Editor's Notes
Hello! My colleagues and I from CA Technologies thank you for giving us the opportunity to speak with you as we realize you are quite busy.
Before we go into details about how we can help you, let me first tell you that you are not alone.Let’s look at some of the pains that companies like yours have.
There’s the old way of doing things and then we have the new way. In today’s world, one horsepower just won’t cut it. This has proven to be risky, underpowered, and unpredictable. The question is, do we stay with our old ways? Over the next few minutes, I’m going to show you what is at stake if you don’t change your old ways and don’t use innovative technologies that can quickly adapt to your company’s Data Management demands.
Businesses are collectively losing $26.5 billion in revenue each year through IT downtime and data recovery. On average, individual companies lose $159,331 per year. Businesses collectively suffer from 1,661,321 hours of IT downtime each year. That’s an average of 10 hours per company.
Post IT downtime, (that is, when IT systems are up and running), there’s an additional delay of 7.5 hours per year at each firm during which time data is still being recovered. That’s another 1,255,220 hours when business operations aren’t fully operational. During these periods, when business-critical systems are interrupted, companies estimate that their ability to generate revenue is reduced by 29%.48% of companies believe downtime negatively impacts their brand and reputation. More than 34% of companies would be unable to meet compliance and regulatory commitments due to downtime.50% of organizations revealed that IT outages can damage a company’s reputation.18% thought this would be “very damaging.”
87% of businesses indicated that failure to recover data would be damaging to the business. 23% said this would be “disastrous.”33% of organizations surveyed did not have a fully developed and formal disaster recovery policy in place. 20% reported that a policy is currently being developed, and the remaining 13% have no formal policy planned.
It is clear that you need something better. You want to be able to ensure the business is running and protected; you want to make sure that in a data loss scenario, you can quickly recover and prevent any loss of productivity and revenue.
So what are we going to talk about today? We’ll talk about how we can provide our customers with seamless data protection and availability management based on the cost, risk, and business value of the data.
The basic problem is that: An IT department has to determine the best approach to avoid any downtime. IT Managers and Administrators need to have the ability to recover systems and data quickly and efficiently, as a loss of service equals loss of staff productivity and revenue.
Data Management products today have to be flexible in providing different methods of protection including on-premise protection concepts such as backing up to local disk, Bare Metal Recovery, onsite replication and high availability, and backing up to tape, as well as off-premise protection providing replication and high availability capabilities for disaster recovery while supporting the migration or archiving of data to the cloud. While this may seem like a complex solution, with the right tools, it’s easier than you think.
Let’s go FAST. Let’s review how ARCserve D2D fits into this solution. CA ARCserve D2D provides the ability to rapidly restore files, volumes, databases, or the entire system to any server in both physical and virtual environments from a single pass backup. You should know that CA ARCserve Backup is the only product that combines data deduplication, integrated backup copy to cloud storage, granular restore of applications like Active Directory, Exchange, and SharePoint, infrastructure visualization, and archiving – for both physical and virtual servers – in a single package.
I have to ask:Wouldn’t your life be different today if you were able to recover a Server, Desktop, or Laptop from the ground up to a similar or different hardware configuration? You can do that in minutes with CA ARCserve D2D by leveraging the Bare Metal Recovery features.
How about being able to perform a quick, full, and or granular restoration of your database, or applications such as MS SQL and MS Exchange, which are critical for any business, ensuring your applications are available for use, while maintaining staff productivity and saving revenue.
With CA ARCserve D2D going to the cloud is as easy as 1-2-3.The File Copy/Archive feature in ARCserve D2D enables you to copy and move mission-critical data to and from disk and cloud destinations based on user-specified archival and retention criteria. This enables built-in redundancy and off-site protection in the event local recovery points or storage repositories are compromised. File Copy can help save significant costs on local storage reserves and help you meet regulatory compliance standards in preserving data with multiple versions over longer periods of time.
If you thought that was good, CA ARCserve® D2D Central Applications are web-based applications that unify and centralize the tasks associated with securing and protecting mission-critical systems and data across the entire organization. From Centralized Management and Reporting to new advancements in virtualization and cloud-based backup and recovery, ARCserve Central Protection Applications bring a whole new level of ease of use and manageability to the ARCserve Family of Products. Let’s look at how we can go fast with CA ARCserve D2D Central Applications .
Let’s look at the CA ARCserve Protection Manager first. Businesses need ease of use and simplification. CA ARCserve® Central Protection Manager provides a centralized view and management of all ARCserve D2D protected servers and workstations reducing IT workload through simplified policy-based administration.
CA ARCserve® Central Reporting provides centralized reporting on all ARCserve D2D and ARCserve Backup managed devices, settings, and policies running on- and off-premise so you can easily understand what is happening across your environment.
CA ARCserve® Central Host-based VM Backup uses ARCserve D2D to protect a single VMware host environment, performing backup of all VMs via a single-pass backup without having to install ARCserve D2D inside each VM.It enables granular recovery of files and folders from each individual VM and the restore of supported applications running within a VM, simplifying protection and recovery of your virtual servers.
CA ARCserve® Central Virtual Standby makes CA ARCserve D2D backups available to run like regular VMware Virtual Disk (vmdk) or Microsoft Virtual Hard Disk (vhd) virtual servers. It automatically pre-registers each recovery point with the hypervisor for immediate recovery as a VM, should a system outage occur. The recovery transfer time is eliminated, and VMs can be “powered on” manually or automatically when needed to provide near-instantaneous recovery or simple migration from a physical server to a virtual server.
Now that we have reviewed a quick and easy way to perform local data protection, we know that you still require the ability to store data to tape not just disk, as well as protect various applications on physical and virtual servers with granular restore capabilities such as Oracle, MS-SQL, MS-Exchange, and platforms such as Linux, and UNIX.
Let’s go BROAD and take a closer look at CA ARCserve Backup. CA ARCserve® Backup goes beyond backup, giving businesses highly reliable data protection with centralized management that makes sense, no matter how complex your data or IT infrastructure is. You should know that CA ARCserve Backup is the only product that combines data deduplication, integrated backup copy to cloud storage, granular restore of applications like Active Directory, Exchange and SharePoint, infrastructure visualization, and archiving – for both physical and virtual servers – in a single package.
You can use Synthetic Full Backups to reduce your backup windows, staging them to disk and then to tape providing you with quick local recovery capabilities as well as storing data at an off-site location. CA ARCserve Backup also auto discovers your VMware and Hyper-V virtualized server environment and enables image-based backups with granular restore without the need for a staging server.
CA ARCserve Backup can reduce your backup storage by up to 95 percent and gain back precious time as it is the only product that includes data deduplication at no additional licensing costs. In summary, only the blocks that change within a file will be backed up on a daily basis, resulting in reduced disk space and tape requirements.
You can even Archive data to the cloud. CA ARCserve Backup provides the ability to archive or migrate backup data to cloud storage. The cloud devices are available within CA ARCserve Backup as a final destination device for staging or migration.
As this is one family, you can integrate CA ARCserve Backup with CA ARCserve D2D providing a single catalog to recover data regardless of how it was backed up. And management and reporting on these tools is easy, integrating with CA ARCserve Central Reporting Application gives you a single pane of glass reporting capability for your CA ARCserve Family of Products environment.
So far we have talked about backup and recovery. But to meet more demanding service level agreements and disaster recovery strategies, you need more than just generic backup and restore. Let’s go FAR with CA ARCserve Replication and CA ARCserve High Availability complement backup and restore, and provide you with continuous data protection and system availability.
CA ARCserve® Replication provides continuous data protection for Windows, Linux and UNIX systems on physical and virtual systems. You get an easy way to migrate and copy data between severs and locations, as well as between remote offices and a central site for backup and archiving. It delivers LAN and WAN continuous and periodic replication, whether on-premise, or off-premise.
CA ARCserve® High Availability includes all ARCserve Replication features and adds continuous system, application, and data availability for your critical systems. It provides server and application monitoring, automated and push-button failover and push-button failback to reduce risk to your sales, service, operations, employee productivity, and reputation. For example, in the event that a disaster occurs at the primary location where application connectivity is lost, an automatic or manual failover will occur to the secondary location and/or Cloud location, taking over as the primary site. Application access is maintained for the end users, and there is no data or productivity loss.
Another challenge that you face is being able to test your Disaster Recovery process. CA ARCserve Replication and CA ARCserve High Availability include automated non-disruptive recovery testing to ensure your systems, applications, and data are available when you need them. No longer will you lose sleep at night wondering if you can recover your servers and applications in the event of a disaster.
Let’s not forget, you may have many locations and remote offices that all require data protection.
You can use CA ARCserve D2D for local backup, restore, and BMR, and then use CA ARCserve Replication to copy backups off-site to a central location for disaster recovery.
Alternatively, you can use CA ARCserve Replication at all remote or branch offices and consolidate your data at a central location such as your data center or DR site. After the initial synchronization, CA ARCserve Replication only transmits byte-level changes across the WAN and provides WAN-optimization features so you get continuous data protection with minimal bandwidth requirements. Then, you can use CA ARCserve Backup or CA ARCserve D2D to perform backups at the central location without worrying about backup window constraints.
I know we’ve covered a lot but it would be quite beneficial for you to see the entire solution at work, providing cost effective hybrid local, remote, and cloud data protection, while also providing a best-of-breed, integrated solution.
So you now should be ready to go FAST, BROAD, and FAR with CA ARCserve Backup, CA ARCserve High Availability, and CA ARCserve D2D.
