  2. 2. Stage 1<br />Installed W7 RC onto IT Managers laptop<br />Trailed laptop on live system for 2-3 weeks<br />Impressed by speed of install and software/hardware compatibility<br />Main problems was finger print recognition driver on Sony Vaio<br />

Stage 2<br />Installed W7 RC onto IT Support Engineers laptops<br />Trailed laptops on live system for 2-3 weeks<br />Impressed by speed of install and software/hardware compatibility<br />4 laptops installed within 2 hours<br />Main problems was finger print recognition driver on Toshiba Tablet<br />Also had problems getting tablet function to work<br />

Stage 3<br />Installed W7 onto 15 different spec and aged machines<br />Impressed by speed of install and software/hardware compatibility<br />All 15 machines, installed and within AD within 4 hours<br />4 copies of W7 on DVD’s used<br />No major problems.<br />Machines being used by various employees of the school including Admin, Estates and Theatre<br />Machines within own AD OU with new GPOs<br />

Stage 4<br />Installed W7 onto 20 identical spec machines<br />Install was via WDS<br />Impressed by speed of install and software/hardware compatibility<br />All 20 machines, installed and within AD within a morning<br />No major problems.<br />Machines being used by students within an ICT Suite<br />
  6. 6. Stage 5<br />To be installed Oct 2009<br />Installation of W7 onto 26 same spec machines using MDT 2010<br />Findings to be published late October<br />
  7. 7. Stage 6<br />To be installed Christmas 2009<br />Installation of W7 onto all boarding house machines using MDT 2010<br />Findings to be published late October<br />

Conclusion<br />General consensus is both staff and pupils very satisfied with speed and new features<br />Few minor problems with drivers<br />No major logging in issues<br />I believe in a staged approach and would recommend it to all schools considering W7<br />Make sure IT Support staff are fluent first before any other users within the school<br />
