Football Vocabulary• Line of scrimmage: Where the ball is placed on the field• End zone: Area on each end of the field where points are scored.• Touchdown: When the ball enters the End zone it is called a touchdown, and it is worth 6 points.• Field Goal post: A “U” shaped structure on each end of the field where points are scored when the ball is kicked through it.• Field goal: When the ball is kicked through the FG post. It is worth 3 points• Extra Point: When the ball is kicked through the FG post after a touchdown. It is worth 1 point.• Sack: When the QB is tackled for a loss behind the LOS with the ball.• Fumble: When a player loses control of the ball.• Interception: When the Defense catches a ball intended for an Offensive player.

  8. 8. This is what an offensive play looks like…
  9. 9. This is what defensive coverage looks like…
  10. 10. This is a Quarterback…• He is the Boss on the field. He tells everyone what to do in the “huddle”. He can throw the ball, or run with the ball.
  11. 11. This is a Running back…• Their job is to run with the ball, or catch the ball.
  12. 12. This is a Tight End….• Their job is to block with the OL, and catch the ball.
  13. 13. This is a Wide Reciver…• Their job is to catch the ball.
  14. 14. This is the Offensive Line….• Their job is to open “holes” for the Running back to run through, or to protect the Qb so he can throw the ball.
  15. 15. This is a Safety…• Their job is to cover Wide Receivers or help stop the Running Back.
  16. 16. This is a Cornerback…• Their job is to cover the Wide Receivers to make sure they don’t catch the ball. If the CB catches it it’s called an “interception.”
  17. 17. This is a Linebacker…• Their job is to stop the Running back, sack the Quarterback, or cover Wide Receivers.
  18. 18. This is the Defensive Line• Their job is to stop the Running back, or “Sack” the Quarterback.
