Hamlet Nick Magruder English 12-5a Mrs. Rice Analytical paper March 18, 2010 William Shakespeare’s “A central plot of Hamlet concerns a search for justice.” In today’s world there are a lot of people in search for justice. Now they can’t always find justice but still try very hard. It’s kind of like in the book Hamlet. He was also in search for justice as well as today’s world. In Hamlet, was justice served through killing Claudius? In the book Hamlet by Shakespeare there are many examples shown why Hamlet was on a search for justice. He knew Claudius committed a sin. With every sin comes a consequence. Hamlet takes action in each act and shows the audience through his madness why he was on “A search for justice.” For example, Hamlet says, “You could for a need study a/ speech of some dozen or sixteen lines which I would set/down and insert in’t, could you not?” into the play Murder of Gonzaga (Hamlet II: ii, 526-528). When the play was preformed, the King Claudius stood up in sign of guilt. In reaction to him standing, the rest of the audience stands along with Claudius (Hamlet III: ii, 225). Showing Hamlet and Horatio what they were looking for. Besides act III scenes I and II the King is trying to pray while, Hamlet walks by and sees him. Instantly Hamlet draws his sword (Hamlet III: iii. 75-76). He then realizes that if he killed the king while he is praying, he then would be sent to heaven. So he says, “Up, sword, and know thou a more horrid hent” (Hamlet III: iii, 92), and walks away. Another example would be when Hamlet is sent to England. While heading there he meets an officer on the ship. He starts talking to him and asks the officer, “Would you tell me where it’s going?” (Hamlet IV: iiii, 12). The officer tells Hamlet that they’re going to attack Poland for some worthless land. Hamlet thinks to himself; there heading to attack Poland for worthless land and I’m sitting here with a death on my shoulders and not taking any actions. As a result, there are many things today that we look and try to find justice for but, sometimes it doesn’t work. In Hamlet he doesn’t really find it either, until the very end. He takes revenge but also dies as well. Hamlet concerns a search for justice and those where the examples of how he did it. Works Cited ,[object Object]
