3. 1. Corporate body and corporate name
Corporate body refers to an organization or group of
persons and/or organizations that is identified by a
particular name and that acts, or may act as a unit.
Examples include associations, institutions, non-profit
enterprises, governments, etc.
Corporate names are the names for corporate
bodies.
4. 2. Preferred name and preferred source
The preferred name is the commonly known form of
the name; The forms found in preferred sources are
assumed to be the commonly known form
The RDA glossary defines the preferred name for the
corporate body as: the name or form of name
chosen as the basis for the authorized access point
representing that body.

Refer to RDA Appendix A 2

For names with unusual capitalization, follow the
capitalization of the commonly known form

Diacritical marks: record them as they appear; add
them if it is certain that they are integral to the name

Hyphens: Retain if used by the body
Space of initials: do not add space between initials

Omit initial articles unless the name is to be accessed
under the article

Choose the name on the preferred source if

If the name appears in different languages,
choose the form in the official language of the
body as the preferred name.

earlier form with resources associated with it; and
the later form with resources associated with it.

name belongs to any type listed under RDA
11.2.2.14.

body.

In case of doubt about whether the corporate body is
subordinate or whether it falls within the scope of a
specific instruction, record the name of the body

20. RDA 11.13.1.4 -- Associated Institution
Add the name of an associated institution
if needed to distinguish one access point from
another
if the institution's name is commonly associated
with the name of the corporate body.
Optional: if the addition assists in the identification
of the body.

21. 9. Consistency in dPanther
We could search dPanther before inputting
names
If the name already existed in dPanther, it’s
better to use it unless:
It’s different from the authorized access point
It’s not recorded appropriately and you
prefer a different form of preferred name
In the above cases, the best practice is to notify
dPanther manager to update the name and
prevent duplicate names in dPanther

For important corporate bodies in your collection,
you have the option to create authority records for
them and add them to NACO Authority File
