2. Who is going to be the core buyer of
your magazine?
๏ The core buyer of my magazine are 58% female 17-24 year olds.
๏ From my readership profile I can see that 58% females-making
my magazine more โfemaleโ orientated BUT I am still trying to
target males just not as equally. I found from my questionnaire
that males didn't care too much about colour schemes and
designs, so it was okay that I orientated around more of a
feminine style YET made it more multi gender and interpreted
the colour blue into the repetitive colour scheme involving guys
more so into the magazine.
๏ 17-22-I had to ensure that I involved social networks especially
into my magazine as many young people of today, lives revolve
around the internet and social networks. Due to the fact that my
core buyers are of a young age, involving festivals and gigs is
very important also as stereotypically that is what young people
like doing, I found from my readership profile and various other
pieces of research that I carried out that these things were
important.
3. Core buyer...indie/mainstream
From my โFind your tribeโ research I found out things that link to my โindieโ target
audience. I found the research very beneficial yet think the research can apply to
most people, which is good as I am trying to appeal to a wider audience.

๏ This applies to most people-most people especially between my target audience
age group own an IPod.
๏ โWhen you're not at a gigโ this implies that my indie target audience spend a lot of
their time โat gigsโ therefore interrupting โgigsโ similar sorts of things such as
โfestivalsโ was a good idea as my core buyer enjoy attending such events. The fact
that I offered โfree Reading Festival ticketsโ again is seen as a good thing, as โfreeโ
things always โpullโ customers into reading magazines as they feel they are โgaining
something extraโ from the magazine. As you can see from the print screens of my
flat plan I have included a series of pages involving information on gigs and tours. I
also gave similar information on my double page spread linking to my main article
within the magazine โa new indie singerโ. As she is unknown, this again draws in my
core buyer as I found from my readership profile that being up to date and listening
to new music is important.

For my magazine I have tried to interpret all of these things to appeal to my core buyer and also
relate to a cross of mainstream/indie music and attract a large range of people. I included the
chance to win tickets to Reading Festival and also a chance for a four day holiday with the
โbiggest star of the momentโ (who is a indie singer-good because she would attract indie
lovers to my magazine but due to the fact that she is popular would attract mainstream
lovers). I included a learning aspect of learning the guitar into my magazine as I found in my
research that 70% of my target audience would like to learn the guitar. When compared to
other magazine I have used a range of cover lines to attract my audience. The want for a
busy layout is certainly shown on my contents page and an interview and pictures are used
on my double page spread and throughout the whole of my magazine. I have used lots of
colours, but have also kept to a pink, blue and yellow colour scheme to attract
females, males and the yellow to stand out and to get the magazine noticed. Lastly my
magazine is being priced at ยฃ2.10 which is nearer the lover wanted price of the
magazine, again drawing more of my core buyers in.
5. Describe your target audience
Just under half, 48% are still studying. Meaning that just under half f
Soundwaves readers spend most of their week studying, the other 52%
work. As a whole, from my readership profile you can see that

topshop/Topman, vans (indie/mainstream shoes)
A lot of their time consists of:

Blackberries and I phones are the two most popular phones of today and
are also the most popular between my target audience.
In my readership profile you can see that my readers โregularly attend gigs
and festivalsโ.
Lastly, most of their disposable income is spend on clothing because as
you can see from my readership profile that โlooking goodโ is very
important to my audience.
6. how important is being the first to
know/ buy things to them?
From my readership profile I found that:
โReaders like lots of information on new and current bandsโ
This shows that having up to date information on bands/artists is very
important, which is why in my magazine my main article/front cover surrounded a
new artist who also linked into my indie/mainstream approach. On my front cover
I also showed a reader as soon as they look at the magazine that other
information is included about new and current bands.
โItโs important to be up to date with current information- 91%โ
This shows that my readers want up to date information, things that other magazine
don't have. Including my main article/front cover revolving around a new indie
singer is beneficial to my magazine as my readers think its important to have
information on new artists the fact that the information in the magazine about this
new artist is โexclusiveโ again creates a positive effect as the term โexclusiveโ
creates the effect that nobody else will have this information making my
magazine seem โone of a kindโ and โspecial luring customers into buying my
magazine.
Itโs important to look well dressed-79%
This shows that looking well dressed is very important. Creating the impression that
my readers like wearing up to date clothing as well as having up to date
information on artists. As 79% agree with this statement it creates the impression
that being the first to buy things is very important whether it clothes or the latest
issue of Soundwave!

My core buyers fall into these three categories:

My core audience fit into the psychographic profiles:
Mainstreamer: Someone in search of security, belonging and
routine
And
Explorer: Someone desiring discovery, challenge and new
experiences
My target audience will consist of Mainstreamers because my
target audience like to purchase a magazine with a repetitive
colour scheme and style. My magazine offers information on new
and existing artists showing a routine in the contents of the
magazine. My core buyers can feel a belonging as the music
included will be what a lot of other people are listening to.
Furthermore, my target audience will also consist of people who
are โexplorersโ, people who like going to festivals and
discovering new artist on the โintroducingโ stages, meeting
random people on campsites and exploring eventful nightlife.
People who enjoy listening to a variety of different genres of
music and also challenging themselves to learn such instruments
such as the guitar.
