3. Film trailers
• Used in the film industry
since the first trailer was
produced in 1914 for a Charlie
Chaplin film.
• Fowles (2011) explains that
film trailers are,
"...quite short and therefore go to the extremes
of their genre, for example, if the film was a
comedy, the editing would be fast paced, as
would the music, to amplify the tone of the
film, but if it was a horror the editing would
be slow and the shots de-saturated or dark."
5. Useful facts on trailers
• All trailers used to be made by the National Screen Service until the
late 1950s.
• Movie trailers have developed as culture has developed. Movie
trailers in the:
• 60s - free, liberal
• 80s - electronic, yuppie city
flavour, adventure and buddy
movies (ET, Die Hard, Lethal
Weapon, Beverly Hills Cop)
• 90s - CGI, animation
7. iMovie Trailers
• iMovie is Apple's own way of
supporting you in creating your
own trailers.
• It uses the video camera from
the device and you can insert
photographs and video's from
your iPad.
