Magazine Evaluation Nathan Billingham
My Target audience is 16 to young Adults as I fit in this range I find it easy to know how to attract them it will be easy to consume and easy to read it will have a well known logo and used around in well known shops of this age range My Target audience is in the band member on the front cover so when the reader see this they will be attracted to it and can relate to it
I have used very simple and easy to read typography that links well with my audience of low attention of teenagers who want to get to the point. But have used a very different electro mast head which will be easy to recognise. I haven't stuck to the 3 rd left hand side and focused more on the photography than the pull quotes and articles which shows the audience ‘indie’ of the magazine I have focused more on photography than typography relying on the audience to be focusing and pulled in on the imagery. Although there isn't a lot of typography the little amount I have used tells the readers what they want to know the writing on the 3 rd left is a small list of the main bands featuring in the magazine so the readers can see that and get to where they want and I have put writing on both side of the picture to spread it out and focus more on the photography.I have used other picture in a Polaroid way which is different and contrasts with the normality and the magazine and breaks the mould. In my magazine project I have challenged and conformed to many of the conventions of music magazines. I have used mast heads, pull quotes, skyline, barcodes and logos. But have challenged them by not sticking the the left 3 rd of the page and in the bottom left corner used a blurry picture of the same band in the main article. I have conformed with most of the conventions on my double page spread as this is where the reader will be focusing more and I don’t need to lure them in as much although I have kept with the general style of the magazine I have used the photography as a main part in this and have played around with some brushes in the background to keep with that urban look and the font is big and stands out so the reader knows what they are reading about. I have used the title in the right corner to recognise the reader to the logo and give it alot of originality . Challenging and conforming conventions
I have aimed my magazine to 16- to young adults. I have done this as I know what they want and the style they are looking for. I have made a survey to help me make sure this is what they want. Through out the magazine I have used typography/Photography and the atmosphere of the magazine to lure this age range in As my main article I have used a new big small band on the street to lure them into the next big thing. And also have used well known big stars in the skyline if they haven't heard of the small band yet. And the bottom I have left it open so the reader would want to find out more and am talking about sex and drugs what more could young teenagers ask for and we all love a bit of gossip I have tried to find the right setting for more pictures somewhere busy and where you would find a lot of young teenagers I have taken pictures with a lot of graffiti in the background to show the rebelliousness of the young teens Social Groups
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_xxyf9n_4E I love the typography of the title as it fits in with the mood of the magazine. I like the clearness of the writing for the features, but the bands are hard to read as they are the same colours of lights. The simplicity of the page makes the writing and meaning standout in an interesting way. The picture doesn't draw to much attention from the article, so it has a nice equal balance Again the typography of the title really fits the genre of the magazine which makes it clear to the audience what their buying. The picture again balances out the focus between the writing and the photo. The font is a good size and is clear to read Video of Feedback of Magazine Copy and Paste Link into the internet and enjoy Feedback
SurveyMonkey Around 50% of feedback say the Photography was the best 50% of the Feedback says they would find in a independent music store Around 40% of the target audience said I could change the typography as it is to simple for my style and stands out to much I made a survey before and after I made the magazine. The first survey was asking what genre to make my magazine and the biggest genre was indie and in response to make second surveys answer was indie and electro
This shows what genre to aim my magazine at and the style of my magazine and shows I chose the right genre to aim at. I did get a lot of inspiration from NME and will try and follow its lead and distribute in the same way Inspirational mood board
Distribution As NME was my main competitor I would like my magazine to be in the same place as NME but from my survey results said my magazine would be found in a Independent music store to get to my target audience. To first distribute my magazine I would distribute it online and then with Bauer first to small independent music stores and then to big up market shops like HMV and WHSmiths to be as big and a close competitor as NME.
Technology
What I Have Learnt I Have learnt to taking photos with meaning and with a lot of emotion and use lighting to do this then to be able to turn it in to a magazine which people have said it was a close competitor to NME To make a multiple choice questions to get reliable data back and turn it in to simple pie/bar graphs so my recordings is easy to read I have learnt to upload my pictures/documents online to show everyone and get feedback and opinions on my work Photoshop was the main element I used in creating my magazine I have used magnetic lasso to select a certain pack of the picture and change the effect which I have used in my magazine and my previous project the CD cover. I have used brushes a lot on my project and it is easy to use and can add a lot of emotion.
