Integrated – what, how, who, when & why?

Integrated – what, how, who, when & why? 
What is it? 
• theme & concept based, cross-curricular subject in which 
students approach ideas in a variety of ways 
• it is generally unable to be done in the traditional subject 
classroom 
Common elements in the units of work (7-10) involve a 
combination of the following: 
• individual & varied group work (2s or 3s, generally) 
• use of technology of some form 
• personal choice & justification of choice 
• differentiation of tasks 
• creative thinking 
• reflection during or after tasks
Who does it? 
• All students in Years 7, 8, 9 & 10 
• Each Year group has 8 Advisors in Years 7 & 8 
• Each Advisor works with a House group called an Advisory 
group, although groupings are varied throughout the year 
across units of work 
Units of work, classes and hours 
• At Loreto Normanhurst, there are 6 periods a day. 
• There are 29 teaching lessons & 1 Assembly lesson each week 
which means 58 lessons a fortnight. 
• In Year 8 Integrated, we meet 10 times each fortnight.

1) The Design Brief
Individual Roles 
• Each company will have 3 owners who will each have a 
different role to play in the development process. 
• You will be exposed to the skills and qualities required for 
these roles in workshops. 
• You will then negotiate with your other 2 group members 
which role you feel you are best suited for. 
• Once decided, each person will then specialise.
Team work 
• As a specialist, you will 
then work with your 
team members to 
produce the best public 
space development.

3) Public Space task stages 
You will be assessed throughout the processes to give you 
feedback as you work through the various stages
Marketing Consultant’s role 
Research into: 
• Marketing Tools 
• Colour use 
• Logo 
• Slogan 
• Business card 
They then needed to bring together all of their work & 
understanding in the form of their company website (an 
Edublog) 
As the website would be used in their company pitch, they 
needed to organise & store all relevant documents there, 
including the embedding of pdf & PowerPoint files produced 
by the other company members 
We created a Year 8 Slideshare account for this & gave 
students the login. 
Organisation of information was paramount to a good 
presentation.

• The Theme is the appearance of your blog 
• There are currently 222 themes from which to choose 
• This is perhaps the area that warrants the most amount of time 
due to trial & error 
• It really depends on purpose of the blog 
• Some are simple with one column whereas others have 2 or 3 
columns 
• Here is a link that compares the qualities of many themes on 
the edublogger.

  • 11. Integrated – what, how, who, when & why? What is it? • theme & concept based, cross-curricular subject in which students approach ideas in a variety of ways • it is generally unable to be done in the traditional subject classroom Common elements in the units of work (7-10) involve a combination of the following: • individual & varied group work (2s or 3s, generally) • use of technology of some form • personal choice & justification of choice • differentiation of tasks • creative thinking • reflection during or after tasks

Who does it? • All students in Years 7, 8, 9 & 10 • Each Year group has 8 Advisors in Years 7 & 8 • Each Advisor works with a House group called an Advisory group, although groupings are varied throughout the year across units of work Units of work, classes and hours • At Loreto Normanhurst, there are 6 periods a day. • There are 29 teaching lessons & 1 Assembly lesson each week which means 58 lessons a fortnight. • In Year 8 Integrated, we meet 10 times each fortnight.   • 29. Individual Roles • Each company will have 3 owners who will each have a different role to play in the development process. • You will be exposed to the skills and qualities required for these roles in workshops. • You will then negotiate with your other 2 group members which role you feel you are best suited for. • Once decided, each person will then specialise.
  • 30. Team work • As a specialist, you will then work with your team members to produce the best public space development. • The success of your team will depend on each person being responsible for their own role & communicating with the other group members to make good decisions.

Marketing Consultant’s role Research into: • Marketing Tools • Colour use • Logo • Slogan • Business card They then needed to bring together all of their work & understanding in the form of their company website (an Edublog) As the website would be used in their company pitch, they needed to organise & store all relevant documents there, including the embedding of pdf & PowerPoint files produced by the other company members We created a Year 8 Slideshare account for this & gave students the login. Organisation of information was paramount to a good presentation.

Edublogs tip #2 Theme choice • The Theme is the appearance of your blog • There are currently 222 themes from which to choose • This is perhaps the area that warrants the most amount of time due to trial & error • It really depends on purpose of the blog • Some are simple with one column whereas others have 2 or 3 columns • Here is a link that compares the qualities of many themes on the edublogger. • Here is another from the University of Oregon Online support to help you learn & problem solve • http://help.edublogs.org/user-guide • http://www.theedublogger.com/
