Ref: Richard C. Close CV with Project Background1st January 2015
Dear Collegue,
I will finish my Master’s Degree in Instructional Design with Full Sail
University at the end of July 2015. With over 25 years in the learning industry
experience ranging from Microsoft to working with poverty/trauma in
Bridgeport CT and Africa I am searching a position that will leverage both my
instructional design skills and background in transformational learning. My
mission is to leverage technology and global resources to transform lives.
My seasoned background includes two years of substitute teaching in the
Ridgefield, CT Public School System in all grade levels (from kindergarten,
Special Ed to AP level classes in high school). In addition, the completion
of 18 Masters level credits of Adult Learning with SUNY combined with
20 plus yeas of corporate and poverty learning programs provides a
contextual insight into how to leverage technology in the classroom.
My specialization also includes direct experience in handling trauma,
diversity and the impact of poverty on learners in both the US and Africa.
My work with how educators can use simple PowerPoint templates to
facilitate Project Based Learning in a STEM robotics and auto shop class
was presented in the Global Education Conference in the fall of 2014. The
images on the last page of this CV will hyperlink to the sample documents.
In the use of technology in the human context, I developed an educational
social network called, “I am Africa. This is my story...” for UNESCO. This
included the building of the Ning network, workshop lessons and the
delivery of workshops in Africa. In addition, I built the first profitable
technology center, Netlan Technology Center, in New York City.
Although the breath of my experience is very broad (Google search
“richardcclose”) I am looking into settling into a challenging academic
environment where I can be of assistance to both faculty and students.
Sincerely,
Richard C. Close

ABOUT MEPROFESSIONAL STATEMENT
REFERENCES
My goal is to leverage instructional design and
media technology for the purpose of empowering
individuals to transform themselves.
With over 30 years in NGO, public education and
corporate in learning technologies I have acquired a
depth knowledge about what is contextually practical
and works in transforming the human spirit.
I was brought up in the idyllic town of Larchmont,
NY, in the shadow of NYC. I recieved a BS in Human
Development, minoring in education from SUNY
and ended up in corporate marketing for firms
such as GE Information System, MCI International
and Keane. Due to my trouble shooting skills, I
embraced the life as an independent consultant
in the IT learning business helping startups and
assisted in turn arounds with clients such as: IBM,
Microsoft, Global Knowledge Network, Oracle, Sun
Micro Systems and a number of eLearning firms.
In 2003, I went to help at the Bridgeport Rescue
Mission and fell in love with the world of poverty
and trauma. This was followed up by four trips to
Africa for documentation and leadership training.
This started a process of developing programs and
methods for human transformation and collaborative
learning now called the Global Learning Framework.

Like a car without a driver, instructional technology and social media
are empty without human context in it. As educators, trainers and
mentors, our task is to provide our students with ways to learn that
are relevant and sensitive to the diverse issues in the human race.
When using technology in the classroom or when mentoring, we
must keep in mind that instructional design does not replace human
touch, rather it supplements the process. ID can facilitate making
ideas clear and free the teacher/mentor from repetitive instruction.
ID enables the educator to put more attention on individual learning.
Even in eLearning, the student must validate knowledge in real world
experiences for content be absorbed. If ID wants real transformation,
its images and stories must dig deep into the human experience.
