in India began lobbying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

(ii) Anti labour stance was adopted by the Government during this period. The aroma of capitalism
was in the air. Pro business policies were being formulated though not implemented. It can be said
that the Government made a departure from socialist policies.
Politically speaking, in 1978 Janata Party formed the Government. The Janata Pary Government
had thought of modifying India s economic policy in order to attract foreign investment and to
encourage participation of private sector. However, ad hoc liberalization began during Rajiv
Gandhi s tenure as the P.M. in 1980s. The Rajiv Gandhi Government introduced partial economic
reforms to relax restrictions on industrial license and on import export prices.
It should be understood that the 1991 economic reforms were not wholly a knee jerk reaction to the
economic crisis that shook India in the same

Using An Organized Approach To Crime Scene Investigations
A successful investigation is everything in a police department, to the victim, and the family of
the victim. A successful investigation will more than likely result in justice, even some peace to
all those wronged by those events. An investigation is an investigator most important job. A lot
goes into an investigation, endless hours working the scene, canvassing, interviewing, chasing
leads but its success is the best reward. In an organized approach to Crime Scene Investigations
there are three basic and simple stages in properly processing the crime scene. Those stages
consist of Scene Recognition, which is determining if a crime has been committed or not, Scene
Documentation and Evidence Collection. An organized approach is a sequence of established
and excepted duties and protocols. The region or jurisdiction and population will determine the
amount of resources the department will be able to use on a specific case. The type of crime also
plays in role in that as well. I will elaborate on the role and some of the... Show more content on

identify, isolate and secure the scene. Establishing a restricted perimeter is key so civilians do
not damage any evidence. The chain of custody must be established immediately once objects are
photographed and sketched the scene is completely. The chain of custody is the written
chronological history of who had the evidence when. Tampering of evidence can make or break
one s case. Patience and care are very important at the crime scene. The investigator should take
the proper time and care in processing the scene. The work is tedious and time consuming but
extremely important in any case. You only have one chance to get it right because once it goes to

the Spanish and English empires in America had more similarities than differences. Assess the
validity of this generalization. Response Strategy It is important to develop a clear thesis on the
validity of the statement at the outset of the essay. A good essay could be developed on either side
of the issue or in support of a middle of the road position. Supporting paragraphs should be

Mercantilist ideas emphasized that nations should strive toward economic self sufficiency and
that the power of a nation should be measured by the amount of its gold and silver reserves.
Ultimately, a nation should arrange to produce everything it needed for its own citizens and sell
surpluses to for hard currency. This metal reserve, in turn, could be used in emergency situations
to pay for wars or solve shortages. Colonies, like those England had in North America, played an
important part in this economic equation. They could help England become self sufficient by
producing things that could not be made or grown there such as tobacco, sugar, and tall masts for
ships. Colonists could also provide a market for British goods, particularly manufactured products,
such as woolen cloth or beaver hats. This meant that the home economy in England could become
more fully developed, while the colonial economies were relegated to a role of supplying raw
materials. To insure that the American colonies would contribute to this overall sense of British
wealth, various Navigation Acts were passed beginning in 1650 to regulate trade between the
colonies, England, and the rest of the world. In many cases, ships carrying American products to
other European countries had to stop in England first to pay duties before continuing onward. Also,
goods traveling to and from America had to be

Teenage Insubordination In Romeo And Juliet
Teenage Rebellion There is a lot of teenage insubordination in the film Freaky Friday and Romeo

mom. That is similar to the book Romeo and Juliet because Juliet disobeys her mom. Another
reason is that their mom s are controlling them. The last reason is that their mom s want them to
be perfect. Also, The Emoji Movie has a lot of similarities with the two movies. The main
character Gene doesn t to be the emoji that his parents are, so he tries to rebell and goes makes his

Health Insurance Coverage
Seven years ago, the first thing I had to accomplish after a few days of settling in the United
States was to submit my documents for health insurance coverage. Back then; I did not
understand the urgency of it, since in my home country, the Philippines, insurance coverage
differed based on the type of care delivered. Fee for service reimbursements are used for inpatient
care, most day surgeries, and ambulatory procedures, while primary care providers are reimbursed
based on a capitation system. There are no formal system sets deductibles or co payments for
beneficiaries, but health care providers are allowed to balance bill , charging patients the balance
between what the Philippine Health InsuranceCorporation a tax exempt tax exempt, government
owned and government controlled corporation pays and the total cost of care. This is
nonconforming of most government health programs around the world and can lead to abuse by
providers such as overcharging and what not. Hence, the poorest of the country gets limited access.
In the same manner, balance billing allows providers additional cost recovery in the case that the
reimbursement for services does not cover their cost.
I did not give it much consideration in view of the fact that there are several hospitals and
practitioners abound and you can just choose which doctor suits your interests and budget as well.
Fees are straightforward for inpatient, outpatient, pharmacy and laboratory. Furthermore, since my

Cultural Capital And Structural Violence
Despite the many disadvantages of being raised by a low income migrant family, one of my
advantages is my cultural capital which bypassed the structural violence around me. My cultural
capital consisted of having both a mother and father figure, which many children in South Central
lacked. For instance, children raised by a single parent suffered greater amount of hardships than
one raised by both parents. Accordingly, many of these single parents are forced to overwork in
order to financially support their children, as a result, leaving their children with minimal guidance
and nourishment. This is the result of structural violence in underserved communities. Structural
violence is the way the patriarchal system harms an individual through

What Is Tuckman s Five Stage Theory Of Group Development
Our group had members from different educational backgrounds, place of origin, work experience
etc. This diversity helped us in getting new and different perspectives about the issues and
possible solutions to them and helped us to remove personal biases. As some of the members in
the group were from Bhubaneswar, it helped us in interacting with local people in Odia language
and also familiarity with the place made it easier for us to locate the stone crushers.
Group Process
As a part of analysis of group process, I will go over two different theories of group development.
The first one is Tuckman s 5 stage model of group development and Punctuated equilibrium model.
In analyzing the group development of the of our GDTB group, there will be examples of

a) Forming:
In the forming stage, the group is formed and the group members try to get to know each other
and figure out how they are going to function. At this stage there is discomfort due to
unfamiliarity together with confusion on how the team will function together. It s important at
this point in team development to have a clear objective, define goals, and plan how the team
will achieve their tasks. In my previous groups in 1st term, there was some discomfort and
confusion, I think, primarily due to the fact that we did not know each other well and did not
have clear goals and an understanding of how we would function together as a team. But in the
GDTB group, some of us had already worked together for another assignment in 1st term so it
was easier for us to work together again for GDTB project. Through this project we learned more
about each other and also talked about our goals, interests in how we would work

The Battle Of The American Revolution
The Battle of Yorktown was the last important battle of the American Revolution, which was fought
from 28 September 1781 to 19 October 1781, in Yorktown Virginia, near the York River. The
Continental Army, led by George Washington, won the battle against the British, led by General
Lord Charles Cornwallis. General Cornwallis was force to surrender after Washington s army,
assisted by the French who were led by Marquis de Lafayette and the Comte de Rochambeau
(Davis, P., 2001), surrounded them. General Washington use of misinformation and
counterintelligence was very effective in turning the battle in their favor. If the British had
validated the information by conducting such operations of their own they could have identified the
misinformation in a timely manner. The British s bias made them to believe that their collect
efforts were very effective and did not question how easily the falsified documents were captured
and deciphered. This bias cause the British to continue reinforcing defensive positions in the north
as General Washington and the French moved south, which proved to be fatal. The purpose of this
paper is to discuss the Battle of Yorktown and identify key intelligence events that if they had not
occurred, would have changed the outcome of the battle. If General George Washington did not
utilize misinformation and Counter Intelligence in this battle the British would have not
surrendered as they were the superior fighting force and would have continue to

Within The Context Of American Society, We Have Strayed
Within the context of American society, we have strayed from the true purpose and identity of
what the church was originally created to be. When we hear the word, church, we think of a
building, a mere location where believers gather together every Sunday. The church of America
might believe the essential elements of the church are an air conditioned sanctuary, ten different
ministry opportunities, and a full band to lead worship. While none of these things are necessarily
bad, they do not comprise the biblical model of what the church was created to be. The church can
be divided into two components: the Universal Church and the local church. Once a person
becomes a believer, they are part of the Universal Church, the body of believers... Show more

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus commands His listeners to repent for the Kingdom of God is near.
In Acts 3:19, Peter says, Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that
times of refreshing may come from the Lord. One cannot enter into a relationship with God without
repentance, which is why it is the first essential element of the church. Repentance and faith in
Christ turns a person away from his or her sin and allows that person to enter into the grace of God.
Repentance is a central command of Christ to the church, and so it must be a central command in
our churches today.
The second characteristic Peter considers to be essential is baptism. Jesus himself was baptized; so
believers of the church today must also be baptized. In Matthew 28:18 20, Jesus gives His final
command as, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and
of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. If Jesus considered baptism worthy and necessary enough to be
in His final command, it is something we should put into practice today. The command to be
baptized is found multiple times throughout the book of Acts and also in the rest of New
Testament, thus, making it an essential element of the church today. In Acts 22:16, Paul is told,
And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his
name. Baptism is the first step of obedience as a

Analysis Of The Poem Hawai I
Hawai i is known by the rest of the world primarily for its tropical weather, exquisite scenery, and
luxurious resorts. Millions of tourists visit Hawai i annually to forget their worries within this
universally perceived paradise.
For the indigenous people of Hawai i, whose ancestors have cultivated this land for generations, the
idea of paradise only conceals the enduring oppression that dictates their reality.
The oppression of native Hawaiians emerged during the 18th century with the attempts of western
settlers to colonize the archipelago and impose their beliefs on to the natives. Along with them
came diseases that collapsed the native population, while introduced plant and animal species
devastated the archipelago s delicate ecosystem.
On January 17th, 1893, the Hawaiian Monarchy was illegally overthrown by American
businessmen who called themselves the Republic of Hawai i. Since then, the native Hawaiian
population has been marginalized within their own homelands, while their lands were desecrated
by the imperialists of the United States.
In 1896, the Hawaiian language is prohibited by the United States federal government from all
public schools. Students who could only speak Hawaiian were either silenced or punished
severely under this law. In 1929, the military occupies Makua valley on the island of O ahu and
uses the land for training. From 1941 to 1990, the entire island of Kaho olawe was used as an
arena for military bombing practice.

Common Sense Explanations And The Explanations Of C....
In this essay I will be exploring the differences between common sense explanations and the
explanations of C. Wright Mills theory of The Sociological Imagination. Common sense is
based on people s personal experiences and their opinions, very often constructed from social
norms and generalised views. Whereas, the Sociological Imagination thought up by sociologist C.
Wright Mills (1959) is based on the ideas of thinking critically and skeptically, in order to think
sociologically. He wrote that in order to do this, we have to understand and grasp the link between
current society and history, personal troubles and public issues. There are three main parts to
Sociological Imagination: social structure, biography and history. In this essay I will set forth the
ways in which each of these approaches would explain the topic of sexuality. I consider sexuality to
be an umbrella term for various features, including sexual orientation, sexual activity, masculinity
/femininity and gender roles. Each of which will be looked at in this essay in order to explore the
topic of sexuality in relation to common sense and the Sociological Imagination.
Sexual orientation is commonly viewed as the term to describe an individual s attraction for others;
who they want to have sex with. This sexual attraction is what s commonly considered to be the
representative of their sexuality. The common sense approach to sexual orientation is well educated
on heterosexuality and the LGBT community. LGBT

  • 2. Primal Water Roman Culture Many cultures have myths as to how mankind were created, and how their destruction came about, which led to a more pious and religious humankind being created. The use of water plays a major role in the creation and destruction myth in both Roman cultures, and Christianity, which share many similarities and some differences. The use of water in creation and destruction myths demonstrates that primal water is a significant force towards both the creation and renewal of mankind, to a race better accepted by the gods. This is particularly true to the Roman culture were the creation and destruction of man, integrated water. The Roman gods created mankind because they believed the world was missing something. Mankind was created because they were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a comparison to how rain and water is required on earth for things to grow. Similar to plants, people sprouted from the ground and were nourished by water. In addition, water in nature is seen as a destructive force, floods, hurricanes, torrential downpour, and the open ocean can lead to the destruction of towns, crops, ships, and people. After the destruction, the rejuvenation of the land occurs and thus the ability to create and grow new things. Another reason why rain might have been used as a force of obliteration instead of fire, is because in Roman mythology fire is the apocalyptic force that will end the world, and all its people for eternity. It is prophesied that mankind as well as the world will end by fire. Furthermore, according to some Christian mythology, the world will also end in flames. Making water an important tool of destruction because it removed the current group of mankind, but it is also a form of life giving, and renewal. It renews the world and its inhabitants to its original purpose which was to worship the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Happiness Vs Happiness Happiness is an emotion that many individuals try to search for throughout their lives, whereas people view happiness as an essential factor in living a quality life. All over the world, there are individuals who believe that they can find true joy through distancing oneself from social interactions and by living life independently. Many believe that this is true because you are allowed to make your own choices when living independently. When we are independent, we tend to make choices that surround ourselves. In addition, the choices that we make as independent individuals tends to be selfish and egocentric. To this, these choices are selfish because we are independent and only worry about our own selves. Although living life independently may seem as a road to happiness, it is not the way to live. An individual should live life compassionately and surround themselves with people they cherish. To live life compassionately, we should be understanding of other individual s and show empathy. Each and every individual experiences different upbringings that make us unique. Often when we re uncompassionate, we tend to misunderstand other individuals because we hold them up to our own moral standards. Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone.... remember that all the people in this world haven t had the advantages that you ve had (Fitzgerald 1). Without compassion, we are quick to assume and judge other individuals, whereas we only think of ourselves. When being consumed with our own thoughts and own well being, we become self centered individuals with our default settings on. In This Is Water, Wallace defines these default settings as the, unconscious belief that I am the center of the world and that my immediate needs... determine the world s priorities (Wallace 236). Contrary to the thoughts of self centered individuals, we are not the center of the world. As individuals that live in a world with an abundant amount of other individuals, it s essential to not maintain an aura of selfishness. While it is true that living compassionately isn t always easy, a compassionate lifestyle is still essential to develop a kindhearted character. Those who oppose a life of compassion may argue that to feel emotion and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This coverage is best if a family prefers the convenience and predictability of copayments for routine health care expenses. In addition, it covers families with young children that have regularly scheduled doctor visits and want copayment benefits. The Health Savings Account combines a lower cost, high deductible health insurance plan with a tax favored savings account. HSAs allow you to deposit the money an insurer saves on premiums into a tax favored HSA, subject to federal limits. The individual uses these savings to pay qualified health care expenses until the out of pocket maximum is met, then insurance starts to pay the covered health care costs, once the deductible is met. Any leftover savings roll over year after year and continues to earn interest. This is a good insurance option if a person wants more control over how their health care dollars are spent, it has lower monthly premiums and it is a tax savings. High Deductible or Traditional insurance is a more economical way to help protect a person s health. This is a preferred option for those that prefer to pay a higher deductible, understanding that subsequent covered expenses are paid by the insurance plan. How Does Norman Bates Relate To Psychology Alfred Hitchcock s original contemporary film Psycho shocks the conservative audiences of the 1960s era by delving into the demented intricacies of Norman Bates mind, and questioning the faГ§ade of normality that society expects of us. • 7. The Law Of The Sea What do you understand by the Law of the Sea in Public International Law? Critically discuss the different principles, mechanisms of the Law of the Sea, and how they are applied. Law of the Sea The seas have long standing recognition as routes linking all parts of the world and as a treasure full of resources. This has given significant rise to established rules. The Law of the Sea central principle is that Land rules over the Sea. A state will have the right on the sea, until a certain distance, according to the parameters of its land territory. This will be the territorial sea which forms part of a state s area subject to its authority, and any further range will be the high sea. The high seas were not to be appropriated. International law made the high seas one of its main principle. States have been demanding to extend the perimeter of the sea around their coasts to get more of the seas under their jurisdiction. Under these demands, developments in International law have brought about extended zones known as contiguous zone, continental shelf, exclusive economic zone etc. The Law of the sea will govern these characterised zones and see if a state should be entitled to such territorial sea extensions. The change of perception of states towards the seas have led to each state having their own principles which gave rise to clashing principles, this has led to conferences to find a solution to the problem. The conferences eventually led to four conventions on the law of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

George Herbert Walker Bush and George Walker Bush Essay Like Father Like Son George Herbert Walker Bush and George Walker Bush Although all individuals are unique no matter how closely related they might be, sometimes their similarities over shadow their differences, and yield a very interesting combination of events that almost have a deja vu effect on its audience. The Bush family serves as the perfect illustration for this phenomenon. • 9. The Effects Of Reading On Reading For Pleasure Forced/required/assigned reading has a significant effect on all students. Forced reading is reading assigned by school teachers to students who will eventually be tested over the plot, characters, themes and/or other details in the book. Many students don t realize that required reading is much different than readingfor pleasure. Testing over assigned readingrequires a student to pay attention to several small details that would otherwise be overlooked if they were reading on their own. Although it is required reading, many students find ways around it by searching the internet for Sparknotes, Cliff Notes, plot summaries, character lists, etc. to give them an overview of the bookto excel on the tests they are given. Required reading can have an effect on a person s idea of reading for pleasure for the rest of their life. So, how does assigned reading affect a student s view on reading for pleasure both positively and negatively? Although almost all students despise assigned reading, it can have significant positive outcomes. There are so many other forms of entertainment that have become more popular in today s world, such as video games, movies, athletic event and social media. With this in mind, forced reading can be positive, because most students would never have the motivation to pick up a book, magazine article, newspaper, etc. on their own time if they did not have assigned reading for school. According to Mintzberg organisations are formed of five main parts: Operating core Those who perform the basic work related directly to the production of products and services Strategic apex Charged with ensuring that the organisation serve its mission in an effective way, and also that it serve the needs of those people who control or otherwise have power over the organisation Middle line managers Form a chain joining the ... Whereas the machine bureaucracy generates its own standards the standards of the professional bureaucracy originate largely outside its own structure (especially in the self governing association its operators join with their colleagues from other professional bureaucracies). • 11. Asthma Case Study Essay This paper will review a case study of a 30 year old patient who has been diagnosed with asthma and allergies. The patient was put on the medications; albuterol, (Proventil), salmeterol (Sere vent), and montelukast (Singular). The patient s provider told the patient to come back in two weeks for follow up. If at that time she is still wheezing, he would put her on an oral corticosteroid (Kelleher, Sheryl MS, CFNP, Class Assignment). This paper will define what asthmaand its pathophysiology is, as well as review the patients prescribed medications of albuterol, salmeterol, and montelukast. Lastly, a review of corticosteroids and their adverse effects, dosing, and other implications will be discussed. Asthma can be defined as a chronic pulmonary disease that involves inflammation and bronchospasms. To fully understand asthma and its attributes, one must understand the pathophysiology of asthma, including the lower respiratory tract, and the bronchiolar smooth muscle. Stated simply, the major role of the respiratory system is to bring oxygen into the human body, and remove carbon dioxide (Adams, Holland, Urban,). This is nonetheless respiration, or the exchange of gases. Another phenomenon occurring in our respiratory system is ventilation. This is when the air moves in and out of the lungs. Bronchiolar smooth muscle is located in the Bronchiole and plays a very important role in the physiology as well. They either contract or relax. Relaxation of the bronchiole smooth ... • 12. How the Battle of Midway was the Turning Point of WW2 for... In May of 1942, Japanese Admiral Isorosku Yamamoto devised a plan to draw the US Pacific fleet into battle where he could completely destroy it. To accomplish this master plan of his, he sought out the invasion of Midway Island which would provide a base for the Japan troops to attack Hawaii. Unfortunately for Yamamoto, America decrypted Japanese radio transmissions and Admiral Chester Nimitz was able to establish a counter attack against this offensive. Nimitz sent three aircraft carriers, The USS Enterprise, The USS Hornet and The USS Yorktown to destroy the Japanese. This is just a short overview of The Battle of Midway, or as commonly referred to as, the battle that changed the war. People argue that it had no affect on the war, but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was a severe psychological shock to the nation of Japan. The Army thought Japan s main interest was in the war in China and defending Manchuria against the Soviet Union. Its support for the Navy s southern strategy was limited due to the fact that it conflicted with its interests and was the reason many Army divisions were willing to divide. This indifference was the decline of the influence of the Naval General Staff over the planning of naval strategy of the Combined Fleet under Admiral Yamamoto. This was in due to the personality of Yamamoto and his low opinion of the Chief of the Naval General Staff, as well as his opinion after the success of the attack on Pearl Harbor . What might have been a major strategic opportunity wound up being nothing, as the Germans offered no proposals for joint operations under the new Tripartite Axis agreement. It was important that the Japanese lure the remainder of the US Pacific Fleet to battle around Midway and that the Imperial Navy achieve a strategic victory as Yamamoto believed that Japan could then offer peace to the United States from a position of strength. Yamamoto added Carrier Division 5 to the naval forces assigned to the operation which increased the risks to the Midway operation. The Combined Fleet plan was finalized and presented to the Naval General Staff on April 2. Yamamoto played the resignation card as he strongly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Aboriginal Australia as a Dream Culture To better understand Aboriginals as a Dream Culture I want to give more insight into Aboriginal Australians general culture and their conceptions of Dream Time. In his discussion of religion, Mircea Eliade describes a concept of Cosmos vs Chaos (Eliade 1957). In this notion an unordered world is chaotic only until is it transposed during a sacred time: By occupying it and, above all, by settling in it, man symbolically transforms it into a cosmos though a ritual repetition of the cosmogony (Eliade 1957:31). In other words until a land is tamed or created it is considered unordered. This can be applied to Aboriginal s understanding of the world prior to their current presence. Aboriginals believe that in a time before the Dreamings, the land and world was a featureless earth. It was not until the dreamtime, or time of creation: where there is contact with appearances from both realms of inside the earth itself as from ill defined upper region that the earth began to have its composed landscapes (Cowan 1992:26). The Dream Time is not only a period but more of a dimension where ancestral beings moved across the earth and created not only land, but every aspect of the earth including animals, plants, and man. It is important to realize that the ancestors created the natural earth and that is why Aboriginals live a particular lifestyle. Most Aboriginals living in this cosmogony are hunter gatherer tribes. The Causes And Factors Of The Mexican American War The Causes and Factors of the Mexican American War The extent through which the Southern desire for slavery was important in the casus belli against Mexico, as were two other factors being the political fighting and upheaval of the time, and the threat of foreign intervention by European powers namely, England. Slavery as an issue was always at the forefront of national politics, whether we consider the Missouri Compromise and the balance created of one state slave, and one state free, or the gag rule in Congress which restricted the discussion of the very issue. However, in the Presidencies of John Tyler and James Polk the main topic accompanying slavery was its expansion and none illustrated this more than Texas. Texas although formally a state of Mexico, starting at the beginning of the century was being flooded by migrants from the South, slave owning migrants who represented a trend of the time illustrated by Document A which showed the gradual shift of slaves from the more condensed areas of the Old South the fertile pastures of the West. This was all in search of land to grow cash crops, this always was in the background of the Texas issue, Texas may have been a catalyst to speed the process along but the process was on its merry way. Mexico was displeased at the large numbers of Protestant slave owning Americans at their borders and although it called for no slaves within its borders the calls went unheeded. Three major groups that all read and interpret scripture to a different standard are the Evangelicals, Liberals and the Neo Orthodox. Each group holds the Scriptures sacred in their own way, but not everyone agrees to the others use. The first group was the Liberals. The Liberals were by far the most unique of these three groups because were prepared to disregard standard traditions to get to a more contemporary way of practicing their faith. One way they did this was in the way they looked at scripture. When reading Scripture, they did not see it as inspired in the same way that other groups did. Typically, across denominations, most everyone views scripture with the most authority because it is God s Word and they believe that the text is directly from God s mouth, but the Liberals didn t see it that way. They believed that Christianitywas meant to change as time progressed. For example, they believed many of the statements that are made throughout the Bible, both New and Old Testament, were not meant to be the standard in which Christians were to be held at today because times have changed and changes in beliefs are to be made as society and culture changes. In this _____ the term mother will refer to ______. In a study done, the mothers working schedule was evaluated in order to see if it was correlated with the child s behavior. This study was mainly focused on low income mothers working a non traditional schedule, the nightshift or graveyard shift. The results were what would be expected, that children experience a higher aggression behavior if their mothers took a nightshift job than if the mother did not work. (QUOTE) This is partly due to the fact that although mothers are physically present when their children arrive home, they may not be fully mentally there. That is, mothers who work at night may be exhausted in the morning due to the lack of sleep. Instead of paying attention to the child, their minds might be wondering somewhere else. The reader would think this because of the simple vocabulary, and also if you notice, the poem uses soft alliteration little lamb this gave a much softer feel to the poem, obviously putting one in mind of children and their innocence. Blake was a very holy and pious person. He often out biblical discourse into many of his poems, as I have stated before. I found some plain biblical tones in The Lamb the next quotation shows this point. He is meek, and he is mild . . . became a little child . His first use of satire may be overlooked by many. Twain s decision to set the novel in a time where slavery was allowed, despite the book being published in 1959, is one of his ways of making fun of American society. This detail mocks how little progress the United States made with civil rights in the century. Twain continues to mock ideals such as religion, family feuds, and greed, all of which were engrained in American society during his life time. • 38. Drug Testing And The Workplace In many years, companies adopted many programs to monitor substance abuse in the workplace. The implementation of drug testing by companies grew in recent years. American workers have seen a dramatic increase in the use of drug testing in the previous years. Drug testing is implemented to assure safe workplaces for American workers. Drug testing can reduce the company s health care and insurance costs. Even though drug testing has become common in the workplace, there is little research that exists regarding this matter. Overall, drug testing affects the decisions of workers by adopting a zero tolerance policy. Experienced users try to beat these tests by using drug to cancel the tracking of the drug itself. These workers attempt to avoid the detection of drug use for long periods (Borack, 1995). Literature implies that employee drug use in the workplace may create high costs to firms in the form of lower productivity, increased absences, and an increase in workplace accidents. As a response to these costs, employers have implemented a variety of policies and programs to decrease employee drug use. Educational programs and standards such as Zero Tolerance policies, employers have turned to drug testing programs more in the past decades. About 46 percent of American workers report that their employer conducts drug testing, although other sources indicate that 90 percent of Fortune 200 companies use some type of drug testing (Flynn 1999). • 42. Historical Background Of The Golden Summer Of 1991 (III) The Golden Summer of 1991 A] Historical Background: India followed Import Substitution Industrialization policy up to 1991. The major highlights of this policy included significant restrictions on imports (ensured by high tariffs and import control), limited incentives to private sector, a large public sector (with focus on heavy industries) and an overvalued exchange rate. Furthermore, there were restrictions on consumer goods too. Quantitative restrictions such as import licensing and exchange control existed too. All of these policy measures were part and parcel of what is known as barriers to an economy. The quantitative restrictions prevented the opening up of the Indian economy. This metal reserve, in turn, could be used in emergency situations to pay for wars or solve shortages. Colonies, like those England had in North America, played an important part in this economic equation. They could help England become self sufficient by producing things that could not be made or grown there such as tobacco, sugar, and tall masts for ships. Colonists could also provide a market for British goods, particularly manufactured products, such as woolen cloth or beaver hats. This meant that the home economy in England could become more fully developed, while the colonial economies were relegated to a role of supplying raw materials. To insure that the American colonies would contribute to this overall sense of British wealth, various Navigation Acts were passed beginning in 1650 to regulate trade between the colonies, England, and the rest of the world. Back then; I did not understand the urgency of it, since in my home country, the Philippines, insurance coverage differed based on the type of care delivered. Fee for service reimbursements are used for inpatient care, most day surgeries, and ambulatory procedures, while primary care providers are reimbursed based on a capitation system. There are no formal system sets deductibles or co payments for beneficiaries, but health care providers are allowed to balance bill , charging patients the balance between what the Philippine Health InsuranceCorporation a tax exempt tax exempt, government owned and government controlled corporation pays and the total cost of care. This is nonconforming of most government health programs around the world and can lead to abuse by providers such as overcharging and what not. Hence, the poorest of the country gets limited access. In the same manner, balance billing allows providers additional cost recovery in the case that the reimbursement for services does not cover their cost. The Battle Of The American Revolution The Battle of Yorktown was the last important battle of the American Revolution, which was fought from 28 September 1781 to 19 October 1781, in Yorktown Virginia, near the York River. General Cornwallis was force to surrender after Washington s army, assisted by the French who were led by Marquis de Lafayette and the Comte de Rochambeau (Davis, P., 2001), surrounded them. General Washington use of misinformation and counterintelligence was very effective in turning the battle in their favor. If the British had validated the information by conducting such operations of their own they could have identified the misinformation in a timely manner. In Acts 3:19, Peter says, Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord. One cannot enter into a relationship with God without repentance, which is why it is the first essential element of the church. Repentance and faith in Christ turns a person away from his or her sin and allows that person to enter into the grace of God. Repentance is a central command of Christ to the church, and so it must be a central command in our churches today. The second characteristic Peter considers to be essential is baptism. Millions of tourists visit Hawai i annually to forget their worries within this universally perceived paradise. For the indigenous people of Hawai i, whose ancestors have cultivated this land for generations, the idea of paradise only conceals the enduring oppression that dictates their reality. The oppression of native Hawaiians emerged during the 18th century with the attempts of western settlers to colonize the archipelago and impose their beliefs on to the natives. Along with them came diseases that collapsed the native population, while introduced plant and animal species devastated the archipelago s delicate ecosystem.
