2. The negative form

3. Types of Past Simple
1) The regular past verb: [ -ed ]
looked / moved / stopped /studied
2) The irregular past verb:
a. buy / bought - teach / taught
b. cut / cut
- hit / hit
c. come / came - go / went - do / did
4. When do we use simple past?
We use simple past with:
1) Yesterday / ago / last …. / 2011 / the previous
just before / this morning once upon a time
2) If clause (type 2)
3) When + subj + v2 , subj + v2
4) While + subj + [was/were] + -ing , subj + v2
5. Past Continuous
[I / he / she / it ] + was (n’t) + [V1+-ing]
e.g. He was sleeping.
[they / we / you] + were (n’t)+ [V1+-ing]
e.g. They were playing football.
6. When do we use past continuous?
We use past continuous with:
1) While / As
e.g. While he was running, he fell down.
2) from…..to (past time)
e.g. The boys were playing football from 7.oo
to 8.00 yesterday.
3) At + (time in the past)
e.g. What were you doing at 9.00 last night?
