  • 1. WP 6 & 7: Capacity development & Knowledge Management 1 GWP Regional Days Stockholm; 28 August 2013 Sabina Bokal, IDMP Programme Manager
  • 2. 3 main components of IDMP: 1. to support stakeholders at all levels to improve national drought monitoring and management policies (DMP) – to increase preparedness and reducing drought impacts; 2. to demonstrate concrete measures (in demonstration projects) that can be later used in drought management policies 3. to provide capacity building and knowledge transfer to water and other managers from drought affected sectors in approaching drought management in integrated manner 2
  • 3. Why Capacity building & Knowledge development in CEE? 1. Not traditionally „drought region“ 2. some countries already have or are in the process of developing DMPs: • drought related EU projects • international organizations & platforms (DMCSEE, EDO, EDC, ...) 3 to get attention of a policy level; rise awareness about severe drought conditions; (CEE IDMP act. 7.2) to share knowledge & good practices (CEE IDMP act. 7.1, 7.2)
  • 4. 4 3. Drought Management Plans (WFD) 4. From reactive to proactive approach to prepare Guidelines with stakeholders participation; bottom-up approach (act. 6.1) Interactive capacity building trainings for key actors from drought affected sectors (act. 6.2)

  • 6. • Objective: development of the Guidelines for DMPs (2.1) and coordination of the regional activities under WP1 & WP2 • Participants: CWPs, activity leaders, partners • 4 regional workshops (1st in October 2013) Act. 6.1: Workshops • Objective: to built capacity of key actors (to move from reactive to proactive approach) • Participants: from different sector (water, agriculture, etc.); national coordinators • 2 capacity building training (November 2013, May 2014 Act. 6.2: Capacity building trainings 6 WP6
  • 7. • Objective: to provide technical oversight and support to the implementation of the IDMP • Members: 2 CEE experts, WMO, EDC, JRC • Participation of the PRG at the workshops (when needed) Act. 6.3: Peer Review Group (PRG) 7
  • 8. 8 • Publication = mix of existing information (other drought projects, existing good practices, etc.) & accomplishments of IDMP (demonstration projects) • Cooperation with international „organizations“ – DMCSEE, EDC, EDO, UNECE, etc. Act. 7.1: Compendium of Good Practices • Objective: to communicate knowledge, increase awareness of the public and mobilize political and governmental authorities • Articles, news on the web site, leaflets, Policy Brief Act. 7.2: Rising awareness WP7

Recommendations, comments, ideas, ...  to have Global Training Program which is later adjusted and further developed by each region  who will organize/implement trainings? • Individual experts from the region • GWP in the region • International organizations (Cap-Net) • ...??  to exchange experiences among regions 9
