2. I have edited this image by enhancing the levels on
Photoshop and adding more vibrancy - adding more
contrast and vibrancy to the image so that the colours
would be more noticeable and interesting. There was no
need for me to cut the background out and colour the new
background in white to make it more professional and
studio like, as I have already captured it in a studio like
environment against a white/grey wall. I did not want it to
be completely white as that is very plain and boring, grey is
much more rare and natural looking.
The image was also cropped from all sides to make the face take
up most of the page and for it to be the centre of attention right
below the masthead. And so that the sell lines would fit
perfectly all around the face and the hair. The image was
manipulated so that the flash would appear underneath it and
so that the face overlaps the flash – this also undermines that
the model is very important for this front cover.

3. The image was
cropped from its
original size for it
to fit better on the
page. The space
behind the
model/in the
background has all
been blurred to put
emphasis on the
model.
The colours have
been brightened by
60% to achieve a
more vibrant look –
especially the
colours on the
model. The hair
colour was edited
to make it look
lighter/more
blonde.

4. The image on the right achieved a brighter look
because the levels on Photoshop have been
increased. More brightness and contrast was
added. The sharpness was significantly increased
to add a high quality feel to it.
To get the image from the previous stage to this stage I
have simply cropped all the background from it and
deleted it – Photoshop is the only programme which
allowed me to do this precisely and successfully. And then
I inserted it into my magazine without a background so
that it overlaps the other parts of the contents page.

5. This image was originally taken outside on a field with
the sun behind the subject of the image so I had to do
several stages of editing to lighten it – especially the
body. This image was cropped so that the model
would take up the whole photograph.
The face features were added contrast and sharpness to,
to define them. As well as increasing the levels to make
the image look more professional. It will appear small
on the contents page in the centre.

6. The background was smudged/blurred out to make
it look more professional as well as to create a main
focus in the photograph.
The colours were slightly brightened again, and the
sharpness was increased.

7. In this image the levels were used slightly, but not
too much so that the image would still look natural.
This image was not cropped as I liked the white/grey
background (wall). I have decided not to photoshop
the background into all white (just colour it in)
because that is very over used in all magazines and it
looks boaring (that is what I founf out from my
questionnaire responces). So I left it as it is but just
added more contrast and sharpness.
