Objectives
Background
ESP and EC values are consistently
correlated, but EC isn’t enough to
classify soils as saline
ESP and BSP are high and also
correlated each other, due to
exchangeable Na+ and Ca++/ Na+,
respectively
Clayey soils, besides water table
behavior, very low TOC, climate and
human activities accelerate salinization

Soils are sodic mainly at lower parts of valley (Based on the NRCS – US
Salinity Lab Classification). The ratio of either(2CO3
2- + HCO3
-) or Na+ over (Cl- +
2SO4
2-) should be considered for classifying salt-affected soils (Chhabra, 2005)
