The word robot is usually used to refer to a
mechanical agent that performs one or more
tasks in which it mimics a human either
through programming or commands.

photographs, and even accurately launching
missiles at ground targets, without a pilot.

6. History
In 1940’s military robots date back to World
War II and the Cold War in the form of the
German Goliath Tracked Mines and the
Soviet teletanks.

1960s and '70s - Reconnaissance Drones,
which were airplane look-a-like robots, that
flew a great distance and gathered
information on a target.
1980s – The Robotic Ranger which was a
ground vehicle 2002 - First UAV Dogfight –
identical to the first reconnaissance drone,
except it also bombed targets rather than just
getting information.
9. Dragon Runner
Built for urban combat.
Has four wheels,15 inches long and 5 inches
in height.
Designed for areas too dangerous or
inaccessible for human soldiers.
Main use is to relay information such as
pictures back to the soldier.
10. TALON
A small, tracked military robot designed for
missions ranging from reconnaissance to
combat.
Grenade launcher, machine gun
and rifle can be placed on this
robot.
11. Packbot
Smaller and lighter than the TALON
Man-portable
Controlled by a Pentium processor
Packbot has a GPS system, an electronic
compass and temperature sensors built in.
Main use is to find out where
enemy is hiding,
but also searches for bombs
and other dangers.
