 Airtel reduced rates for new broadband customers
Bharti Airtel has reduced the rates for new broadband customers in the domestic segment by up to 30
percent, as it will not be charging any additional amount for higher speeds. All new users will pay only for
data consumption. Prior to this initiative, customers had to pay a premium for getting higher speed on
their broadband plans. Airtel will now provide the fastest possible speed available in the area on most of
its broadband plans - at about 2 Mbps. Recently, Airtel launched a free voice calling facility for all its
customers, which increased the numbers of voice calling customers on their broadband connections to
85 percent from 40 percent earlier. At present, the company has about 15.4 lakh broadband customers.
 MTS rolls out open web data plans
Sistema Shyam Teleservices (SSTL), which operates under MTS brand, launched open web data plans
starting at INR 299 in nine telecom circles, allowing its users equal access to all websites and services.
SSTL named the initiative as 'anti-zero rating plans' to provide absolute liberty to customers to surf, call
and chat freely and fairly, thereby upholding internet's ability to foster innovation, provide access to
knowledge and freedom of speech. The company has already started training and awareness
programme on the significance of net neutrality, involving more than 40,000 retailers in its nine telecom
circles
 Videocon to launch 4G services by 2015 end
Videocon Telecommunications plans to roll out 4G mobile services in some circles including Punjab,
Haryana, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, by the end of 2015. Since it intends to sell 4G plans at a price
lesser than 2G rates, the essential services have been upgraded and radios over towers will be replaced
soon. Videocon would invest about INR 550 crore to roll out the 4G services in the identified circles to be
launched on 1,800 MHz band to get high-speed connectivity. Videocon has 35 lakh subscribers in Punjab
alone and every month 2-2.5 lakh customers are added.
 Uninor awards 2G network expansion deal to Huawei
Uninor India has awarded a 2G network expansion and transformation contract worth USD 300 million
for its six operational circles to Huawei for a tenure of three years . As per the contract, Huawei will
transform around 24,000 sites of Uninor in Uttar Pradesh East, Uttar Pradesh West, Bihar (including
Jharkhand), Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra and also build its 4G networks in these circles.
Uninor currently services over 46 million subscribers using 2G technology.

 Telecom operators submit call drop report to DoT
Telecom operators have submitted a report to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on the steps
taken for reducing call drops, with details of network optimization, addition of new sites in problem
areas, transmission of drive tests, among others. DoT will examine whether the actions taken are
satisfactory or need further action. Apart from capacity addition on various sites in Delhi, Airtel has added
100 2G and 100 3G sites since last one month and installed in-building solution in the North Block.
Vodafone added 190 new sites in Delhi during June-July, 2015. Idea Cellular added 3,700 2G sites from
April-July, 2015, across the country. Other operators will also take action on the matter. The DoT is
undertaking special steps to assess the coverage and quality of service of all mobile operators in the
metro cities to judge the significance of call drop problems. DoT had informed operators to submit their
action taken report on call drops by July 31, 2015.
 Telcos to install mobile sites on government buildings
The DoT and the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) have jointly decided to permit installation of
mobile towers at government buildings under their control for reducing the problem of call drops. DoT
was pro-actively involved in allaying the worry of adverse effects on health due to EMF radiations from
mobile towers. Single window clearance would be provided for space in government lands and buildings
for mobile sites, speedy right of way clearances and ensuring 24x7 power.
 Videocon shares spectrum in MP and Haryana
Videocon Telecommunications, along with other telecom operators, plans to build capacity for offering
4G mobile internet and 2G voice call services by sharing their spectrum in Madhya Pradesh and Haryana
service areas. The Union Government’s policy allows two operators to mutually share radio-frequencies,
enables operators to effectively use the airwaves and enhance wireless band by purchasing the spectrum
at market rates or through auction.
 Bharti Airtel partners with Eros Now
Bharti Airtel has partnered with online entertainment firm, ErosNow, for the latters Wynk Movies mobile
application to further empower users to flawlessly access the best of video content on the move. Eros
Now has already gathered more than 19 million registered users worldwide.
With this partnership, users of Wynk Movies can access Eros Now's premium Bollywood content
contributing thousands of new and classic Bollywood movies, including exclusive online premieres, even
before their television premiere. Eros Now also offers a vast selection of videos, television content and its

 Reliance Jio to partner with Reliance Communications
Reliance Communications (RCOM) plans to enter into a partnership with Reliance Jio Infocomm, which
will enable RCOM to offer 4G services over the 800 MHz band across 10 circles. It will also allow Reliance
Jio to access 10 MHz of contiguous 4G bandwidth in Mumbai, UP-East, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar,
Assam, North East, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. RCOM will also get benefit as it
will gain access to Jio's 4G network in the 10 circles at virtually zero incremental capex costs. For the
spectrum sharing pact with Jio, RCOM has applied to the DoT for permission to gradually liberalise its old
800 MHz spectrum holdings in all the 10 circles that were originally assigned without auctions at
government-set prices. RCOM's spectrum liberalisation cost is fixed in the range of about INR 1,500-1,800
crore.
