  • HIKE OF POLLUTION IN YAMUNA
    BY MOHIT DUBEY
  • WHAT IS YAMUNA ?
Yamuna is a river which is sometimes called the Jamuna River , originating from the Yamunotri Glacier at a height 6,387 meters. On the South Western slopes of Banderpooch peaks , in the lower Himalayas , it travels a total length of 1,376 km.(855 miles) before merging with the Gangas at Triveni Sangam at Allahabad , the site for the Kumbha Mela every 12 years.
  • Nearly 57 million people depend upon the Yamuna River Water. With an annual flow of about 10000 cum. Usage of 4400 cum in irrigation , the river accounts for a more than 70 % of Delhi’s water supplies.
    USE OF IT BY US
  • She is the daughter of God Sun and sister of Yamraj , hence also known as Yami & according to popular legends , bathing in its sacred water free one from the torments of death.
    BY HINDUS MYTHOLOGY
  • Yamuna is also one of the most polluted river in the world. Especially in Delhi , the capital of India . The main reason of pollution is due to high density of population living in Delhi , which contributes 3,296 million litres per day of sewage falling into the river. Water in Yamuna remains stagnant for almost 9 months of the year.
SOME REASONS OF POLLUTION IN IT
  • TYPES OF POLLUTION
    DOMESTIC POLLUTION
    AND
    INDUSTRIAL POLLUTION
  • Sewage is discharged into the river without any treatment from the cities located along the banks of river and its tributaries. This affects aquatic life and depletes oxygen level resulting into bad odours and turbidity.
    DOMESTIC POLLUTION
  • Addissolved oxygen , temperature & pH etc. Some industrial units -22 in Haryana & 42 in Delhi & 17 in Uttar Pradesh have been identified as directly discharging and polluting the river Yamuna.
    INDUSTRIAL POLLUTION
  • IS GOI TAKING SOME STEPS ?
Yes, but not in proper manner
    like
    Yamuna K Teer
  • This section is based on the work undertaken by the “MCD”officials & government departments in improving the river Yamuna and people’s.
    YAMUNA K TEER
  • Yamuna Action Plan started in 1993 with the aim conserving the river has met with little success , despite billions being spent on it .
Government has spent nearly 500$ millions trying to clean up the river , most of it going to waste – treatment stations . Yet, pollution levels more then doubled from 1993 – 2009.
    And they continue to rise.
    AND OTHERS !!!!!!!!
  • The chemical mixed with river water are the cause for the FISH dying in the river in large numbers .
Adding to its diplorable states are the 100’s of dead fish floating on the surface of river.
    HARMFUL FOR LIVING BEINGS
“GET A BIT DAMPENED THINKING OF ENVIRONMENTAL”
  • Central Pollution Control Board declares-
The river is already in a pathentic condition in the capital is not fit for drinking even after treatment & disinfection.
    CPCB DECLARES
