IND-ENG-76476-2013
1.
2. We, the students of Centre Point School
Katol Road Nagpur saw that, a lot of
food was being thrown in and around
our school by the students and outside.
This deeply saddened us and forced us
to think that, in so many homes there
were children who slept at night without
even having a morsel of food.
3.
We all went up to our teachers and
sought to solve this problem and
discussed about the issue and thought of
working towards food wastage. As
recently the food security bill was passed
by government and looking at the
inflation of food commodities.
4.
We all sat together and discussed about
how we were going to go about the
solution. We all had various idea and we
wanted to use all of them so, we
planned our field work in such a way
that it incorporated all the good things
of all the idea that came up.
5.
. Everyone showed a lot of enthusiasm,
zeal and concern towards the cause.
After long discussions we finally came up
with the agenda.
6.
As it was rightly said by someone,
'Actions speak louder than words.' we
got up and started off with all of our
ambitious plans!
7. The first thing that we did
was going to class 1 and 2
and made them aware
of food wastage.
The students listened to us
with utmost concentration and we
hope that they follow
what we told them!
8.
We then gave them a food chart for a
week which included a lot of healthy
food.
9.
After that, we gave them a feedback
form just to know the response!
10.
Later we showed the students of
class 6 a Power Point
Presentation on food wastage
and the importance of healthy
eating habits!
11. Then, we divided ourselves into two groups and went to
leading restaurants in the city namely, Ashoka, Centre
point hotel, Haldirams to find out about left over food ,
waste management and tried to give them ideas and
solutions about distribution of leftover food .
We found out that cooked food at the end of the day is
given to staff and rest is thrown away.
12. We asked them various questions likeWhat do they do if there is any wasted food
How much food is left at the end of the
day?
What do they do with the extra food?
Which type of food is usually left (Raw or
cooked) ?
How is the left over food consumed?
The response from the restaurants was great
and they were very cooperative.
