The giant monolithic Moai statues on Easter Island are among the most famous ancient mysteries. There are approximately 900 statues that were built more than 700 years ago by the Rapanui people to represent deceased ancestors or important chiefs. Local legends say the Moai walked to their destinations with divine power, but how the massive stone statues, some over 10 meters tall and weighing 82 tons, were transported remains unclear since the texts describing their construction have never been deciphered.
