This was the first question on my questionnaire, I
asked this question so that I could have an idea of
what sort of audience I would be tailoring my
magazine towards. Since 95% of my target audience
appear to be female and only 5% appear to be male,
I now know that the elements of my school magazine
should be based on female interests, I can use
feminine colours like pink and purple and also light
greens. I now know that the features in my magazine
should be of female interest, possibly boy bands and
makeup sales.

I included this question in my survey to see what sort of an age
group my target audience would fall into. Over 73% of the
audience who answered this question are aged between 17 to
18, giving me the indication that my target audience are in
sixth form. This helps me a lot as I can now think about things
to include in my magazine that will interest a sixth form
audience such as UCAS points and how to earn them, career
quizzes etc. Being sixth form myself, I can think about what
sort of things would interest me, I can also ask fellow sixth
formers in my classes what would interest them and
incorporate these ideas into my magazine.

I have included this particular question because there would
be absolutely no point in creating a school magazine if no one
is going to read it, meaning no one will buy it and no one
makes any profit. Almost 95% of those questioned said they
would be interested in a school magazine, this is a fantastic
result as it lets me know that people will want to read the
magazine I create and will want to purchase it.

Nothing
This question was included in my questionnaire so that
I could get an idea of how much to charge for the
magazine that I will create. The most popular answer
was ‘nothing’ meaning that students would like to
receive the magazine for free, following closely behind
in the answers are 75p and 50p, obviously I can’t give
it away for free or the magazine would make no profit
but I will settle for the cheapest price which is 50p as
the results show that students are not willing to pay
much money for a typical school magazine. These
results have really helped me in terms of pricing.

I included this question so that I could get a feel for what my
target audience are interested in so that I can include the
most popular interests in my magazine in the form of
features and pictures, this will make my magazine seem more
desirable to my target audience. The most popular interest
was music/drama as 45% of the people surveyed ticked this
box. This is great information as I now know that I will
interest my audience by adding in articles about the music
and drama industry, upcoming drama and music events in
the school etc. This will entice a huge percent of my target
audience.

I include this slide so that I could see what the
favourite subjects of my target audience are so
that I can include articles about the most
popular subject. The most popular subject
seems to be drama so I will include features,
pictures, prizes and upcoming events all to do
with drama to make my magazine seem more
appealing to the majority of students.

I created this question to see how often my target
audience would like the school magazine to be
published, the most popular answer is ‘monthly’ with
almost 80% of the votes. This helps me as I now know
the times of the year when students in the school will
wish to purchase my magazine so I can spend time
putting a whole month’s worth of features, pictures
and upcoming events etc into the monthly school
magazine.

I created this question so that I could get my target
audience’s perspective on what the most suitable title
for my school magazine would be. I narrowed down to
final three ideas, cor unum, St Catherine’s college and
school magazine. Cor Unum was initially my favourite
but I wanted the opinion of my fellow students first.
These results show that my gut instinct was right
because 55% of those questioned agreed with me that
Cor unum was the best title.

I created this question to see what my target
audience felt would be the most appropriate
main image for the cover of the magazine. The
most popular answer was a picture of the school
at an answer rate of 35%, this has helped me a lot
because I now know what to include at the centre
of my front cover and what is going to catch my
audience’s eye. The other answers were not that
far off the most popular one but I still think it’s
best to go with the majority’s vote.

I created this question so that I could get an idea of
what my target audience thinks the most appropriate
colour scheme for the magazine would be. The most
popular colour scheme appears to be the typical
school colours of green, yellow and red, I think it is a
good idea to use these colours as it keeps in with the
theme of the school, after all it is a school magazine.
These results really helped me to decide on the colour
scheme as I wasn’t really sure before.
