 Social media has significantly changed the way
people communicate at home and at work. In
addition, social media platforms present great
opportunities for businesses today.
 According to Nielsen, internet users continue to
spend more time with social media sites than any
other type of site.

What is Social Media?
 According to Wikipedia - “Social media are
computer-mediated tools that allow people or
companies to create, share, or exchange
information, career interests, ideas, and
pictures/videos in virtual communities and
networks.”
 On Social Media, the freedom of information
find complete expression as people in virtual
communities are in control of what they
create, share or exchange without restrictions,
limits or boundaries.

Why Social Recruiting Matters
According to Jobvite, Social recruiting has gone from novel trend to normal
activity, with 93% of recruiters currently using or planning to use social networks
as part of their recruiting efforts (based on their 2014 Social Recruiting Survey).
 Social recruiting saves you money. Posting and sharing job ads on many social
media networks, however, is completely free (except for paid job ads). Plus,
given the viral power of social media, your reach extends exponentially
without costing anything extra.
 Social recruiting helps you build and sustain a strong employment brand. Your
employment brand is critical to your ability to attract and retain star
performers. And today, nothing provides a clearer snapshot of who you are
and what you stand for than social media.
 Social recruiting doesn’t just help you find talent—it helps you find
better talent. Social networks allow you to quickly identify and connect
with people who already share an interest in your company and who
possess the skills you seek faster.

 Decide What You Plan to Achieve Using Social Media – Talent Sourcing,
Employment Branding, Talent Pipelining, Talent Community, etc.
 Decide Which Social Network to be Active on – It is impossible to be active on
all social networks. Which Social Network are your target audience/talent? Go
with the top 3 – LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.
 Draw Up a Social Media Policy to Guide Social Recruiting Efforts – This would
cover use of personal social media profiles or Corporate profiles, who is
authorized to use corporate accounts, frequency of social media posts etc.
 Aim for Social media Engagement and Transparency – be human on social
media and don’t appear as a robot. Let prospective applicants understand
what it is like within your organisation – show them not tell them (use videos,
podcasts, blog posts etc.) Engage your talent community often (use Twitter
chats, LinkedIn Group etc.)
 Remember to Use Social Monitoring Tools – Use Google Alerts, Topsy,
Tweetdeck, etc.

Overview  The employment landscape has significantly changed by the advent of growing technology and in recent times by the advent social media.  Social media has significantly changed the way people communicate at home and at work. Posting and sharing job ads on many social media networks, however, is completely free (except for paid job ads). Plus, given the viral power of social media, your reach extends exponentially without costing anything extra.  Social recruiting helps you build and sustain a strong employment brand. Your employment brand is critical to your ability to attract and retain star performers. And today, nothing provides a clearer snapshot of who you are and what you stand for than social media.  Social recruiting doesn’t just help you find talent—it helps you find better talent. Effective Social Recruiting Strategy  Decide What You Plan to Achieve Using Social Media – Talent Sourcing, Employment Branding, Talent Pipelining, Talent Community, etc.  Decide Which Social Network to be Active on – It is impossible to be active on all social networks. Which Social Network are your target audience/talent? Go with the top 3 – LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.  Draw Up a Social Media Policy to Guide Social Recruiting Efforts – This would cover use of personal social media profiles or Corporate profiles, who is authorized to use corporate accounts, frequency of social media posts etc.  Aim for Social media Engagement and Transparency – be human on social media and don’t appear as a robot. Let prospective applicants understand what it is like within your organisation – show them not tell them (use videos, podcasts, blog posts etc.) Engage your talent community often (use Twitter chats, LinkedIn Group etc.)  Remember to Use Social Monitoring Tools – Use Google Alerts, Topsy, Tweetdeck, etc. 35 © Crescita Consult 2016
