  • 2. An autotroph is an organism that can use energy from the sun to produce food
  • 3. The use of sunlight to convert CO 2 into glucose! Equation: 6CO 2 + 6H 2 0  C 6 H 12 O 6 + 6O 2
  • 4. Reactants: Carbon dioxide and water Products: glucose and oxygen
  • 5. How it works: Plants convert energy from the sun into ATP. ATP and water are used to convert carbon dioxide into glucose
  • 6. Where it happens: Photosynthesis primarily happens within the chloroplasts of plant cells
  • 7. Photosynthesis relies on the light capturing pigment called chlorophyll Chlorophyll is contained in the stacks of thylakoid in a chloroplast
  • 8. Due to photosynthesis, plants are an important part of CO 2 and O 2 cycles in the atmosphere.
