2. What is sustainability and why is it
important?
o Sustainability is based on a simple principle: Everything that we
need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or
indirectly, on our natural environment. Sustainability is
important to making sure that we have and will continue to
have, the water, materials, and resources to protect human
health and our environment.
o It is important to be considering sustainability because as a
group we need to make sure that things that we do for
Wentworth Point, are not going to cause us problems in the
future. So we need to be reducing our water consumption. And
also making sure that we are preserving historical buildings
around the area so that our new designs will not effect or be
harmful in the now and in years to come.
3. How have SBC incorporated
sustainable designs principles?
SBC has incorporated sustainable designs so that our resources will
hopefully last longer than other commonly used materials. Examples
Listed Below:
Rain water Tanks- Collecting rainwater lessens consumer impact on
public resources and saves you money.
Compact Fluorescent Lights- Low energy bulbs reduce electricity
consumption and require fewer bulb changes.
Insulated Precast Panels-Insulated concrete "Thermal Panels"
provide superior thermal mass to insulated double brick and
substantially reduce construction times.
4. How have I incorporated aspects of
sustainable design?
On my building I have incorporated:
Solar panels
Water tanks
Large windows to let in natural light.
