Challenges <ul><li>Cost </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Deploying Windows 7 has allowed the school to use their existing computers (up to 3 years old) in the new school </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Time </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Microsoft Deployment Toolkit has helped to speed up the deployment of the client computers </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Change </li></ul><ul><ul><li>4 networks to 1, new OS, new version of Office </li></ul></ul>

Group Policy Challenges <ul><li>Staff are issued with a laptop which can be used at home </li></ul><ul><li>Their work needs to sync with the laptop, but not sync when they log in to a desktop </li></ul><ul><li>This is achieved with WMI filtering of GPOs so that syncing only happens on there laptop </li></ul>

Successes <ul><li>School opened on time! </li></ul><ul><li>1300 pupils and 100+ staff all using Windows 7 </li></ul><ul><li>Only 2 MDT task sequences used to deploy all the schools computers </li></ul><ul><li>No negative comments about the new OS </li></ul><ul><li>All Teaching staff use SIMS Lesson Monitor as a RemoteApp via Wireless! </li></ul><ul><li>App-V extensively used to roll-out new applications </li></ul>

Remaining issues <ul><li>Start Menu – causing slow login? </li></ul><ul><li>IASO Backup software causing some problems </li></ul><ul><li>User provisioning has been problematic </li></ul><ul><li>Some user data failed to transfer </li></ul><ul><li>Need to deploy SCCM once the App-V apps are imported </li></ul>

Tips <ul><li>WMI filtering and Security Filtering for Group Policy Objects </li></ul><ul><li>Group Policy Preferences – we no longer need a login script at drives are mapped via GPO’s </li></ul><ul><li>MDT is a fantastic tool....and it’s free!! </li></ul><ul><li>MDOP – App-V is a real time saver! </li></ul>

Future Developments <ul><li>Wireless configured so that pupils and visitors can use their own laptops </li></ul><ul><li>More Terminal Servers hosting Applications that pupils can use remotely via Portal </li></ul><ul><li>Add Bitlocker to staff laptops </li></ul><ul><li>Every pupil has a device </li></ul>
