4. Divide the parts of feed by the total parts to find the percent of each feed in the ration.
5. Use total pounds needed to determine the pounds of each feed need.
6. Check to make sure the protein number at the end fits with the number of crude protein in the middle of the square.Example:
You need 1200 lbs of a 25% crude protein (CP) hog feed. You want to mix soybean meal (50% CP) and corn (10% CP) to make your feed ration.
50% CP Soybean meal15 parts soybean meal
25% Crude Protein
10% CP Corn25 parts Corn
40 whole
37.5 % Soybean Meal 15 parts/40 whole x 100%= 37.5%
62.5% Corn25 parts/40 whole x 100%= 62.5%
450 lbs. Soybean Meal 37.5% X 1200 lbs. = 450 lbs.
750 lbs. Corn 62.5% x 1200 lbs. = 750 lbs.
Double Check
225 lbs. CP in Soybean Meal 450 lbs. x 50% CP = 225 lbs. CP
75 lbs.
