2. In 2007, Rahman's soundtrack from the movie Bombay was included in The
Guardian's "1000 Albums to Hear Before You Die" list. Remember the song
‘Kehna Hi Kya’ from the movie? It was included in their "1000 Songs
Everyone Must Hear" list in 2009.

3. Rahman, along with film maker Shekhar Kapoor, recently
launched their own social media platform called 'Qyuki',
to showcase raw talent in the country. It's wing 'Melange',
especially, focuses on music content created by new artists.

8. • Long back, Rahman was a keyboardist in a
band called Nemesis Avenue along with singer
Suresh Peters. He was also part of Roots, a
band with now famous percussionist Anandan
Sivamani. Can you spot Rahman in

. 2006 Hollywood movie “Inside Man”, starring
Denzel Washington, used Rahman’s song
“Chaiyya Chaiyya” for the opening credits. A
remix of the song, titled "Chaiyya, Chaiyya
Bollywood Joint" plays during the end credits.

9. The theme which Rahman created for the
movie Bombay has been picked up
internationally by many artists. It’s used in
a French TV commercial, a 2002 Palestinian
film called Divine Intervention, the 1996 film
Fire by Deepa Mehta, and also in the
2005 Nicolas Cage movie Lord Of War.
. Although we know that Rahman converted to
Islam later in life, how many of us know that
his original name was Dileep Kumar? That's
not all, his wife’s name is Saira Banu! What a
coincidence!

10. • He converted to Islam, his mother's religion, at the
age of 23. When in 1983, his younger sister fell
seriously ill, he was introduced to Qadri Islam. It's
when she made a miraculous comeback to life that he
decided to convert to Islam.
• Initially Rahman wanted to become an engineer. But
he got hooked to the keyboard his father gifted him. He
started playing with South music composer Illayaraja
after his father passed away at the age of 9.
• By 2004, Rahman had become one of the world’s top
selling recording artists. He had sold more than 150
million records of his soundtracks, and over 200
million cassettes. He also made it to Time Magazine’s
list of World’s Most Influential People in 2009.
