4. Football Vocabulary
• Line of scrimmage: Where the ball is placed on the field
• End zone: Area on each end of the field where points are scored.
• Touchdown: When the ball enters the End zone it is called a touchdown,
and it is worth 6 points.
• Field Goal post: A “U” shaped structure on each end of the field where
points are scored when the ball is kicked through it.
• Field goal: When the ball is kicked through the FG post. It is worth 3 points
• Extra Point: When the ball is kicked through the FG post after a
touchdown. It is worth 1 point.
• Sack: When the QB is tackled for a loss behind the LOS with the ball.
• Fumble: When a player loses control of the ball.
• Interception: When the Defense catches a ball intended for an Offensive
player.
5. There are lots of different ways to play

11. This is a Quarterback…
• He is the Boss on the field. He tells everyone what to do in the
“huddle”. He can throw the ball, or run with the ball.
12. This is a Running back…
• Their job is to run with the ball, or catch the ball.
13. This is a Tight End….
• Their job is to block with the OL, and catch the
ball.
14. This is a Wide Reciver…
• Their job is to catch the ball.
15. This is the Offensive Line….
• Their job is to open “holes” for the Running back to run
through, or to protect the Qb so he can throw the ball.
16. This is a Safety…
• Their job is to cover Wide Receivers or help stop the Running
Back.
17. This is a Cornerback…
• Their job is to cover the Wide Receivers to make sure they
don’t catch the ball. If the CB catches it it’s called an
“interception.”
18. This is a Linebacker…
• Their job is to stop the Running back, sack the Quarterback,
or cover Wide Receivers.
19. This is the Defensive Line
• Their job is to stop the Running back, or “Sack” the
Quarterback.
